Epic time guys! Glad to see you surpassed your goal and that you're not stopping there! Any PCV issues with it dumping oil into the intake manifold and blowing clouds of oil smoke? Had this happen at an autox recently and looking to upgrade to an 04-05 valve cover. if that doesn't work, it's catch can time. KPRO on an ap1 is a PITA. You'll need an 06+ valve cover, a sensor off of an RSX, and then the K-Pro...you might as well get a true standalone at that point. jm2c.

good job guys. can you guys change out the white shift knob to anything else?
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+bgfcjoe we can and we will. We find this shift knob too light, so it doesn't have as positive a feel going into gear as the stock shift knob. We'll switch it out in the next series, perhaps to something from Raceseng since we've been really impressed by their products on our FR-S.
@Ammaco329 жыл бұрын
Great series guys, own an S2000 myself and this is inspiring. Whats interesting to me is that the main focus has been to slay the Jag for under $30K but obviously a lot of money was spent on elements which maybe don't necessarily translate to lower lap times but benefit in other ways such as improved reliability etc. With the engine work resulting on a lower dyno reading would you agree that the S2000s improved laptime is soley due to suspension, proper alignment, better brakes, tyres and downforce?
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Ammaco32 it's true that a good portion of our budget went to refreshing all the worn out parts, so an owner of a fresher S2000 could certainly get to where we are now for a lot less money. And yes, I think it's fair to say that 99% of the lap time improvement is due to the items you've listed. I think you can also add the racing seat and harness to that list, since being better supported definitely allows the driver to focus more on his inputs and not worry about bracing himself in the corners. We're fairly certainly (from past experience dyno testing intakes and exhausts on S2000s) we gained power from our intake and exhaust mods, but because the baseline dyno was from the year prior and the dyno was recalibrated in the interim, the more recent test ended up being lower than anticipated. So although we don't have the dyno results to back it up, the car felt quicker on power but realistically this would have only been good for a few 10ths of a second per lap, so the vast majority of the speed comes from tires, suspension, brakes and aero (and getting all those sorted out to work together).

Awesome s2000! This car looks insanely well setup.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Dylan94 It could use a bit more suspension tuning but we have to credit the Eibach coilovers for being so well built and dampened because they really helped make this car stick and turn.
@Dylan949 жыл бұрын
+Speed Academy Looks damn near perfect based from the video. Wish Eibach made the coilovers for my car, because i'm totally sold on them from this. The s2000 is my dream car, and you guys built yours exactly how i want to build mine whenever i get one, with the splitters, hard top, gt wing, cage, etc, so this has been a really fun build to watch. Congrats on the lap time, some day i'll hopefully be able to build something similar.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Dylan94 Us too because if Eibach had so many more applications we'd love to use them on other vehicles as well! They told us that they don't want to get too spread out with a lot of coilover applications. The few that they make the spend a lot of time R&Ding and as you can see they are pure badass!
@Dylan949 жыл бұрын
Yeah, well that's commendable, although if they made a set for the ep3 civic si (I believe it's the sir in canada, the hatchback from 02-05), they would also work on the 2dr civic, 4dr civic, and acura 1.7 el. I still have some decent options though, so I'll be able to get a nice set up, just not as adjustable. Can't wait to see what you guys have next for the kickass2000.

Around Toronto Motorsports Park, Power usually doesn't make a big difference in laptimes. Congrats on breaking the 1:19's! I hope to reach that one day!
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+R Theory Motorsports our buddy Sasha from OnPoint Dyno (2x Canadian Touring Car Champion and a CSCS overall lap record holder at TMP for a few years with his crazy 350Z) thinks it takes about 40-hp to knock 1-second off your lap time at this track. There's probably some diminishing returns on that as power increases to crazier and crazier levels, but in our experience this is a good estimate on the first 100-hp increase or so.

How did you guys address the AP1's Oil Consumption issue? AP1's are well known to consume oil especially when high RPM and Fast right turn cornering.
@Roger13799 жыл бұрын
Nice work! You guys might want to do some DIY brake ducting. The front rotors are very prone to cracking from heat and the rear wheel bearings don't last long with the heat, pad life will almost double as well (tracking without any ducting I could use 50% of the pads in 1 day).
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Roger1379 good tip! We'll look into it and give our Stoptech rotors a close inspection.

nice video guys, quick question. how much do you pay to run at the track? my local track charge $300
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Cristian Guerra on a Wednesday evening like this, it's $100 and you get about 3.5 hours of track time. There was a fair bit of lapping traffic so it can be tough to get a clean lap in, but passing people in more expensive cars is half the fun of a night like this.

You guys have an awesome quiver of track cars... Would be awesome to see you guys build a drift car or even just work on the cars that we have seen but dont get much coverage like the jeep porsche rx7 and even that datsun we have seen in the garage. Overall great build. Do you think you could have achieved that lap time for 20k?
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Curry Bombs we'll have more RX7 vids coming soon, and we'll be doing a 2JZ swap into Pete's E39 wagon over the winter. Plus Dave recently picked up a '77 Celica GT that's going to get a cool engine swap and be a street legal drift machine eventually. We have some more Jeep action coming out soon too, and we'll be adding a Tundra build over the winter as well. Yes, I think we could have gone sub 1:20 for 20k by buying second-hand, skipping the hard top (but man it looks so awesome, who'd want to do that?), only doing one race seat, etc. There's definitely ways to cut costs, but we wanted to see where we'd end up cost-wise without cutting too many corners. We're super happy with the way the car's turned out so far.

@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+KoNLaRz nope, not our daily drivers. The Acura MDX you see in the background of this vid is Dave's baby-hauler/daily driver and Pete usually daily drives his E28 BMW. We did replace a lot of the S2000's interior (seats and carpet), and we've talked about replacing the dash, center console and door panels with black AP2 pieces but the blue is actually kinda growing on us. Pete did a bit of interior work on the S14 painting the R32 passenger seat black.

I have an S2000 and it wins hands down. The MX5 is fun, but slow and too soft a chassis and suspension as standard. Mightycarmods covered that nicely. Almost everything will overtake you at a track. The S2000 is pretty sorted as standard and can quickly be turned into something special.
