Rangers Gone Bad! - Mighty Morphin Zyurangers (Episode 27)

Mighty Morphin Zyurangers returns with two of its most memorable messages: pollution is bad, and Rangers are bad! To be clear, pollution is always bad, but Rangers are only bad when we want to shake things up and get into some wacky hijinks. They're not always bad. I just want to be clear about that.

About the secret identity thing, I always found it interesting that Rita (and later Zedd) know the Rangers' identities. You'd think they'd consider using that against them. Like "stay out of our way or we'll tell the world who you all are." The purpose of a secret identity is so that your enemies don't know who you are and therefore won't go after your loved ones. So what's to stop the villains here? I actually wish there was a Ranger/Sentai series where that was done like episode 1. Then it cuts to a year later and we see how fame has affected the team.

I mean the thing that generally stops the MMPR villains that they don't have human forms. (outside of the end of In Space) so they can't get that message out. Also the secret identity thing is definitely because they're high schoolers. The first rangers to reveal their identity are the adult "In Space" team. So I took it as them protecting their families from Earth criminals.

Bulk and Skull perhaps had the best moments in these last few episodes before the finale considering they didn't know if the Power Rangers series was going to continue beyond the original Zyuranger footage.

The Power Rangers versions are such unapologetically old school kids action show vibes, just hearing them summarized makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Good times. The zyurangers indirectly beating the snot out of a kid is also kind of funny considering the usual use of children lol

"Pasta la pizza, baby." is officially the worst line of dialogue I have ever heard. It's not even so bad it's funny, it's just painful. Credit to David Yost for being able to say that without cringing his eyes out of their sockets. I don't believe in God, but hearing dialogue like that, I'm thinking of praying to him to cleanse my soul.

16:56 Fun fact: Bulk's favorite cartoon he watches in detention is Bob in a Bottle, Saban's dub of the 1969 anime Hakushon Daimaō which has only recently begun to resurface. It was used in Masked Rider too.

You'd think that a country such as Japan, that places heavy fines on people that don't sort their trash properly, would be better at telling a Green Aesop. You'd also think it would be pretty obvious that the Zyurangers needed to cut off Dora Unicorn's horn, considering both the horn's importance in unicorn lore and how the camera emphasizes it glowing every time the kid gets hurt, but I guess the Zyurangers had the intelligence of the Megaforce Rangers in this episode.

​@@Pleinair92Usually object permanence in film and television mean that if the audience sees it, the characters see it barring circumstances where that obviously wouldn't be possible (not in the same room, characters are blind, etc). The fact that the Rangers would obviously have to be looking at the unicorn in order to attack it means they definitely would've seen the horn glow.

Captain Planet and Widget the World Watcher already gave me those same vibes and they were shows where environmentalism was all about the entire show itself. So while some might find it nice to see Power Rangers do the entire environmental awareness thing, for me as a kid it felt like a little too much preaching in a series that was more concerned about what others think instead of focusing on what the fans really enjoyed about the series. So in my personal view, I would have to say Zyuranger's episode while the message is weaker in comparison, does bring up strong realities as you grow up and realize there are some things in the environment you can't control, and that you can only do what you can in your own back yard.

Those Rangers have been devastating the small town they swore to protect. Alpha 5: Now now, sir! You see, those "Rangers" are actually evil clones created by an evil sorceress named Rita Repulsa. Skull: So what if they are? How is that going to calm us down? Alpha 5: I can see that you all are still angry. But, my master and I have a solution for your rioty nature. (He walks to the side, revealing a cooler filled with punch and lemonade.) Fruit punch and lemonade. My master's grandmother's old recipe. Skull: *sighs* Well, I am thirsty. Bulk: You know what? In this humid weather, I am too. In fact, we all deserve a drink to cool ourselves down. (Everyone in the crowd seems to agree, and they all have a nice drink, calming their anger over the fake rangers.) (This is just something I made for fun as what could've been. But, it is true that people did riot in the White House at the end of John Quincy Adams' term as President, and how they used fruit punch to calm the rioters. Would've been pretty hillarious to see it in Power Rangers.)

If there was ever a Recap Episode in Power Rangers, they may as well have the Villain Generals all sit down in a Cinema and go through their past defeats to try and find the Rangers secret weakness. Just like how the Big Cheese, Jerry Atric, Bad Bird and the entire Ninja Crows did in Samurai Pizza Cats. Something special before the big finale episodes.

So I have fond memories of "A Bad Reflection On You", as I had it on a VHS tape, along with both parts of Doomsday. I do vaguely remember watching it at my nana's house the day it aired, but the VHS is more memorable to me, somehow lol As we approach the end of this series, I do have to point out that for me, at least, many of these episodes felt much more epic as a kid. This being one of them. For some reason, my memory had built this up as being an epic clash between the Rangers and their duplicates, but in reality, it was pretty standard when I rewatched during the early days of KZbin, at the age of 21. But the stuff with the teens in detention with Bulk and Skull is good character work, especially Zack tricking Bulk and Skull. I can't believe we're at the end, though! I'm in favor of a two-parter for the finale, if you can come up with enough material to fill two parts. A lot was condensed to make Doomsday just two episodes long and there are aspects of Zyuranger that I really want to hear you talk about at length. Ultimately, it's up to you, but that's just my two cents.

I do wonder about their doomsday being longer or different. In Zyuranger you had human ranger fights against goldar/scoprina/putties, the morphed fight against Bandoras son kai that they never used and his character as a whole even though they were initially planning to. Plus the omission of sealing rita and her minions up at the end, also part of inital plans. If they tried to expand the scope of the multiparter it could have been longer, but they had a 40 episode order so I guess they couldn't have made it longer. And the whole infiltration of bandoras magic realm to retrieve the zords instead of saying they just recharged in their returned hiding places. 😅

That 2017 Power Rangers film sucked which is a shame because I thought it was going to bring in a new appreciation for the show and take it beyond this recycling footage stick. Also, if it was any other Sentai or superhero team, the J.L.A, or even U.G.M from Ultraman 80, they would find out what was happening immediately and plan for it. Also It's pronounced symbiotic, not sympathetic.
