A friend had a similar issue at the track with his K20A, it ended up being the timing chain slop. It started just the same, all good on the first few laps and after it built some heat the chain would expand a bit, the tensioner couldn't compensate and the timing for the cam sensors took a dump. At first we thought cam sensors but all tested out good. Hope you fix your issue, but check timing chain out just in case.
@XxChuyoxX8 жыл бұрын
Ap1's are also known to burn oil and running low on oil for long periods of time can cause the tensioner to go bad. They also bought the car with a lot of miles..

Happened to me, at wot. Trigger issues when I am applying full throttle. It's all about slack. Changed everything, cam crank sensor, tune was fine. A trigger scope through the ecu software showed the problem crearly. OEM ecu's by the way don't face those kind of problems. It's a problem that I see mainly in the forums not only with AEM, Megasquirt, Haltech, Motec etc.

A buddy of mine had a similar issue on a supercharged AP1 S2K running AEM Infinity, high rpm misfires. The Infinity reported cam angle errors. The cam angle sensor knocked against the pick up slightly. There was slight marring on the sensor. After spacing the sensor several millimeters, it ran flawlessly. Don't know if this will help, but good luck!

The injectors were upgraded but was the gas pump upped to handle revving that high and that much fuel? Maybe oil pump isn't pushing enough oil to the solenoid for vtec? I'dk I'm not a Honda guy but I'd check that area.

Look forward to finding out what the problem of this car is.I have a Saxo on ITB's & it started misfiring at exactly 6000 rpm. Changed ECU, coilpack, injectors, spark plugs, fuel pump/fuel filter & still no luck.People have suggested crank sensor which I'll try but think the car may have a bad Earth on it somewhere. Horrible fault to diagnose but I really hope you find a fix.I was maybe thinking of putting OBX bodies on my s2k one day but seeing this & having trouble with them myself makes me think that they are not a viable option.

You guys may have already solved the issue, but I had this exact problem on my F20C swap with an AEM Infinity. For me I had to repair the cam sensor wire (harness was damaged) and set the VR_PWM above 500RPM to 80% instead of 60%. I left the noise cancellation at whatever the base map had I believe.

Awesome, thanks for the additional feedback. We appreciate it.
@Streeter_NSX8 жыл бұрын
I know this is a long shot but on mine, I had the same break-up at 7300 rpms and it ended up being a cracked valve. I over-revved the car at a track event and cracked it but it didn't start showing issues till a few days later. It acted like an electrical issue but after replacing everything, nothing fixed it. My tuner suggested the valve being the issue after seeing a similar issue on a Z06 and sure enough, that was the problem. Like I said, it's a long shot but worth looking into down the road if you can't figure it out.
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын

Sounds like you're losing engine sync (Cam or crank angle dropping out). Check if you can do a trigger log or see if there is a Sync loss event you can log. Either that or it sounds like when you stab the throttle on the gear change you're dumping in heaps of fuel (Acceleration enrichment) after a momentary lean condition (Throttle off for gear change). Depends how you have your AE setup I suppose. I've never tuned Alpha-N before..

@PentagonPirate8 жыл бұрын
My s2000 had the same sounding issue, ended up being the harness clips for the coil packs. They would vibrate out and in and cause the misfire issue, eventually it got worse to where the car was undrivable. Guessing you guys would have found that out when swapping the coil packs so it must be something else.
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, we tracked it down to a setting on the AEM Infinity, such an easy fix at the end!!
@roberthale84078 жыл бұрын
Could it be a bad ECU? Maybe a trigger transistor for a specific coil cannot go above the frequency required for 7500 to drive the coil and drops the voltage at that point? You showed you did two + laps and then the problem showed up, how hot was the ECU? Also, does the ECU have a good ground?
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
All good questions, and we did think the same so we soft mounted the ECU (it lives in the driver's side footwell area on the fender side). We swapped the coils and that didn't help either. We've since found a fix, which you'll see in the next episode.

Hey Anders. Ya man, all the wiring checked out. We logged AFRs and they were exactly where they should be throughout the rev range with no fluctuations when the misfire happens. We're fairly certain now it's a cam position filtering feature in the AEM that needs to be sorted out. AEM sent us some info on this so we'll be testing it out next week.

@jdmcommute8 жыл бұрын
Hey guys, how did you mount the ECU? Because if you did not mount the ECU with isolators to cancel out vibration, just the harmonics of the engine going through the chassis could cause a tuning issue like that. Hondas have crazy harmonics that are known to crack welds, I would try to see if that is an issue.
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
I actually added a rubber isolator to the ECU mount figuring it could be a vibration issue. No luck, turns out it was a simple fix with timing sync filter on the AEM.

seems you needed to shift up halfway into some corners because you nearly bounced of the revlimiter. This upsets the car balance in mid corner. Have you ever tried short shifting UP before the corner? it keeps the car more balanced while rounding the corner and you can keep your right hand on the steering wheel and you foot planted on the gaspedal. about the misfires: do these occur mid corner? under high G force conditions? Maybe it is a fuel pickup problem? this could lead to lean misfiring. other possibility: crank sensors often need mesh shielding around the signal wires. If the shielding mesh is damaged any radio noise (emitted from other electric components such as the alternator) can interfere with the block signal coming from the cranksensor. It can cause the blocksignal to become distorted which could lead to misfires. Might be worth checking. Furthermore: ground connections between injectors and block, between block and body, between ecu and body and between body and battery ground terminal are super important and should be corrosion free and clean. Any bad connection can cause unwanted resistance in that specific circuit.
