I think they made about 200,000 of the top of my head.As I said I had one I loved. It was configured to take the Infra red sniperscope. So back sight was like a pistol.Excellent defence weapon if you are not bound to use non expanding bullets.

I've got an Inland M1 Carbine with an IBM barrel. It's a fantastic shooter. I've previously also owned a Universal and Auto Ordnance post war commercial productions. And honestly the Auto Ordnance, made by Kahr Arms, was actually VERY good. I only sold it after I finally got my hands on the WWII Inland.

@@thetexasgunvault I can vouch for the Auto Ordnance. But i've heard mixed things about the new "Inland Manufacturing" ones.

You are right about being accurate at 50 yards the bullets would touch then as you fired the whole mag it would open up to fist sized group

Only thing I would suggest you mention, is that actual ww2 military carbines were the most produced and 6.5 million in 3 1/2 years. New and or other manufactured after the ww2 carbine are not as collectible as the military. Just the history alone os awesome and now they are still all around the world. I've never met anybody that has shot one, not like or just fall in love with it. Good job.

I own an IBM M1. Which is special because my late father in law, as an officer carried an M1 in the Korean war. He retired as a Marine Col. Served 20 years with the FBI. Then, worked for IBM for 20 years. So it is cool to have an M1. And even cooler an IBM manufactured rifle! :)

Nowadays collecting carbines has to be a very rich persons hobby. I got one left. A build I did on a reimport IBM. Probably only the receiver is still IBM. I switched out the rare laminated IBM trigger housing for an Inland, as I thought it was ugly. The rest of the gun is selected parts including post war and the barrel installed was a Korean war surplus unused. Tack driver unlike those shot out barrels. I have had collector grade carbines including rarities but that was back in the day. I just did not have storage for a big collection of safe queens.

Can't afford an M1 Carbine so I'll have to settle for my Ruger 10/22, which looks similar. My dad carried the M1 Carbine as a Corporal in the 793rd Combat Military Police across France and into the Rhineland 1944-1945.

M1C is amazing. I had one quite a few years ago, but finally decided to sell it...I like to plink and the .30 ammo is seriously overpriced imo. It is a very capable round for the range/purpose it was created...and dependable. It would make a very solid home defense tool if the ammo had continued to be developed/updated.

We should add that at the beginning of WWII, our military brass were shocked at the speed the Germans were able to defeat the French and British through 'blitzkrieg' tactics and many French/British units were outflanked allowing German units to get behind their lines threatening artillery and other vital supporting units. The M1 Carbine was developed to better arm these units who are normally stationed far from the front line.

Very cool! One of my friends that runs a small gun shop that is an 07/02 has an M2 Carbine with the coned flash hider in the gun safe. It’s a very cool weapon to handle and admire. I may get to take it out for a spin at some point…..if we can find some ammo for it that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Yes, and not many manufacturers are willing to get the technical design package and manufacture brand new M1 carbines On top of that, the AR 15 is modular and allows for different cartridges adapted just by simply switching parts in this case and upper receiver with a new barrel and it’s even easier to remove the barrel with simple compression tools off the upper receiver. You can’t do that with the M1 car or the AK 47 rifle On top of that M1 carbine receiver design does not very well with a high-pressure rifle cartridge, usually high-pressure pistol cartridge straight wall A manufacturer is not willing to invest in an unproven design, but it’s quite willing to make legacy and one carbines I think hunting the 350 legend But with the A.R. 15 modularity they’ve already beaten to the punch to for the 350 legend The M1 carbine is a legacy shooter and some manufactures of adapted to the 9 mm cartridge

There are currently two companies that I know of making replicas / copies of M1 Carbines . They are Auto Ordnance ( they were a sub contractor making receivers for M1’s during WWII and the new , not the original Inland mfg.) I have a few USGI carbines and bought Auto Ordnance AIM150 which is the para trooper with the folding stock . One of my USGI carbines is an M1A1 Paratrooper .

I laugh at the firing demos where people shoot from the bench at 50 yards and their groups are the size of your hand. You need a new barrel. The imports were used and abused and bores shot and scrubbed. You can sometimes improve them by doing the GI recrown of the muzzle where the cleaning rods and wear wore them. Brownells makes a muzzle recrowning tool with the 30 cal insert that used to be cheapish and you can do it by hand. Not as pretty as a lathe job but does the trick.
