Nice video! If you could try 2400 sometime that would be cool. I just bought a Lee 200 RF mold and wanted to use 2400 for pushing that bullet faster and use unique for the classic super police load.
@DummyRound3 жыл бұрын
2400 was my second choice, I might have to give it a shot! Booze And Bullets did a video using 2400 so I might have to steal his load 🇺🇸👍👊
@jamespollard16703 жыл бұрын
It would probably be fine bumping up the Unique load .
@DummyRound3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, James! I think we're going to try a bit hotter and see if we can stabilize it from the shorter barrel 👍👊🇺🇸

Can't go wrong with Unique.

It seems like a pretty great powder from my limited experiences with it so far👍👊🇺🇸

BONE CRUSHER loads! Heck, the LCR won't stabilize a bullet that's as long as the barrel! 😯🥴 But your Smith should do pretty well with a little more oomph behind it. What BHN are you casting those at? A softer compound might give a little more bite with the rifling? 183gr is the largest bullet I've tried in 38spl, and it wasn't until I bumped the loads up to 357M out of my Henry that I achieved great accuracy. Good luck with your testing 👍
@DummyRound3 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah it's probably a little too long to stabilize. These were made from range scrap and then water quenched, but I am unsure of the exact BHN. I might kick up the charge a bit and see how they shoot in the S&W. Thanks, Jerry!

Hey: I watched your videos on the 38 Special Super Police Loads, and I appreciate the level of detail you provided...thanks. I have been doing some internet research on this loading, and I find there is not a lot of data available. I am curious if you ever increased the powder charge for your snub nose revolver load to improve the grouping and stabilize the bullet? I understand that the bullet will keyhole causing a larger wound channel, but the round has to be accurate to have any practical value. Your input would be appreciated. Again, thanks for making these videos on this loading.

My particular pistol doesn't do very well over 160gr, but does fine in longer barrels at the same powder charge. In this video, I misspoke about it supposed to be tumbling as it comes out of the gun- it is supposed to tumble and penetrate upon impact with the target, rather than open and expand like a hollow point. They were intended to be able to penetrate a windshield, door, or other concealment and keep that energy moving. Hope that makes sense. It's a fun load in guns that like them👌

It's a little top heavy lol. Kinda like the 230gr 300blk subs - Bullet is longer than the case! 🇺🇸👊👍

Big Dummy.. hey I have had fantastic results out of my Smiths, great accuracy with that 200 gr bullet. Now,, I accept that everyone's mileage may vary, however,, I get stability out to 25 yards. Addressing the LCR, I would consider that to be a pistol for light jacketed bullets, because of the barrel length and maybe the twist rate. sight radius is another factor when you shoot it and the way it reacts in your hand. Good video-Dave
@DummyRound3 жыл бұрын
I'd be lying if I said I didn't watch your video, nice work! I do want to stretch them out a bit, so I might do that if I decide to load them a bit hotter. The LCR does seem to prefer the lighter bullets moving faster. I'm going to have to cast some more up here soon. Thanks for watching, Dave 🇺🇸👍👊

Maybe that sixth round was too long because it jumped the crimp. Another 1/4 turn on the crimper should fix it. You want a heavy crimp anyway on revolver rounds for better powder burn.
@DummyRound3 жыл бұрын
I thought about that as well, so I tried most of the others to see if they fit. The small variance in thickness of powder coat was enough to make half of those not allow me to fully rotate the cylinder. Seating a few thousandths deeper should give us enough clearance 👍👊🇺🇸

Have you ever tried Bullseye? It's a great powder, Ive had good luck with it especially out of the 45 ACP. a good load I like to do is 3.0-3.2 gn in 38, i'st like a cowboy load. Anyway I thought I'd give you my two cense. Tell the tactical flip tray I said HEY!!🤣🤣🤣😂

Good morning, I have not tried any Bullseye. Always hear good things about it. I will pick some up eventually to play with 👍

I'm having similar results out of my adapters, no stability, my next step is to trim brass to .38 Short to see if I can get the velocity up over 700 fps.

What bullets are you shooting in those again? I still need to check out some of those adapters one day 👊👍

@@DummyRound 148 gr. full wadcutter w/2.3 gr trailboss = 560 fps Not stable. & 125 gr. copper plated TC w/4.0 gr trailboss = 660 fps Barely stable. 4.5 gr. trailboss got worse. All the data and pics are on my website, search for "Rifled Adapters".

was it a lil 'shnappy' in the LCR ? I got the LCR for my wife, loaded mild to med, loads but she never got into it so it's up where she can access it in case of a bump in the night...might revisit and work up some warm loads for me to shoot
@DummyRound3 жыл бұрын
It's a fun little gun, easy to carry on your pocket. This isn't something I'm going to load a lot of, if any, just something to try out and see what happens. I'll probably load them a bit hotter and see if we can stabilize them out of the little guy 🇺🇸👊👍

My theory is if you are maintaining accuracy, pump that volume up.

I have a range report on these somewhere, but they didn't stabilize in my snub nose. They worked fine in 6" barrel. I should load up some more and try them in the 1894 carbine.
