Surgeon here. Agree 100%. Also bleeding tends to decrease as an animal has no blood pressure!
@michaelrosa54102 жыл бұрын
100% ....when a animal is hit, and haul the mail, that heart is @ optimal heart rate,pumping the snot outta the blood. My largest contention with blood tracking is, a low exit allows more blood to escape out and not fill into the body cavity. That always helps making a better trail. A boar with it's shield,acts as a sealer and quickly moves to clot the injury in the shield,which is a defense mechanism for their fighting. So a boar hog is basically a hole sealing animal on top of you trying to make a bigger blood trail. you have certain odds against a good blood trail with a boar hog, and if your exit hole is on the high side making more blood fill the body cavity,then get pushed out. This instance here, it might be that the initial hauling ass pushed the blood out making it visible, then tailed off as the heart rate might have slowed, the animal slowed,and maybe more blood filled into the body cavity instead of out the exit hole. To Wray's point,the PLACEMENT into the proper kill zone,effeciently KILLS so the animals doesn't go far. It's got 3 good legs and 1 is a busted shoulder. 3 legs gets you less distance then 4 legs. Shot placement was money and there is the #1 blood or no blood recovery made easy.

That's the best part of the deal, doctor. Hitting the lungs is good, but sticking an arrow straight through the aorta or pulmonary trunks? The drop in blood pressure then becomes a few heartbeats.

Good explanation, Troy. I had an almost identical shot placement and blood trail on a sow while gun hunting way back in the 90's. Found her a bit farther at almost 100 yards, and when we opened her up her heart was just pulp. I think of that sow just about every time I have to follow a blood trail. Luckily she has been the only one that has made it anywhere near that far.

@brentmccreary3337 Жыл бұрын
Just a thought to add to what you are describing, If you cut the top part of the heart off as you mentioned this would greatly hinder the pigs ability to bleed out through the wounds produced by the broadhead. The heart is a big 4 chamber pump and if you remove its ability to forcibly pump blood then the animal will more or less bleed slowly internally. The initial blood was likely from the heart still pumping well, then as it stops the blood flow slows down and the trail becomes less impressive. Everything you said about the shoulder muscle inhibiting the blood from spraying out is correct, pair that with a heart not able to properly fill and forcibly pump and its easy to see why you wont get a huge blood trail yet the animal only went 50 yards.

The speed the animal is moving has total effect on blood trail. Moving Mach 10, blood trail will be sparse. Animal moves off slowly, of course blood trail will be better. Like you said, placement is imperative. Blood trail is unpredictable, how the animal leaves will give you an idea of what to expect. Like you said there are tons of variables!

I agree with your comments on how shot placement impacts blood trails, I’m of the opinion after watching your shot a number of times that the blood trail would have been more positive had the shot been 3-4 inches right, n/s was perfect. Your arrow has plenty of energy to create an exit hole had the arrow hit bone. Capital pressure would have been higher and pumped more blood slightly right on the hit. Vital V is understood. 52 yards and recovered so any comment is really splitting hairs 😂
@RanchFairy2 жыл бұрын
You’re correct!! I’m a “shot placement” guy and I missed by approximately .07 inches. If it was just a bit to the right I might have hit the left anterior descending artery or the circumflex artery of the Heart (that’s what I aim at anyway - I mean who doesn’t??). And you know THOSE ALWAYS make a blood trail!!! 😂 😆 😹 Sarcasm doesn’t come across on you tube comments and I am being VERY sarcastic!

I use the 200gn Valkyrie 3 blade broadheads on 20" bolts. They go right through Javelina and they bleed like stuck pigs. They do run fast and can go far before they run out of juice on a double lung shot. The Valkyries are a different kind of 3 blade.
@josephtreadlightly56862 жыл бұрын
I shoot the Valkyrie short Jag 210 grain. Still sharp after going through a mature deer & 15" of penetration into the ground on 🥶 MN ground. The Viking Centerpin missile system works better than I thought it would with the threads on the opposite end. ➕️ u never have to be concerned about your inserts/outserts moving when u glue them in. The AAE Max Impact glue works awesome. Very hard impact & vibration proof. I've had deer go 10 yards & fall over sideways hitting them far forward in the Vital V!
@JimWooddell2 жыл бұрын
@@josephtreadlightly5686 They are very good arrowheads! The down side is they can not be sharpened properly like conventional straight blade heads. But the recommended method is as sharp as any out there.
@josephtreadlightly56862 жыл бұрын
@@JimWooddell yeah Jim. I think they get a better edge with those 2 wheels than a straight edge Ranch Fairy head on a flat diamond surface. I hope the people that get those heads strop them afterwards which is more work than many will do. He designed it that way for the people that want sharp heads w/o completing the process. The Valkyrie is the best of both 🌎. Tough enough to break bone but they have that sleek design to go around bone & not bury but blow through the animal into the ground. I've never seen so much blood in a 30 foot by 20 foot area b4. I aim for an exit wound & I would rather hit something hard to begin with than the other way around. Very do-able to have something 100 total grains less than a Ranch Fairy Special that behaves the same way. I use to like the Bishop Holy Trinity but as a system the Valkyrie performs better.

So, I got that the shoulder was blocking and unblocking the hole/s. Was the blood not gushing out, when the hole/s was not blocked, because of decreased blood pressure?
@RanchFairy Жыл бұрын
So it's more simple than that. It is literally the tissues don't WANT to be apart, the tissues are moving around and blood pressure is decreasing every second. So what's to force it out? Unlike cutting a finger, this is internal bleeding covered by a cage (ribs) with meat in between, then meat and fat on the outside of the cage, then hair.... and the meat can move. I pondered this a long time (years) while hunting my own game animals and helping others. We had incredibly inconsistent results for "blood trails". When I started shooting the vital V and trying to kill the animals as fast as possible, THEN (secondarily) worrying about blood trails, I started having more success acquiring the critters.

Tracking skill development should be one of an archery hunter’s top priorities along with being an extremely proficient shot. I don't think there's anything wrong with your entrepreneurship or your evolution of mindset as it pertains to broadheads, their design, shape, etc. I did find it interesting though, that you didn't perform the autopsy as you have so many other times before, which leaves one to come to several conclusions as to why you didn't.
