A great review. Ive been looking at the sport p400e around town myself, dropping the little one off at school etc. Great to know i can drive it on full electric mode 90% of the time.

Thank you for a great presentation. I remain convinced that the 2.0L engine is a poor choice for such a heavy car and hence the chatter of that uncomely noise when the battery is dry. A 4.0L supercharged petrol engine would be more befitting. Or just go all out for a 5.0L supercharged engine mated to an electric motor as an available option for those who want to enjoy both worlds.

Having just taken delivery of one I should clarify at no stage does the engine ever charge the battery even though it appears to on the display on over run and braking.

Hi there, I really enjoyed your video, I am putting together an off road compilation of the L405, and wondered if you would like to be included?

As an owner of a Range Rover P400e for just over 12 months now, I have to agree with some of the comments below. A 4 cylinder engine has no place in a premium car at this price level and it's thrashy, peaky power delivery is the most disappointing aspect of this hybrid power train. The X5, Q7 and Cayenne all have 6 cylinder engines in their hybrid models so why doesnt the Range Rover? And another disappointing aspect of the P400e power train is that, contrary to the comments in this video, once the battery is down to 0% charge, the engine does not recharge it. There may be a small element of regeneration but the battery charge remains resolutely at 0% even in Sport mode when the engine is used all the time. Let's hope that the hybrid power train in the new Range Rover released next year is better. On a more general note, why arent more hybrid power trains mated to diesel engines, at least for Europe. The only large SUV I know of with a diesel hybrid is the Merc GLE but once again its only a 4 cylinder engine. Surely the whole idea of a hybrid power is to reduce fuel consumption so fitting a diesel engine which is inherently more fuel efficient than a petrol engine has to make more sense
@amateurtorque67092 жыл бұрын
Completely agree with you, as far as I know only Mercedes are currently producing diesel hybrids. I asked my local Lexus dealership the same question, and basically Asian countries have fallen out with diesels, and as China and Japan are large markets, most manufacturers are no longer putting R and D into diesels. Has your P400 been reliable?
@mickfinn25962 жыл бұрын
@@amateurtorque6709 Yes I have to say my P400e has been reliable which has come as a bit of a shock given that it is a L-R product with even more complex tech in it than usual😀

So grateful for this comment. Just wrote a comment just asking about this. Will leave the P400E for what it is and go for the 5.0 sc.

I thought it was really cool that the vehicle was geographically aware and would run on electric in city. Great feature. So quiet and up high; a plus. Loved watching you drive around Regency Parkway. IBM used to lease a few buildings over there, and we worked in those buildings for a while.

How is the power when the battery is low/out and you only depend on the 4 cilinder engine? Do you really feel underpowered when you miss that torque and hp from the battery? I frequently drive on the Autobahn, and would be disappointed to notice that this big boy lacks power without the battery.

I would like to see a D350 Hybrid. I currently have a 2017 RR Sport SDV8 HSE Dynamic. A D350 on its own won't inspire me to change up.

A 2litre 4 cylinder engine has no place in car at this price point , hope they marry the electric motor with a 6 cylinder as some of the other brands have now move to .

They can do an all electric SUV I believe Or we start a petition
They are nice vehicles, but definitely agree they need to work toward an all-electric model. The PHEV concept is really just the worst of both gas and electric in the long run. Great video.

This video shows that PHEVs are heavily compromised vehicles. Once the juice is gone you hated the noise of the engine. The cargo area is compromised. The owner has all the maintenance costs of both an EV and an ICE. $112k sticker, I’d go with a Tesla Model X. Or maybe even a Model Y performance with cash to spare. If your use case includes regular long distance trips, with many short haul outings, a PHEV might be for you. But at the end of the day, having owned both a PHEV and a BEV, I’m all in on a BEV.

meanwhile in the real world, at 10:02 he says how he didn't even realise the engine had turned on until the car gave a message notification. Hybrids work for people who go on long trips as well as shorter ones. Even better, get a Defender p400e and you can go anywhere off road too!
