As a Spaniard, I'd go for Guardiola. I'm not sure England's opportunities will come if it isn't now really. When he leaves City this year, either he'll take a national job right away or one year after. I'd count that if England get a coach now he'll make it at least until 2028. By that time Pep will have found a national job, Brazil or Portugal for example. And after that, he has stated that he wants to return to Barcelona at some position other than coach (maybe president), so it's not like he wants to be a coach forever. I think getting him while most english players suit his style of play because of his influence in English football is the best move. In the meanwhile, get an interim for this year.

Perhaps we should adopt the German FA approach and have a team manager ie Rudi Voller and a team coach ie Julian Nagelsmann. You could then go with someone relatively inexperienced but from with the FA coaching system eg Carsley and have a more experienced manager of the project ie longer term planning, media etc. The strongest candidate for that role would be…Gareth Southgate. Why through away all his experience and start from scratch? He has been at the FA along time and yet is only 53 and could still play an important role.

Mancini wasn't the manager for the Italy side that failed to qualify for 2018, he took over from Ventura. He was fantastic, rebuilding the confidence prior to the Euro's and during, you know we'd win most games due to his ethos. Hence the 38 game winning streak. Tactically superb. It was behind the scenes things and resting on laurels & trust that led to 2022's failure...

I still think you ask Pep, he is very likely to say no but maybe just maybe appeal to his ego, the ultimate challenge in world football (that is still realistically possible), get England to finally win something. Added in he won't manage Spain because of the Catalan thing, there is some crumbs of hope. I think ultimately it will be Carsely, it is the same route done before with Southgate, they have just watched Spain win the Euros with a manager who followed a similar route and unlike Southgate he plays a much more attacking progressive style, so it's unlikely it would take long for him to win over the inevitable doubters.

I disagree that Klopp has more to prove on club level, being the best manager in modern history for 3 different clubs. «I think he will take a year off» is also not an expert take, it’s a known fact. Klopp probably won’t manage for atleast another year or two. I see him observing the Germany job post WC 26’. Also: Klopp does not feel like a Real Madrid manager. Not at all. Values could not match up worse. Klopp has openly spoken about not being driven by success, but by relationships. The Madridstas won’t hesitate to boo out their club Legends; winning trophies is the only thing that matters for them.

Dougie that is a shocking opinion on klopp and Madrid. He would never go there and he is much more likely to manage internationally or not at all. He might not have won loads of trophies like pep but he has proven more than enough at club level

If there is one place Klopp would never go apart from Bayern then it must be Real Madrid. That idea is absolutely horrendous. I mean, it is not hard to get Klopps ideas and what he needs from club point of view.

For someone like eddie howe if he came in and did well, I feel like he has a major opportunity to prove he can manage world class talent. Let's be real, he may never get that opportunity (although he arguably deserves it)

Howe's not going anywhere, made it clear he wants to stay at 'Castle, it's gonna be Potter, Dyche or Carsley as an interim boss I'd throw in Michael Carrick as a wildcard

Carrick makes loads of sense IMO. I don't think it can be under valued how much being an experienced England international must help with being the manager. Even someone like Lampard or Gerrard might not be the best coaches, but at least they have that insight of being in that England pressure cooker as well. (Probably prefer Howe if it's an Englishman though... My dream is we pay all the money and get Guardiola 😂)

Boro fan here, Carricks only recently signed a 3 year deal so would be surprised if he was to go so suddenly.

Potter would be perfect for the role. Brings all the same positives as Southgate albeit better tactically and has no favourites (least for now)

My shout is Lee Carsley to come in as caretaker manager until xmas, by which time hell eother get the job permanently cuz he's doing great, or will move for Eddie Howe or Jurgen Klopp.

A year ago you would have said no chance Eddie Howe takes the England job. But this is arguably the best move for him now: -ashworth leaving makes Newcastle feel less well run -Staveley leaving, she was a HUGE fan of Eddie howe and you felt his job would never have been under pressure as long as she was there but now if they have a similar season to last, even with injuries, maybe he gets the sack -PSR is of course very challenging right now for Newcastle I think this is the perfect time for him to take this job.

The reason Poch got the boot was because he really didn't develop tactics much, he just played chaos football. It took him forever and then some to stop using Cucu as an attacking fullback, it took him forever to stop using an injured Enzo and find a better option, and he never did manage to make the defense work, in part because his team structure was often all over the place. And he never did figure out the set piece defending either. I'm not sure he'd win anything with the English national team but it sure would be entertaining all the way. And Potter? I feel he's the light version of Nagelsman, a bit like if you poured a pint into a bucket of water. Some good theoretical ideas but too wishy-washy to really make it stick under pressure. Failed spectacularly to make an impact at Chelsea.
