Imo the emotion system is a flop as well. It was advertised as this huge thing that drastically changes gameplay when The Sims 4 first released, but it just ended up being bland and boring. It's way too easily manipulated by using items, and the only thing you get out of them are some special animations and a tendency to use certain interactions, instead of actual meaningful gameplay.

You're totally right. Imagine your sim being angry and their actual animations change. And they get a ton of whims that dont go away like 'get into a fight!' 'scream at sim' and your sim if left unattended with free will start acting autonomously towards whoever's is around or whatever made them made. Ugh I'd live for that. I miss sims 2

Yeah it has a drastic effect on gameplay, like when my sim's partner dies and 10 minutes later she's feeling happy because she had a nice meal and the room is decorated 😩

Oh, but they do impact gameplay for example when your sim's tense moodlet bugs out and never goes away even with cheats or moodlet solvers, then you're royally screwed

True dat. I swear, the moodlets in the Sims 3 did a better job than the emotion system, and they weren't even emotions. It was just a scale of if you were in a good mood or a shit mood.

I think the issue is that they added the emotion system but also got rid of all Sim personality on top of it.. Sims 1 and 2 had stats you filled out like rating how neat they are, how outgoing, etc. Which gave each sim different personality and even played differently. Sims 2 also had the turn-ons and turn-offs which added to their personality. Sims 3 then had 5 different traits you pick for your sim which could be positive or negative and really made your Sims have personality.. Sims 4 got rid of ALL of that and just put in emotions. Which at first was great actually, but over time they added so many things that can manipulate the mood that it's just stupid. Like someone mentioned, your Sim's spouse can die right in front of their eyes and moments later be happy because they're in a well-decorated space. On top of that the 3 traits you pick on Sims 4 never seem to do a whole lot.. Some things don't even make sense honestly like a slob can pee in the shower.. why ONLY slobs? The insane trait (now renamed to Erratic) is probably the most fun to play with.. your sim will take like hours to cook and eat because they're literally talking to their food. I feel like the best Sims is still 3 because of the open world, personality in the sims, and just generally having A LOT of content. Sims 3 is pretty much a true sandbox. Sims 4 I feel is mostly good for building.. the graphics are great and the building functionality is absolutely amazing. Gameplay though is just horrible. We need personality, memories, etc..

I'd make my teenagers go out at night and try to befriend unicorns and I'd queue up the interactions and wait on the map and immediately go home when I saw a police car, and then once the police car reached the station cause my sim wasn't breaking curfew anymore I'd send them back out to do it again.

The real mistake was putting aliens in Get To Work instead of StrangerVille. Even if they didn't want to do anything with Bella, as she was already living in her mansion with her family, they should've replaced plants with aliens and also give them this whole perk/skills system that spellcasters and vampires have. It would make the pack worth buying.

I think it would’ve been cool if they’d added Alexander (the one from TS2 as a young adult) in Strangerville. It’s already suggested that he time traveled into TS3 to warn her about what was going to happen to her. They could’ve turned him into a Dr. Who-esque character, a time traveler/dimension hopper who’s trying to find his mother. (And, since they didn’t do that, I’m gonna turn it into a fanfic.)

Her fears stem from the fact that trans women are biological men, and to her, men are predatory and would rape any women they see if they're allowed in women's spaces. That is sexism, the average man isn't someone who wants to assault women. That and the fact she cited a study ruthlessly criticised for its methodology carried out by a transphobic person. Is feminism not about understanding the social struggles that come with being a women and understanding system injustice, which affects all women, even transwomen? Why should they therefore be excluded from the feminism Rowling advocates for and be excluded from spaces where they are by all measures more safe? I highly doubt a cisgender men would appreciate having transwomen in male only spaces. Feminism isn't about essentialising men into biological predators and women into their genitals

I think we should have an expansion pack called “parallel universe” where sims 4 finishes all the timelines it ditched at sims 3 like explaining what happened to Bella goth etc. I dunno like maybe it could be kinda like realm of magic where you have to find a portal to unlock a new world and then go and you could have a new aspiration that would be “solve the timelines” and you have to figure them out like as I said before the Bella goth thing. I must say it is so refreshing to see a longtime fan of the series because I too started playing the sims in 2000 and Plumbella just Gets It. Like, all of the reasons I hate TS4, all of the reasons I miss TS3 and TS1, and all of the reasons why I only play TS2 now (I know that TS3 is her favorite edition but she still loves TS2 and for me its inverted). I'm happy she's found her own ways to enjoy TS4 but I just cannot for the life of me enjoy the game but I enjoy playing vicariously through her ♥️

This may not be the place but thank you for being outspoken about rejecting JK's comments and not being silent. The Louisiana purchase was America's purchase of much of Midwest America from France in 1803 for ~15M dollars, which was very cheap at the time. Although France had legal ownership, most of the land was inhabited only by native Americans. This was a very valuable purchase especially because of the New Orleans port on the Mississippi River, which is why Thomas Jefferson pushed so hard to buy it from Napoleon. This purchase nearly doubled the size of the US. This is a fun look at them. I just remembered why that hashtag was funny a moment before you said it. Glad my brain can still pull things out for me (took me a minute to remember the word ‘driveway the other day, like at least 30 seconds). Left-field in terms of relevance maybe, but I loved the Sims 2 packs with Ikea and H&M stuff, and the teen stuff too, great everyday clothes (loved the dress with tights and a stripy top, at least that’s how I remember it now) and cheap bedside tables. Been playing them as long as you (but was 19 in 2000) though I’ve left 4 for a while, you pointing out how the gameplay is different helped me realise why it’s not as engaging as 2 or 3, I was so happy for 2’s 3Dness back then too, it was incredible after 1.
