YASSSS ASHENSPIRE Maybe my favourite album of the year, which is always nice to be able to say about a pal's band.

after watching this video, i decided to check out Musique Concrète, and will continue to check out the rest of these recommendations. Musique Concrète was one of the most beautiful, haunting and atmospheric things i've ever heard, and i honestly don't think i would've ever found it if it wasn't for this video, so thank you. your channel's both consistently interesting and extremely insightful, keep up the great work!

This video is a few months old now, but I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring and add a few more "obscure" album recommendations to the pile. I say "obscure" because, especially compared to your picks, I don't really think I've experienced much truly obscure music. But I still wanna shed light on a few things that I don't see talked about! - The Sun is Often Out - Longpigs: Not entirely sure how obscure this one is in the grand scheme of things, but this is a really hard-hitting, relatable, and gripping britpop album that feels way way way overshadowed by its far more famous and successful 90s contemporaries. While they do have a follow up in Mobile Home, The Sun is Often Out captures raw feelings of depression, directionlessness, remorse over breakups, and more. I'd recommend giving at least the first 5 tracks a listen, which if released on their own, might've made the tightest pop rock EP of the 90s. - Heavy Black Frame - Tram: I am a massive, massive fan of the slowcore scene, and the ethereal soundscapes of bands like Low or Red House Painters. I could probably pick from a variety of slowcore acts to include in this comment, but I ended up going with Heavy Black Frame by Tram simply for embodying a lot of the elements of the genre that I enjoy. Reverberated lowkey melodies, matched with a vocalist who gives me the vibes of vocalists like Dan Bejar of Destroyer, lend for a consistently comfortable listening experience. It certainly isn't for everyone, but if you're like me and love the early work of Low or even contemporary slowcore/dreampop acts like Ruby Haunt (who in and of themselves are highly underrated and worth checking out) I'd gladly recommend it. - Sexual Death - Wynton Existing: Here's one that came out just this year! At least I think, I haven't seen this even listed anywhere other than Spotify, and know nothing about this band so apologies if I am incorrect. But this is a really solid 70s throwback with a lot of on point guitar licks that make it a consistently enjoyable time. Not gonna blow your mind, but hopefully it'll add some extra color to the selection of new albums releasing this year :)

I only just found your channel today because of the NSBM video (great vid BTW) and was absolutely ecstatic after checking out the Mashup vid (because I don't know much about mashup music beyond memes and Bill McClintock's stuff) and now this. I guess it's time to watch the Jeff Rosenstock vid because he's awesome and so is this channel

Very cool video! Love stuff like this! A few of my favorite more obscure records: The Hopesos - Bound An indie record from last year that combines elements of classic Midwest indie rock and more sample based stuff. There's a ton of passion and emotion with this record, and it tackles religion in a very interesting way. It also only comes out to 24 minutes, but it packs so much in that time that it warrants so many relistens. The Gromble - Jayus: this is just a fun synth rock record. Great pacing, fantastic interludes, and super memorable hooks. Skittles Commercial the Musical: The fact that no one remembers that this happened is a crime. An advertising stunt pulled by Skittles back in 2019, it pokes fun at musical theatre, advertisement culture, and the general distaste people have for advertising. Michael C Halls vocals are so perfectly over the top for this charming satirical work by a large company. Dirt Poor Robins - The Raven Locks acts I, II, and III A really cool set of chamber rock records, they take traditional rock instrumentation and add in horns, orchestral strings, and pianos and build this super theatrical world. The lyrics are the main sell of the record in my opinion, weaving metaphors, clever wordplay, and satisfying assonance consonance and alliteration into these great stories that all feel contained within one world.

I have listened to so many post-rock albums but Alone, Alone by Hungry Ghosts easily takes the cake for how it depicts melancholy through long poetic song titles and other stuff, though there is actually no crescendo unlike most post-rock records, but I love the tension that builds on several songs like No Prior Convictions for example. The album is split into three parts and an epilogue. That album speaks beyond emotions if you ask me.

Hey, love your video and Ashenspire is now one my playlist ;D Also, have you ever heard of Harmonium? It's a group from Québec created in the 70's and their last album out of the 3 they released will always be in my top 5. If you have a bit of time, "l'héptade" his an excellent album that had amazing instrumentals, but the tracks that does have Serj Fiori's voice are just gorgeous. The lyrics are also very poetic and interesting but they are in french. I think "chanson noire" or "comme un fou" are excellent tracks alone but the album is better for listening it from point A to B. If you already knew the album, tell me your opinion of it and I not, I highly recommend it to you ;D

All kinds of places, but consistently I've been using Rateyourmusic. Not via charts, but moreso I will find random user-made lists, oftentimes I will find stuff that has next to no ratings on there, which is where a lot of these records come in.

Getting into African political music rn so the Yvonne rec is definitely appreciated. Rn my favorite is Zombie by Fela Kuti. He makes some incredible and hypnotic afrobeat that inspired a lot of Brian Enos work with Talking Heads. Super under appreciated album.

I just saw Fela's son, Femi Kuti, in July. It's easily one of the best, most hypnotic show I've ever been to. Don't skip out if you get the opportunity.

Hey boundo I see you have a Kirby avi, is you taste in games just as out there as your taste in music or do you just play Nintendo games? (Not meaning to come off as judgemental, I'm just curious)
@itsboundo.2 жыл бұрын
Definitely not as out there as with music, I put a lot less effort into finding new games tbh, but I definitely try to play a big variety. My favorites are still pretty standard though: Celeste, Bloodborne, Silent Hill 2, Red Dead 2, Mario World, etc.
