I filmed this in 2019!! I'm in Japan now, so please don't worry!
This is a video where I'm talking about my random thoughts,
but I hope it would be your listening practice!
I think we Japanese DO work too much sometimes.
I know it because I hear it from my friends and I used to do so when I was working
for a Japanese company.
I don't necessarily think that working long hours is always efficient.
Also, I feel like Japanese people don't have enough time to spend with their family,
friends because of overworking. Visiting New Zealand and seeing how people have a better
work-life balance there made me realize the importance of knowing my own priority.
What do YOU think?? Do you live to WORK? Or do you work to LIVE?
Or do you WORK AND LIVE? haha Or do you feel IKIGAI in what you are doing?
Please commend below and let me know your thoughts!

Work in something you like make it way out easy, but even so I don't like the idea of working too much and not have time to be with family and friends. Also, a time to do some hobby is necessary. In the end I always try to find a balance between working and live.

I agree that the work-life balance is a bit off in Japan, especially for workers in some companies. One thing you didn't mention was annual leave - in New Zealand the law says it's compulsory for employees to be able to take annual leave, and it never expires (it always carries over to the next year). Sometimes businesses will ask long-term employees to go on holiday for 2-4 weeks if they build up too much leave, because building up more than 6-8 weeks of leave can be a hazard for the company, but they must obey the law. In New Zealand, taking 2-4 weeks off so that you can have a proper trip overseas is very common. This is unlike in Japan where everyone seems to feel guilty for taking more than 5 days off in a row, so any overseas trips are almost always only for 1 week! This seems crazy to me - if I travel overseas, I want to take enough time to properly explore and enjoy many new places. :) I think if the Japanese government made it a law that employees have to take all their 年休 , it might help to improve the work-life balance a little! Of course 残業 is another issue.

Sounds like the US, employers are not obligated to provide leave. Most don't but some will give you a few days after a year probation. When you do take leave it's a bad thing.

Seem to be true, and well said. Another one of the "harsh realities" I've slowly realized about Japan. Sadly, I feel like the prevalence of the zangyo "culture" might be worth it if a long vacation was awarded, but alas that is by and far not the case.

I'm really grateful that we are getting such wonderful quality listening practice material. ありがとうございます~ But sensei I would really like some more N3 level Grammar lessons, particularly about てくる/ていく and the many naunces and meaning it can convey in a sentence. I havent found any comprehensive video on this on KZbin as of yet so I'm really looking frwd to a lesson by you Sensei.
