Would you consider a high mileage 3.6?
@yilmazh3127
@yilmazh3127 26 күн бұрын
@@pictlandpickers1171 Depends if the turbos have been done and documented. This is pretty much the only major pitfall of the 3.6, and unfortunately its common and expensive enough to be very cautious about buying a high mileage 3.6. Turbos can be a few grand when they go. That being said, if you buy it for less than a few grand, then I'd say go for it. You can break it for parts for a couple grand anyway so in the worst case you wouldn't lose too much.

AJ133 V8 timing chain. Enough said about that massive problem. Coolant leaks, almost like clock work. On the naturally aspirated V8 it likes to leak at the coolant inlet to the engine block, I've seen aftermarket metal alloy replacement parts instead of the OEM plastic coolant pipe. That would most likely solve that issue. Coolant bypass valve leaking, that little tiny connection on the water pump or on the inlet pipe. I've seen metal alloy pipes for that as well, but it still depends on a little plastic bit to hold the connection. I just used JB Welded around the connection point and figured if I have to replace the water pump, replacing the tiny bypass hose can be budged in as well. I would of course JB Weld the new bypass hose connection point. Otherwise those two coolant leaks can tend to happen yearly. I did forget what the blank spots in the fuse box did. But if you own a L322, it would be good to look into, since one of the blank spots in the fuse box allows the L322 to be towed in neutral. It's not in the manual either. Which is funny, kinda like the new defenders having all the hardware for opening the rear door via the key fob, just have to go into the ECU and find key fob rear door and turn it on. They are full of junk that they don't tell you. Like the hidden 753 diagnostic screen menu

I own a 06 4.2 SC. Still a very good car today even if thirsty. Reliable in my view if well maintained which means mostly preventive maintenance (all the fluids everywhere). Living in Switzerland I have two sets of tires (summer and winter) and I am currently running on Goodyear's Eagle F1 which are excellent. I also owned a late P38 Anniversary which wasn't a bad vehicle but it is still the only RR I sold. Still own my Classic 4.2 LSE though... I just love the L322 because of its design which is to me the best modern interpretation of the Classic's design. The newer ones just look to posh to me. Their realiability also scare me a lot. Excellent video! Thanks a lot!

Great vid - am a bit addicted since I got our 2012 L322 and am looking to buy an L 405 (still keeping the L322 for horse trailer and dog duties) so am off to search for your 405 buying guide. My 2005 L322 had rusted rear-wheel arches, broken waterpump, severely compromised alternator, one of the parking sensors not working, and some electrical faults leading to the gauge needles intermittently becoming paralyzed and not moving at all, while the rest of the dash works fine. All in all well within spec for a car nearing 20 years old. Damn good car though. The L322 is something else to drive and to experience, but make sure to take good care of it and treat it well. It's a machine and it's an overbuilt, overdesigned tank that is actually rather easy to work on.

I’ve had my 2011 for nearly 2 years, and I only had 1 problem with mine when the fuel pump died on me. Common problem. Other than that, I’ve been extremely happy with the vehicle. Air conditioner is so cold it’s crazy. I did have the timing chains replaced as preventative maintenance at 95k km. Would I recommend this vehicle? No, because I’ve heard the stories and know what can go wrong real fast. I think my vehicle seems to be an exception to the average person’s experience with this model Range Rover.

The 4.2 supercharged hasn’t had any known gearbox issues, a few put on a smaller supercharger pulley with a remap to increase engine power but the torque rating on the gearbox can still (just about) manage it. Many thanks for watching and noting the effort put into this one 👍

If one uses the pre inspection companies, would it help to assuage one’s fears? Very detailed and concise information as always.
@themilesdriven
@themilesdriven 11 ай бұрын
The short answer is yes and a PPI can help in given an indication of what you may expect (for example if the brakes will need changing soon ect). The trouble is not all PPI's are equal, I've met some people that were incredibly knowledgable and go into great detail, others do little more than the pre-inspection a dealer does before putting a used car in their showroom. Either way a PPI is a useful tool and very useful when buying privately, but finding a reputable company to do it, especially if they offer some form of guarantee is a bonus 👍

It's been a while since I was selling cars so I wouldn't like to give any names but a first positive sign to look for is one that offers more than just a 128 point (or variation thereof) check, as most reputable dealers do this anyway and it's really just checking the car is safe (brakes, basic suspension check, engine oil isn't leaking ect) rather than looking a faulty electrical connection on the drivers seat heater ect that can cost a lot to repair but aren't dangerous 👍

Anyways great video, extremely well researched and put together, you deserve way more views! Plus I really like your calm demeanor. Although you have to be somewhat of a nutcase to own one of these 😆 Cheers from Germany!

Thank you! and yes leave this one with me as I had to compile this video on a completely separate hard drive so I'll check that in the new year when I'm back at my desk. From memory the snatch rating is an R+D claim that Land Rover were careful not to officially state as there is no set test, unlike , for example, tow rating, but as long as the hard drive hasn't already been overwritten for new projects I'll see if I have a link 👍 Also you may already know this from rebuilding TDV8's, but TOPIX can be a useful resource for these cars 👍

@ I still have it. It’s seen a few more issues, power steering leak, sunroof won’t close without pulling the wind guard down, air conditioning door failed, clear coat peeling on the panel above the rear glass. Do I intend on selling it? Maybe so, it has 100K on the clock and I don’t see holding onto it forever. Looking to see the market turn in my favor, the value of this model is increasing in the last 6 months as it is considered a modern classic, but in the end, it’s still unreliable and expensive to maintain. Outside of major work, I’ve been able to do most repairs, and the used part market is plentiful as there are a many, many junked L322’s

Hi there, most systems will require the VIN number as that is all that is known upon vehicle manufacture, although ii is probably worth running an HPI check, there are several websites that provide this for a cost, and if buying the U.K. you can enter the registration on the online MOT history checker at the .gov website and it will give you all of its past MOT pass/failure information for free, hope this helps 👍

Aftermarket parts are plentiful? LoL plentiful/ non-existent, same thing. Besides older L322s having facelift kits. The 2010-2012 L322s aftermarket is an upgraded little larger navigation screen, a touch screen replacement for the HVAC control panel. On the outside there's grills & side vents along halo headlight inserts (no shop will do it for you cause of the cost of a headlight). I've seen some Defender style headlights for the L322 lately. That's about it. No joke. Bull bars, A-bars, brush bars, steel bumpers, tail lights. Nope. Older L322 have an A-Bar option and winch. But that ended for the last years.
