This one's relatively tame in the violence department compared to the other Barney killing DOS games that have made appearances so far. Looks like there's still a few more to go if the game's credits are anything to go by. I believe the "real Barneys" alludes to the targets that are waving rather than completely static.

Back when in the 90s a group of teens(?) actually attacked a Barney blimp with knives in a parade, it made national news. It might have be a false memory but I remember the news report mentioning a game similar to this. Yes, we did hate Barney. Little did we know that Minions would be a mere decade away.

I remember a Barney float being torn apart by high winds at a Macy's Day parade, though it wouldn't surprise me if teenagers destroyed one as well. The hatred for Barney bordered on psychopathic in some circles.

I remember playing a Barney Doom mod where the objective was to kill Barney. Tons of fun🎉

No, there have been several now. Purple Dinosaur Massacre and Barneysplat are two that spring to mind.
