Christian methodically takes down attackers on a farm, using precision and skill in a high-stakes battle that reveals his lethal expertise
ABOUT THE ACCOUNTANT
Christian Wolff (Affleck) is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise.

I don't remember, because it's been a long time since I saw this, but given his age, it's possible he (the character) served during Vietnam. If he was infantry, he would have combat training, and that doesn't leave you. Muscle memory is extremely powerful. And the thing to remember about WWII, Korea, Vietnam vets, even though they're in their 80's and 90's now, and they can barely move, there was a time, when they were more bad ass than you'll ever be. (That's a general "you'll", not a knock on you, specifically.)

He's a farmer - you'd be surprised how strong the average farmer can be after spending his lifetime working at the fields. Secondly, the man had motivation - protect his wife. In comparison, the thug was in escape mode - he was scared, having just been significantly traumatized by seeing his partner get sniped to death. Adding to his panic were the sniper rounds on the getaway car and the unexpected interference of his supposed hostage. Jokes aside, yeah, the farmer did conduct himself fairly well for someone leading a tame lifestyle. But had the Accountant not been fast in running up to the car and waylaying the thug, I fear the he'd have been shot.

This movie surprised me with how good it was. The foreshadowing in this scene alone was brilliant. Normally he goes to that farm to practice with that massive rifle because he does the taxes for the couple who live there and ensure they get to keep their farm. The melons are his preferred targets, and he always draws unhappy faces on each one before annihilating them. He'd already figured out what was going on in the house in this scene and drawn all three melons with smiley faces instead because they are not going to be the targets today.

Part of what made the original so good was the reveals: at least three times there was a moment of "oh he/she is THAT person!" I wonder if that kind of gimmick can work again now that so much of the character's backstory is now known.

Very good movie. I liked, well, many scenes, but the smart use of weaponizing a toilet lid was great. Or, how about the long distance dropping of a bad guy who was holding a gun to an innocent friends head. Good stuff.
