This is just how they played in concert. They were a punk band. They didn't bother very often with musical nuance. They weren't what you'd call great musicians. They just wanted to write & play short, loud simple songs & make money doing it. They didn't care if they didn't play or sing everything perfectly. THAT was the Ramones. I greatly appreciate your honesty. To the uninitiated, their studio albums are much more accessible, & you can even notice that their songs are actually all different from each other.

I didn't like this video super well myself, and I'm a huge fan. Ramones are best experienced in a smaller venue, at night. And not really taking a personal shot at all, but in this age of young people trying to choreograph the perfect reel or tik tok, I'm not sure you guys will ever get it. Ramones are 20 songs in 40 minutes. They are jumping off your bed and trying not to hit your head on the ceiling fan lol. They are just crazy zany fun. Their 1st album came out in 1976 & their last studio album came out in 1995. They went through some stylistic changes over the years, usually in a desperate attempt to get better commercial success. They had a hard core following, but their albums & singles didn't do so great in the charts. They were known mostly for their live shows. Unfortunately, all the original members have passed away. Because of their history, it's hard to pick individual songs & say "this is the Ramones". But I'll try. Blitzkrieg Bop, 1st song from the 1st album. Teenage Lobotomy, from their 3rd album I Wanna Be Sedated, from their 4th album, the 1st album they had a change of personnel on: new drummer. Poison Heart, from their 12th studio album from 1992. This song was a decent hit in England. There's so much more to them. These are just 4 songs I think you might appreciate. Cheers!

Punk initiation: NEVER start with live punk. :D :D Live punk rock (by any band, in any era) is the definition of: ya *had to be there.* :D :D :D The Ramones were (pretty) legendary for their live shows (or at least their tour longevity), and the rule remains the same: NEVER start with live punk. :D :D If you listen to the first two or three Ramones albums (and all rock fans should), you will discover a clever, ironic, funny, brutally concise band whose back-to-basics approach inspired a generation of dudes bored with solos. I've felt that way for 35 years, and (outside of a doc or two) I *never* watch their live stuff. :D :D 30 seconds of this here might be the most I've ever watched. :D :D :D Really, some of the most important punk/post-punk bands--- Replacements, Sex Pistols, NY Dolls, Pavement--- didn't even WANT to be good live. :D :D :D

It's not a good idea to start listening to a band like the Ramones by listening to a live performance like this... 1. The Ramones revolutionized music by writing inventive, clever pop melodies (basically early British invasion type songs like early Beatles, Herman's Hermits, and Dave Clark 5), and playing them with a very heavy "Iggy and the Stooges" instrumentation... it is the instrumentation that is the same, but the melodies are actually quite different, and in fact full of variety.... so you should start by listening to the recorded songs... 2. The second thing is that this concert was not a typical venue for the Ramones, who mostly played in small clubs... it is odd to Ramones fans to even see them in daylight!! 3. I suggest you watch a band called the New Piccadillys perform a Ramones song called Judy Is A Punk the way the early Beatles would have performed it kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5jPXnt7itRggNU ... and then listen to the Ramones recording.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJ3ZiYSomdJgqNk and then listen to the Ramones perform it live... . kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHavlpeDqcuUfKM .... it's hard to hear the melodies until you have an ear trained to hear them (the way you have to educate your palate to like whiskey), but the melodies and rewards are there, and there is a reason the Ramones are called the punk Beatles and why they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility..once you know the melodies, the live performances become awesome because you can then appreciate the sheer power of the instrumentation.. 4. Here are some other songs to try, but listen to the recordings... "Swallow My Pride", "Carbona Not Glue", "Why Is It Always This Way". 5. And if you do want to try another live show, a great one is in London UK on New Year's Eve 1977 6. Hope you find this helpful.

I have a Ramones story from 1978. I was there when they opened for Black Sabbath at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino California. Punk rock was despised at the Swing; the promoters didn't know or care. When the Ramones took the stage the chants of "Fuck You" nearly drowned out the music. The Ramones played on. At about two minutes into their set, the garbage began pelting the stage. The singers hair was wet from being hit with a full cup of coke. The Ramones played on. At about six minutes into their set the empty bottles began flying. This sucked for us in front, only most of them made it. The Ramones played on. At about twelve minutes into their set the folding metal chairs began flying at the stage. One knocked over part of the drummers kit. The Ramones ran for their lives. Two things happened after that: the Ramones never played the Swing again and all the metal chairs were permanently removed. The next day in the newspaper the Ramones said: " I guess Black Sabbath fans aren't our fans". That show always puzzles me. The night before, in Long Beach, Van Halen opened. Swing would have loved that.

Steve Wozniak, cofounder of Apple intended the US Festivals, with Bill Graham's (rock promoter) participation, to encourage the 1980s to be more community-oriented and combine technology with rock music. The first was held Labor Day weekend in September 1982, and the second was less than nine months later, over Memorial Day weekend in May 1983. Day Two of the '83 festival was Heavy Metal Day. Joey Ramone had one of the most iconic voices in rock. Nobody could play guitar like Johnny. Mark and Tommy were some of the best drummers in rock. Dee Dee was a great song writer. They wrote some of the greatest songs ever and all of their albums were great even incredible. Johnny should've realized Joey's voice is what made them above all other punk bands of the time. The first 4 Ramones albums capture that band at its peak and the best live show is from London, 12-31-1977. By the time Phil Spector got finished with them they were completely drained and never recovered. But from 1975 to 1978 they were untouchable. Not the best show and the 1977 show has a 100x more energy, but its still the Ramones so enjoy it for what it is. Enjoy your channel.

Having seen the band 20 times over the years starting in 78, this is not a particularly "great" show. The Ramones needed to hit the stage late at night in a small, smoke-filled, hot club to fully achieve that sound. Outdoors? No. What was that? Woodstock? Greatest live band ever. Used to leave their shows with no hearing and drenched in sweat. Sadly, the last time I saw them they played at an amusement park in Massachusetts on the Adios Amigo Tour. Outside in the sun. They took the stage...1234!!! Mothers and kids began to run away from the stage area covering their ears. Classic Ramones til the end. The 1st time i saw them in 78 half the club in New Haven was covering their ears. Some people know brilliance, others not so much.

kkkkkk. Basically it's 3 or 4 chords at most. and from one song to another, it just changes the order of the chords. And the speed? the first show of the Ramones, the whole set lasted just over 20 minutes. even so, the purest and most perfect rock that humanity has ever produced after Chuck Berry

I'm a huge Ramones fan, and although disappointed by your review, I can definitely understand it. This was not (at all) a good way to be introduced to the band. Watch the official videos for "Sheena is a Punk Rocker" and "Rock and Roll High School" and you'll see some of their magic on display. Their studio albums are fantastic... but the thing is, when they perform them, they speed it up... a lot. So, to start with the live versions of the songs will give you the wrong first impression. Again, go for the official videos not the live ones. "I Wanna Be Sedated" and "Pet Semetary" would be two other good choices. Peace.

Just by your reaction I could tell the song you were into was I Wanna Be Sedated. Honestly, back in the early to mid 70s music was bland. The Ramones brought a high energy, to the point, no useless solos and in your face energy. If you wanna see a high energy concert watch Ramones live at the Rainbow 1977

People say they are the original punk band, I disagree Ramones were more suited to UK rockabilly. UK and US have different tastes and some bands get labeled in the wrong genre in my opinion.I went to a gig (Simple Minds) and I was bored to the point of counting lines on the wall behind them. 3 hours I'll never get back. Ramones were at least 45 mins long - It's all I have to offer you

Punk allowed mediocre and poor musicians to play. It is important for all people to experience music. But as many commentors here will state...Punk is an attitude. I will admit I had to learn to tolerate it. But it is not about advanced musicianship...I think it works better in a tight, sweaty club where everyone can slam dance and get into the angst...while ignoring the off key and off beat music...

Ramones were not really a festival rock band, they played mainly night clubs. I saw them several times and this is possibly their worst performance, technical problems etc. maybe check out Ramones in London 1978 that’s a better show. You are right about their songs all being similar in style but they were fun to dance to and gave a solid jolt of energy. I understand why some people aren’t fans. Great reaction, it great to see you 😊

first time watching your channel. you said you did not like their music, you could have fooled me the way you were reacting to it. it seemed quite the opposite. and if the Ramones didnt please your musical tastes, then they've succeeded. the Ramones never compromised their integrity just to please certain tastes. they formed a band because they got tired of all the long boring rock ballads at the time. rock and roll was dying and they wanted to bring it back from the dead. and because of this, they inspired a mass of other new bands along the way. if it werent for the Ramones, we'd be listening to Lawrence welk music by now. i've been a fan of the Ramones for over forty years now and their music will always be on top of my musical list. like your channel

When i was young i did some cover of that band (guitar) because the guys i song with are fan of Ramones. In my opinion...after 2 songs of that band, if u are not bored, u have some problem XD. I've never loved too much singing that songs. The performance in that video was quite bad honestly. So, i think your reaction it's honest and correct. U are not satisfy by that music, u are definitely similar to me, i think. Maybe i'm wrong but i don't think so. I'm waiting reaction of "real music" ;)

Back then hard rock/metal and punks didn't get along. It was a bad mix of styles. Indeed, some rude ignorant and small minded hard-core fans of Sabbath, who did not understand the music of the Ramones at that time did that. In the following years Ramones counted 2263 concerts around the world, all sold out. Ozzy was eating bats on stage at the same time. Regardless of this incident folks who listen to Black Sabbath listen to the Ramones. The truth is that in my first steps in rock I also listened to metal snobbing the Ramones and various other things. I thought I was cool and the ultimate being in rock music. When I started to understand a little better and got involved, I was thinking "what nonsense have I been listening to for so long?" and I turned it over to Rockabilly to Psychobilly, to old school Punk etc "It's like four chords and their out" ... that's funny. It sounds like "Paranoid", "Iron Man" or "Smoke on the Water" and more. Ramones didn't do something different, the just didn't have solos and 6 minutes songs cause they used to play for music fans, not for fans fo Guitar Hero.

so? Ozzie couldn't sing like Joey if he took lessons for hundred years. Sabbath music was good but heavy metal. Ramones had more mix and variety of rock pop punk.

Well, yeah, not the way to experience american punk. A big stadium. Sucked the life right out of what they represented. And this was The Ramones starting their descent. I think of punk as a "be there" happening. It was totally about energy and the drive of rebellion. You have to kind of think about what was going on when The Damned, The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Ramones all were hitting the scene... Disco and all its excess pomp. Glam rock and its swagging flip. Prog rock and the drawn out endless noodling. That was the worst of what those genres had to offer. Along came punk to punch them in their sassy blue eye shadow.... It was a return to roots. Return to what Elvis kicked the door in to do and all the floodgates of Chuck Berry, Little Richard etc came through to show: Excess, fun, jumpin up and down, sex, rockin, rollin, air punching rebelliousness. That was punk. That was The Ramones. They wanted to get back to the basics of rock n roll. You have to almost put yourself in the framework of the over serious songwriter/singer and endless serious guitar jams and drum solos of what the 70s had became musically in many ways to get why The Ramones were such a breath of fresh air. And it works best in a smaller setting because it takes over a club and a small group rather than getting the life sucked out of it with nothing to bounce off of in those huge gutless stadiums. Punk needs a small crowd to punch at. Here is a couple of their studio "hit" songs with lyrics. The fidelity is better so youll enjoy and get them more...maybe.. Their funnest song imo.. "Blitzkrieg Bop" (many bands such as The Foo Fighters and Green Day cover this song) m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqSbaINum9x9Zs0 Rockaway Beach...their only "hit"..well it made it to #66 in the states anyway heh.. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5q2nYatmZ6gnZY But getting back to what I was saying earlier.. The only way to really "get" this band totally was to see them live at that time and in a small setting. Take yourself back to a time when there was no iphones, no email. Only word of mouth about this new club. This dirty little place that was home to the outcast of the norm in music. A place where all could come and be revived by rock roots in bands like The Ramones...slide your greasey jeans on, slip on that battered leather jacket, kick your black boots into the sheet rock, rip your hair, sit on a filthy toilet and welcome to.. the CBGB club.. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/nImYfn14aLiopLM Ok, you beautiful idiots, if you dont get it from this...move on... ;)
