I don't understand how anyone can dislike a song like this. It's perfect rock'n'roll music.

I saw The Ramones on their U.K. tour, supported by Talking Heads, back in 1977. My girlfriend use to work in a local record store, and they allowed me access to the turntable, and I use to play The Ramones debut album over 'n over again to the customers, whether they liked 'em or not!

A great pop song. The Ramones were really punk Ronettes for the '70s. Their second Top 40 hit in the UK.

"Sheena of the Jungle" was played in the movie of the same name by Tanya Roberts, a very beautiful lady who was also in the James Bond movie "A View To A Kill".

You called it, Shawn! Just a quick, gritty burst of excitement and energy! Adorned with a hi-hat on the drums but not many other accoutrements, the way punk is best served.

There is an alternate universe where early Ramones songs were played on the radio and became number 1 hits, and the world became a better place.. unfortunately, in reality, radio wouldn't play Ramones songs, and they never had a number 1 hit, and the world mostly sucks. Every song on Rocket to Russia is amazing... try "Rockaway Beach", "We're A Happy Family", and "Teenage Lobotomy", to name a few

Contrary to #1 fan Riff Randall in "Rock 'n' Roll High School"'s claim this was "Number One with a bullet!" I wish!

Some stations would play them, but not nearly as many as should have.

In re genres, in the late 70s I was a jock at a college radio station when The Remones were breaking on the scene. My show came on in the early evening so I usually had with me in the studio someone from a local band that was going to be playing locally that night. I learned NOT to talk about genres on-air because the bands would take up the next 5 minutes of airtime telling me ..only me and not the listeners... what genre they WEREN'T into. This was not only counterproductive to the flow of the show, it also alienated some portion of the audience. At the time I was also a clerk at a record store where arguing about genres was more or less encouraged because it got the other customers involved and increased dwell time among the racks.

I saw The Ramones on 1978 OMG! What a concert at the Ritz in NYC.
@blitztim6416 Жыл бұрын
Their best known songs are probably ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’ and ‘Sedated’. Their songs are short and fast. In concert they played them in quick succession with a ‘One two three four!’ shouted by the bassist in between.

Saw Ramones three times and it was always a great, energetic show. Left to Right on the album cover pictured: Joey (Lead Singer), Johnny (Guitar), DeeDee (Bass) and I think, Marky (Drums). Instead of Marky, it could be Tommy, but I think it's Marky. Other goodies from Ramones: "Rockaway Beach", "The KKK Took My Baby Away". "Blitzkrieg Bop", "California Sun", "I'm A Teenage Lobotomy", "We're A Happy Family", "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment", "Cretin Hop", "Commando", "Pinhead", "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue", "She's the One" and "Rock and Roll High School".

They played all out, every night for over twenty years, then said, literally, “Adios, amigos!”, and within five years all four original members were dead. How punk rock is that? Might as well do “Judy Is a Punk”, “Suzy Is a Headbanger”, and the one you hear at every sporting event, “Blitzkrieg Bop”, which is known as the first punk rock song. P.S. if you need to clean out the garage or do some other distasteful chore, put on The Ramones’ Greatest Hits Live and turn it up. You’ll be amazed how much faster the job goes.

Great song, unfortunately it significantly hurt their career. Sheena.. was just starting to get airplay on mainstream rock stations. It looked like the Ramones finally found the breakout song they'd been looking for. Then the 60-Minutes television show did a segment on The Sex Pistols and this new punk rock thing, which included several shots of the band getting spit on by fans, and the band spitting on fans, leaving an extremely unpleasant taste in the mouths of these mainstream rock stations. Suddenly, they HATED this disgusting new punk thing and were no longer going to play Sheena is a PUNK Rocker. And that was it for the Ramones' almost breakout single.

I saw Ramones for 20 minutes in Oslo in around 81 , until I the public stormed the scene and stopped the concert . Ramones are best on studio albums as the live is too much SPEED in two meanings
@0okamino Жыл бұрын
Anyone who hasn’t seen them live might say “Only 20 minutes?” However, having seen them crank up the tempo live, I know they could fit a lot of songs into that time.
