Thanks! I think about that often, that this channel will eventually be a journal for the ranch when I’m dead and gone. If KZbin lasts that long haha. Always good to hear from you. Hope your summer hasn’t been too hot down there.

Great pictures of Star Valley and your ranch Bryan! The weather you all deal with is brutal and takes someone with strong metal to drive forward everyday! Clearly your feeding plan is working, with no refusals on the ground. Hope the temperatures get above zero soon! We all hope the new tool helps give a positive answer to the MIA cows and calves! Again great video Bryan!

We are hoping it warms up a bit too! I think we’ve got our feeding pretty well dialed in. We don’t have hardly any waste, it stinks feeding every day but it’s the best way to meter our hay use. Thanks for all your support!

Thanks for sharing. Great shots of the farm with your new drone. We’ve only been that cold one time here in West Virginia lately. I know when we ran dozers those days the fuel would gel up. Hopefully you’ll find those missing cows

Awesome drone video! Especially your maiden piloting and feeding at the same time. Saw y’all were -20 this morning (1/26). We are 30-50s for highs. Sat outside in the sun this afternoon in T-shirt without the wind. I enjoyed it. Stay safe and warm and good luck feeding.

It’s been a longer cold stretch than what I was hoping. I’m glad someone is enjoying some decent weather! So I practiced with the drone a few times before taking it feeding, I just meant that was my first time trying to fly the drone but do something else while it was flying. There’s a bit to learn with it but I’ve sure enjoyed it so far. Hope you and your family are doing great!

Amazing work to feed all the cows... assume you are moving them soon? The hay you are loading is at Randall's--you are using up inventory at that location before moving them home? Sure do hope you find those cows,, they have to be in some pretty deep snow I would think. Good Luck!! And God bless
@LuthiRanchWY7 күн бұрын
Thanks! Yes we actually moved them back to our place on Friday. I wanted to use up the hay I had bought from Randall so instead of moving all the hay up to our place we just moved the cows down there for a little over a month. I hope to find the cows too.

Hope it warms up there soon before those calves start showing up. We are 21 days away from the first calves coming. Amazing that spring water can stay open that much in those temps. Must have a pretty decent flow.

I agree with you, feeding this way eliminates most of the waste. It stinks having to feed every day but it’s the best way to save on hay.

You got any tips and tricks for what you do to get your main diesel truck to start every time? Other than plugging it in, do ya have any upgrades to deal with the cold? I’ll take this cold over wet and warm! Lambing starts for me next week, can’t imagine -40!! we only had -3, no where close to you!
@LuthiRanchWY9 күн бұрын
I don’t know how much each of these help but this it what I do. I run Stanadyne fuel treatment to try and keep fuel from gelling up, most of the fuel up here this time of year is already a winter blend. We don’t have a garage yet so I park my truck outside facing south. My truck is black so that probably helps it absorb a little warmth from the sun. That’s about it though.

Feeding cows is monotonous,it’s what we do,my cows are housed 365 I’ve personally fed them every day for the last six years,only missed twice in ten years when my brother did them.
@LuthiRanchWY9 күн бұрын
That’s crazy and quite the commitment! I’m always happy when ours are able to start grazing and we don’t have to worry about feeding them.

How long do you stay out without getting frostbite?
@LuthiRanchWY9 күн бұрын
I’ve got frost bite on my cheeks once but that was on a snowmobile and the wind found a spot between my googles and helmet to get through. Other than that I can stay out most the day and be ok as long as you are dressed for it. If we had some wind that would be a different story.
