Thanks for the nice feedback. The ramp is still working and my dogs love it. Just added a cover like an outdoor carpet which is less slippery than the foil. Have a great day!

Thanks for showing the process. I'm going to use this idea for my 9-year old Collie who has trouble with the steps now. Two steps at door to go outside but she'd benefit a great deal from the assist. Will give this a try over the weekend!

Good luck with the build and all the best for your Collie! Just one thing: think about making the side guard higher. Mine was too low even for the small terrier. The young dogs don't mind and use it daily, but the old and almost blind was struggling and almost falling.

One more thing: this year I added some kind of green outdoor carpet (not sure about the english name), because the plastic cover was a bit slippery.

I just used this as the basis for my ramp and it works swimmingly! I am adding the cross bars on top of the outdoor carpet I covered it in. Old dog (14) is getting used to it, but still not super sure about it. Young dog (9) likes it fine.

Stephen Myers thanks for the feedback. I'm happy to hear that it helps your dog. Sadly our Snoopy passed away 2 weeks ago at the age of 17. Well as a jack russel he refused to use the ramp, but both other babies love it. One to get upstairs and the other one to lay on it :D Simple build but still working and looking as seen in the video.

Nice ramp, however using a slick material to cover it , is not a good idea in my opinion. After rain will come algea and a slickness that could hurt the dog trying to walk on it. Indoor/outdoor carpet would be a better choice.

+Deborah Newman yes you are right. I plan two modifications. First to add outdoor carpet and second to make a higher side guard because my oldest dog has tremor and I don't want him to fall down sideways.

I was watching your video as I now need to make a ramp for my chihuahua, shes elderly and now having trouble with stairs. The side guard is a very good idea, with my dog losing her balance that is something I need to consider too. looking forward to the video of your modifications!!

I just have one step from the doggie door in the house to a cement slab in my backyard but my little ole doggie has trouble with it. The fact that he's mostly blind doesn't help but you showed the actual process of putting it together pretty well, so I'm going to give it a shot except that I'll be putting a low nap outdoor carpet on it. Thanks. BTW, your doggies are adorable.,

I expected that you would put cross bars like for chicken ramps, to give the dogs some traction.

+Khamomil that's a good idea too. I was thinking of using synthetic turf to give more grip. But it is still just the foil on top. The younger dogs love to run up and down without any issues. Just my old one which I built it for refuses it. I think he don't like the low side guard and doesn't feel safe on the ramp. Sometimes he starts using it accidentally because he is almost blind, but when he realize that he is on the ramp he jumps off and use the stairs.
