It is 10.55pm 20/07/2023 nearing my 56Th Birthday next month in August I have just listened to this sweet mans voice from his 1979 hit Just when I needed You Most so I research this mans name only to find he passed away in 2004 from leukemia. How so very sad & call me a softy but now I 'am shedding tears for a man I never met nor seen him live in concert but his music touched my heart may he rest in peace.

I was fortunate to live in Nashville for a number of years and spend many an evening at the Bluebird Cafe. I saw Randy there on two occasions. He was a tremendous talent both from a song writing standpoint and a very smooth and pleasant singing voice. Randy wrote songs that provoked emotions from joy to sorrow to mellow contemplation. He held his own on stage with performers such as Vince Gill and Garth Brooks. This song he wrote in rememberence of someone close to him that passed too soon. Sadly as you noted he passed in 2004 at the age of 42. His legacy is the songs he left for us to enjoy .

I feel the same. I'm 62 & loved Just When I Needed You Most when it came out, Feb. of 1979. I was a senior in high school- Class of '79. I don't remember buying it, I don't think I had to because it was literally on the radio all.the.time.- every radio station, even the country & western ones. Back then we'd call the djay & ask him to play a song. That one was obviously one of the most requested. But then I went off to college & never heard of him again. After coming across him on KZbin recently & thinking back, it seems as though he'd fallen off the face of the earth & I don't understand why as every single song that he wrote is excellent & his voice, phenomenal. I wish now that I'd bought that record & continued to watch for his new albums as they came out. But I listen to them now & can't get enough. Very sad that he's gone. 😥

Another beautiful heartfelt song by Randy Vanwarmer. This song is on his album "Beat of Love" from 1981. The voice of an angel. Sadly gone far too soon at the age of 48 in 2004 due to leukemia.

Randy was a fabulous writer of songs that provoke emotion from sadness to introspection to joy with both profound lyrics as well as lighthearted ones. The Oak Ridge Boys took this song and made it into a feel good song with an upbeat tempo that was huge hit. I prefer Randy's version not only because he is the writer and composer but because his voice is perfect to deliver the message of the lyrics. I had the pleasure of living in Nashville for some time and seeing many great artists perform at the Blue Bird Cafe including Randy. He certainly held his own with anyone that graced that stage . Randy's passing is a real loss not only to his family and friends but also to all those that appreciate his talent. He does leave behind these great songs for us to enjoy.

This is the first time I've ever heard this. I'm sure Randy was great and he put a lot into this song, but I'll still take the Oaks' rollicking, wild version over this more serious one.

Sometimes I feel a wave of a past break in my mind And I know it's gone for good and it makes me want to cry Is this all we get to keep as the years go rolling by Just a memory for all the days gone by Oh you're always in my heart and you're often on my mind I will never let it die just as long as I'm alive Sometimes it makes me sad that we never said goodbye Well I guess it never hurts to hurt sometimes You try and hold on to the moment but time won't let you stay But for every step you take you lose something on the way You can't look forward to tomorrow and still hold on to yesterday Oh I hope that you can hear me when I'm saying Oh I guess it never hurts to hurt sometimes

Man, this really hits home for me. It's been over 40 years since I experienced my first love and I'm just now grieving that loss. We were so open with no guards or agendas, just the joy of love. Ultimately it was I who pulled away, but the pain of the loss, it doesn't matter. This experience must be common because there's so many songs about it, but this is one of the best I've heard.

Randy wrote and recorded songs that were later used by both the Oak Ridge Boys and Alabama, these songs all became #1 hits. I can't even imagine the millions he made in royalities alone, little alone off the success of his own recordings. I remember when the news broke 20 years ago that Randy had past away from Luekemia. We lost an incredible talent that was taken away too soon.

Wish I could turn back time to the days that we were both laughing and happy to talk to each other. I guess. No. I know that you finally found someone. I just can't accept that it's been a seven months since when we stopped talking to each other and nonetheless, I never stopped waiting for you to come back. I don't want to see you happy with someone else. Because it's hard for me to accept the fact that I'm continuously suffering even though we don't have any kind of relationship in the past.

Hey Friend of Foghat, I'm kind of a big fan of the band since the original early days. My younger brother (Bandmate) from here in Indianapolis is a Luthier, and he has spent 30+ year's building and repairing guitars for the Big act's of the old days and say's this. ""we know that Roger Earl, was and is still living,but sadly Dave Peverette passed away some years back. by 1990 some of the guys had left the band and (lil brother) Gregg says your guess is as good as his as to who made up the band in the early 90's ? P.S. However, one thing for sure is that former Guitarist from Wild Cherry (Play that funky music white boy ) Brian Bassett as of 2019 was holding down the fort on 6 string very well! Also make sure yourself or your Dad remembers to go back to the Savoy Brown days when you are looking for some of the old Rockers that wrote the book on Rock-n-Roll Happy Hunting guys, wish we could have been more help! Jammer894
@michaelhayes97737 жыл бұрын
It is possible your mother is correct. Lonesome Dave created a version of Foghat in 1990 which was different than the band that still called themselves Foghat. But Price was not part of it that I am aware of. But that doesn't mean that Price wasn't there on that particular night.
