When I was about 7 or 8 my great grandmother taught me and some cousins how to build a temp shelter in the woods. The family story was when she was little her little brother 5 years old got lost and almost died because he was exposed to cold weather and kept moving instead of sitting in one spot for them to find him ! So she taught all her kids and their kids and their kids to build a shelter lol. We just found long branches and stood them leaning against a tree. Then shorter sticks laying long ways on the big sticks. Finally put all the leaves you can on all the frame crawl inside and SIT YOUR LITTLE BUTT DOWN until we find you lol! She would’ve loved to see your creation ! Before anyone asks I did teach my kids how to build it also ! After we were grown we realized that the biggest part of building the shelter was to keep us in one spot so the family could find us lol but we just thought it was fun ! Nobody ever got lost either rofl !

We are VERY lucky to live where nature is still natural. There are critters living here they learned to leave alone lol. We also have thick piney woods with pine straw is so deep it muffles sound and doesn’t leave a good trail. Yes they got a kick out of making those shelters and even competed to make the best one lol. They also learned if you look up and suddenly don’t know where you are the other teaching kicks in. Sit your little butt down and yell for help !!!!! Make your little hut and don’t keep wandering around getting more and more lost !!!!

That fact leads me to the conclusion that most of what we are seeing is partial truth (he has a lot of help with design, gathering of materials, construction, and camera work). This provides more protection from a bear than does a tent or sleeping bag does it not? Of course it does. And yet, could a bear tear through the walls? Given the frame, I would imagine the answer to be yes definitely but only with considerable effort and it would take quite some time and probably not worth it for the bear unless it was really really hungry. By the way, raising it up in the air makes it infinitely more safe and much less likely to be fucked with by anything. You're much more likely to be bitten by a snake or fire ants or army ants or scorpions or venomous spiders etc all depending upon where in the world obviously. How about wild boar? wolves? I'd much rather be in this pod than on the ground.

My words clearly can not do you, and your skillset in the woods (and probably in life in general) any justice. There is a very-very old saying...the more you know, the less you have to carry....well, although you do have some things, you clearly put these things to use on a level that is savant indeed. I'll just shut up now and take away the knowledge that there are some people in this world 🌎 whose knowledge of many things is CLEARLY beyond just functional, but rather phenomenally exceptional indeed. I haven’t seen your channel before but I clicked on it, thinking I wouldn’t watch the entire video. Then I was captivated, looking at the time left and stressing that it would end soon. What you did here is every boy’s dream! The craftsmanship involved with just natural materials (besides the wire and chain hoist), must have taken months! Incredible! The huge worthless axe added such great boyish humor to the whole thing. I laughed my ass off as you sharpened it. 😂 I couldn’t believe you actually painted the mud sphere with berries and water, but as a boy with lots of time, I probably would have done that too.😅 The whole thing was incredible to watch and it had such a fantasy element that made it fun. So very well done in every way. Just subscribed. Give your sweet pup a scratch behind the ears for me. You couldn’t have done it without him.

@@ramizinthewild , Thank you sir. I know the intent of the huge crazy axe was for entertainment purposes and not chopping wood, but that doesn’t make it “worthless” as I mentioned. As a weapon against a bear, you’ve got more reach and blade size to swing. A little hatchet by comparison, is nice for kindling but a bear would just take it away from you. So that humongous Viking-looking axe is what every boy would choose. I see the fun in your videos besides the excellent craftsmanship and can’t wait for more. Stay safe and keep that huge axe with you at all times. I guarantee nobody will mess with a guy carrying that thing.

A person could be very surprised when they learn just how creative a bear can be, given a problem that presents itself constantly and enough time. I would never really be able to relax knowing a bear is working a problem and I am ultimately involved. Bears are quite persistent, almost to the point of being OCD and that ball hanging in a tree is going to catch a bears undivided attention. The mindset being: "Oh, that looks like a big food ball. Yes, I'm sure of it, there is food in there, probably honey (imagination proceeds to run wild increasing the food obsession) and its hanging there just for me.... hmmmm and even if it is someone else's, its mine. Why else would it be hanging there?". You know that one track mind is going to obsess to the point of becoming angry and/or frustrated after the fun part wears off and the real hunger sets in. It will think of nothing else and will have convinced itself that the thing hanging in the tree is full of its favorite foods.

@MikeHensley-sc3ns10 ай бұрын
And it is hanging there… with its fav food… human de being.. yum. Haha
@CRSolarice10 ай бұрын
@@AB-kg6rk Black Bears can be very aggressive towards humans and often will not be deterred or discouraged during an attack (playing dead will also not be an effective tactic when attacked by a Black Bear). You will often read that Black Bear attacks on humans are rare. "Rare" is a relative term although one is more likely to be killed by another human, a dog or even by Bees. Nevertheless one can be attacked and killed by a Black Bear and the idea that such encounters are rare will mean very little if one finds themselves involved in such a statistical anomaly. One thing to know about Black Bear attacks is that such an encounter will likely involve food and not necessarily cubs. Black Bears are accomplished climbers and they are also coming into contact with humans more and more in their quest for food (they are learning to seek human foods from their constant interaction with humans)... Do as you will but a lack of respect for any Bear or wild animal can often lead to undesirable situations and they will likely not be easily convinced to prescribe to the same facts or opinions as you do.

The problem is it all looks very nice on video but in reality it will be a whole different ball game. Unless you are ABSOLUTELY the wilderness type tuned into survival, hunting and can ABSOLUTELY live offgrid then this is just a fantasy for 99.99% of us. A more doable thing is perhaps living in a large van/motor home/caravan. Yes not "clean" and not "organic" - but a more realistic proposition for the rest of us.
