Dude i love seeing how they just created a whole feeling that we know nostalgically as the 90s. They made it man. Things we "capture" today from back then were brand new to these boys. Ditched school once back in the day and went to my friends house who played in a garage band, I was just getting into the scene and didn’t know who Tim was I just learned about rancid but didn’t know he was the lead singer, anyways i go into his garage to start warming up my vocals and my friend introduced me to this guy Tim Armstrong who was eating a bowl of Froot Loops I had no idea who he was and thought it was odd my friend introduced him by his full name

Rancid is way too good to call a Clash tribute band, but their singer/songwriter idolizes Joe Strummer and it comes through in a lot of their music. Their musical arc is similar too: they made their name with some high-quality punk albums in quick succession, and then the music took all kinds of weird turns and incorporated all different genres together. He even mentions Strummer by name in the opening song on the first album they released after Strummer's death: "I'm dancing now to a whole different drummer, but I'll keep listening to the great Joe Strummer, 'cause through music, you can live forever."
