hi, I attend a black Baptist Church in California. One Sunday a poster was on the wall that red Dexter Street Baptist Church Montgomery Alabama, celebrating 136 years.it stated that they were going to have black people who have become not just successful financially but become leaders in their field. I had a hunch that I went on, I from California I flew on Friday to Montgomery Alabama. On Sunday morning I walked into the church it had already started and the deacons unlike white churches took me all the way down to the front. In the second row all the People moved in and I sat at my end. When church service was over the pasture front of the whole crowd look at me and stated I want to share with you a minute. So he asked where are you from, my reply California.he stated and asked if I noticed I was the only white man there and sitting with 268 black people? Yes I do. He asked what brings you to this area?I replied I read a flyer back home and I got the money together to come here todaybecause I want to meet Rosa Parks and she's in a wheelchair I would like to be the person to push her around. The entire crowdbecame quiet as the pastor said well on your left sitting by you is Rosa Parks and on your right is her daughter who is a federal court judge and one of the people there to speak. A few voices yelled I wanted to push her and the crowd laughed and clapped.after we had a barbecue lunch and from there on today's I stayed with both Rosa Parks and her daughter and pushed her around in her wheelchair.do you know what I mean when I say that there are some ladies that you meet in life and they just come across like moms? Rosa is Mom. Two concerns, noticing I was the only white man there and when I got back home to the home Church and shared my weekend experience,our pastor and many of the people congratulated me and were very impressed that I did the trip out on my own and with my own money. And yet there were a few black people there that gave me a little riff.I told Miss Rosa Parks one of my favorite songs is by Sam Cooke a change is coming. Thank you for letting me share this with you have a great day at

If you treat him special or unatanable , your going to hurt his feeling . That's how most celebrities are . The want to feel normal. If you meet someone special like this , please keep this in mind . The Good Ole' Days of the CMA's, when it was really Country. Before REAL,Country Music, was murdered on Music Row.
@ferrierepc
@ferrierepc 7 жыл бұрын
I surely mean no disrespect, but I don't feel that "Music Row", whatever that might be (perhaps mainstream music?), ruined country music but simply made it more accessible to more people. As times have changed in all genre's of music, from country to pop, it is simply a part of the evolving of the arts that country also would be changed and I, for one, am glad it did. I think Dolly opened the door for many others to like and appreciate when country had to offer and others, such as Reba and Vince Gill and Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood simply followed her lead and the direction country was going. Country could not remain with only Loretta Lynn or Sandy Patty or Tammy Wynette...and please, remember that these ladies where new, too...when they appeared with their genre's of country. If you want to talk what some might consider true country music, we have to go back to music from Appalachia, Kentucky, the Blue Ridge range..and if we want to be even more specific, those who sang as they did, 150 years ago in Appalachia (songs today that are considered beautiful, and they are) sang songs in the styles that Irish and Scottish immigrants brought along with them. Music, like art, is a living thing. It evolves. One might not like every aspect of it, but it is appreciated all the same and I feel it is good and just that those who work in country and "cross over" at times, as most do, like Sugarland/Jennifer Nettles, Bruce, the Judd's, etc...that they are compensated as many pop, mainstream singers, are. They work just as hard, after all. As a kid growing up in NYC, I would have been laughed at if I said I liked country music, then Dolly came along and as she said, she was not leaving country for mainstream America, she was just bringing country along with her for the voyage. Very sage words, I feel. I like opera. A few years ago, 20 years ago, i noticed that mainstream artists were singing operatic songs in "mainstream" styles. I felt that this was good if it made young people more interested in it because, let's say, Aretha was singing it. About 10 years ago, a heard a group, EVOC, East Village Opera Company, singing all operatic songs done with a rock fusion. It was amazing. Is it for purists? No, of course not. Did it make opera more interesting to young people, it did. Hearing "Habañera" from CARMEN sung with electric guitars and lots of percussion was new and very infectious. The same has happened to Country. In one hour, one can listen to Loretta or Patsy then move on to Randy Travis then the Dixie Chicks then to Miranda...etc...! It's your choice but to denigrate how an art form evolves and to criticize what it's evolved into in one broad statement and blaming it on "music row" (yet to understand what that means) seems a bit closed minded to me. Again, perhaps you appreciate Porter Wagoner and his style of music but those 40 years older than you might say his style of music and those he had on his show were not country at all, but a blight on what they considered to be country music. It's all from what angle you're looking at it. I wish you and yours a very pleasant weekend! Pax et bonum! PS...sorry for the length of post, if you even got this far! I get carried away!

Yeah, you don't understand it. You probably just started listening to a so-called,Country Radio Station,after Michael Jackson,died. Yes, there's plenty genres of Country Music, but some of this stuff on Commercial Country Radio, Bottom Line, isn't Country. Like Dave Letterman & Paul Shaffer, had it right. They called it "bubble gum" rock music. Can't get no Air Time on any Format,but a Country Station. You need to listen to "Murder on Music Row" with George Strait & Alan Jackson, or by Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time. These New Entertainers like : Taylor Swift, parade with Def Leopard T-shirts, who are their Idols. Jerry Lee, idolized Jimmie Rodgers & Hank Sr.,. Alan Jackson,idolized George Jones,etc.,not the Beatles.

This was when Country was country and the legends were still around and the radio played their music and TNN and CMT were not owned by CBS. TNN and CMT had a larger viewership then but CBS destroyed those channels then and this song will stand the test of time.

I transferred from my ship to Naval Station, Rota Spain in 1987. This is the first Randy Travis song I heard. It describes my relationship with my best girl; my wife of 35 years. We were fortunate enough to get to see and listen to Randy Travis give a USO show in the VQ-2 hanger at Rota. Great talent. We hope and pray he gets back to 100% some day.
