@Katoshnik At this point, Windows is pretty much only good for gaming and a select for professional apps.... If Linux ever catches up on gaming, there'd really be no point to sticking with windows. As for *why* Windows is on most desktops and laptops, is because it's pretty much a tradition at this point. Most other operating systems died in the 90s, Apple doesn't want it's OS on anything they didn't sell, and Linux still has a bad reputation for not being user friendly, despite like a decade of innovation in that. Linux honestly isn't that bad now, but it's really still not great on game support. It's come a long way, definitely, but it's still not where it needs to be.

John S yep, my dad picked up a single core single thread Celeron mobile edition in a Tablet and with 712MB of RAM it’s enough for a smooth Puppy Linux loafed completely into the RAM (the HDD was missing and I needed the extra USB the boot up flash drive used, so after boot eject the drive) and it runs a browser pretty well for smooth web browsing. I didn’t get to try gigabit Internet on it, but thanks to the light weight browser (Midori) I was using, it was smoother than any machine running Windows and any other browser. Puppy Linux runs on almost anything, and really well! I think the only gaming I did on it was testing out some variety of those arcade spaceship shooting down aliens kind of thing and it worked flawless with no dropped frames, so it worked flawekess on some of 2007’s (or maybe even older) worst and slowest hardware (it was the slowest clocked variant of that mobile processor).

And does it have a 5 metre cable and 1.5 litre bagless dust container so you can clean for longer without having to empty it or change plugs? I expect A crevice tool is included which makes a brilliant attachment to the handheld function in order to reach smaller corners or tight spaces... Or perhaps not

I would have given an arm and a leg to have a PC like this back in the day. Those were much simpler times...

Well my laptop has a NVS 135M, which is actually half the speed of this NVS 295 here. Amazingly it still plays KZbin and such just fine with h261ify, and tbh that's all I care about on a laptop as I have a beefy desktop for games should I play one. That said the CPU is almost 3 times the speed and I have 8GB of RAM with SSD so my general usage experience is definitely far better. But for that Celeron if you have an OEM motherboard you can still BSEL it to at least 1066mhz and have an overclock that way.

Lol, those components are amazing compared to the oldest stuff I have lying around. CPU: V20 5MHz, 512kB RAM, Philips 5109 motherboard, 10 MB Seagate harddisk, Xebex 1210 MFM controller. It does run the original SimCity.
