The Spain team of 08 - 12: Casillas, Ramos, Puyol, Pique, Xavi, Iniesta, Silva, Alonso, Fabregas, Villa...that was an insanely talented team. This team has two great wingers and one solid midfielder. I agree this Spain Team is not great as the 08-12 Team. However, people have to remember that Spain is rebuilding. This Team has a great mix of Youth and experience. This Team was missing Gavi, Pedri got injured in the Germany game and possibly was a blessing in disguise to have Olmo come in. Also this Team has many other upcoming brilliant young players such as Cubarsi, Fati (if he can stay fit and get back to his full potential), Balde, Alberto and Pablo to name a few. It's not just coaching it's football culture. Spanish players are way more technical than English players, not just barça players EVERYONE, Real Sociedad had more players in the Spanish team than any other club and they were way more technical than the English ones, the 5th best Spanish midfielder washes any English midfielder in terms of technic bc that's how Spain understands football, that's their football cultural identity. English players don't have a cultural identity around football either they are couched by foreign managers or they play in foreign leagues when they get together they have no common way of understanding the game. You don't have to necessarily be technical but you need a cultural identity so all your players can understand football the same way. Italy has that, Germany has that, Spain has that.

I like this Spain team, they remind me in a way of the Spain Euro 2008 team. They weren’t favourites going into it but they were a breath of fresh air and at the beginning of their dominant streak in world football. I think Spain could be the favourites for the WC in two years. I remember when they were labelled the perennial underachievers of international football, England are becoming that now.

I'm sorry but even as an England fan who wanted England to win I can understand that Spain were another level. The movement the passing and the teamwork. They made up for the shortcomings defensively by being there for each other with last ditch tackles. Honestly this team was head and shoulders above the rest. And we need to understand that they were a well functioning highly dangerous unit. I've watched all their games this tournament and knew it was either gonna be Spain or Germany that were gonna win this thing

They fully deserved the win, it's just the fact England could've tried to go after the game and not sit back after scoring or on a 0-0, like we might be able to score 2-3 past these teams with our talented front line and we might also leak more goals but so be it. Southgate defenders want constructive criticism and not just negativity. So there you go. 1. Over the course of the entire tournament, England played(along with France) the worst football which is on the manager who relies on moments of individual brilliance to carry him through. 2. Getting to the final is not Southgate's achievement. He had nothing to do with it. Bellingham, Saka, Watkins and Pickford did. 3. Palmer and Gordon rotting on the bench. 4. Southgate failed to solve England's left flank problem. Didn't call up a left footed full back and shoved Foden in his less preferred position instead of Gordon. I honestly think even Chilwell and Gordon on the left wing would've been miles better. 5. Kane starting on the final. What else can i add to what has already been said? 6. England went into the tournament without knowing it's best eleven, without having a plan. While teams like Germany and Spain, even smaller nations knew how and who were going to play. Southgate tried to solve issues as the tournament was already going. This final was lost by Southgate. Simple as that. It was his last chance. All he had to do was to put best players in the best positions to succeed and get out of the way. He failed. Time to go.

For instance, it doesn't matter who the opposition is, if England had played "the worst football", they by definition would have lost all three group matches and never got past round 1. And "the worst football" also by definition could not include "moments of individual brilliance." If England losing is on Southgate, then getting to the final must have had at least something to do with him too. His management can't be so destructive if England reached the final. Palmer was not rotting on the bench. He scored a goal in the final precisely because Southgate put him on the field. Maybe as a sub, but if you put him on from the start, who do you leave out to make way for him? And as a sub, he brings fresh legs on to play against defenders who've been running around for 70 minutes. Why Gordon? He still hasn't proven himself at international level, so why are you so confident he would have made a key difference? If Kane had been dropped and England had still lost, everyone would be tearing Southgate to bits for it. Everyone claiming that Watkins should have started instead are just knee-jerk-reacting to his goal in the semi-final, which he scored when, again, he was fresh on as a substitute against a tiring Dutch defence. As for others like Toney and Eze, they did okay when they came on, but hardly anything dramatic. "This final was lost by Southgate. Simple as that. It was his last chance. All he had to do was to put best players in the best positions to succeed and get out of the way. He failed. Time to go" This is just a ridiculous, infantile assumption that completely overlooks the opposition. Whatever we think is England's best team, that Spanish side is something exceptional and I am unconvinced that any line-up England went with would have been able to beat them. There is no shame or disgrace in losing to a team that good, especially by a single goal with only four minutes to go. England don't have a divine right to win, so go and have a cold shower or something.

English players played well when surrounded by foreign players and managed by foreign managers. In other words, you English fans think too much of them and too little of the rest. Carvajal is class, Rodri is class, Dani Olmo is class, Cucurella is class, Fabián Ruiz is class, Zubimendi is class, Pedri is class and of course Lamine and Nico are class. Add to those Merino, Laporte, Nacho, Morata, etc. They are all class, versatile, worked like a unit...simply brilliant. Persisting with Kane, Foden and Bellingham is Southgate's downfall. All three of them occupying the same space. It can be argued that none of them deserved to start the final, especially Kane and Foden. Foden 7 games, 0 goals, 0 assists and Kane 7 games, 3 goals, 1 of which was a penalty vs the Netherlands which was never a penalty. Bellingham also didn't turn up this tournament. Not using the likes of Watkins, Bowen, Gordon and Palmer was a mistake. They deserved more minutes and would be performed better than Foden and Kane. Taking Mainoo off for Palmer and leaving Rice on his own was suicidal. Walker was awful aswell with both goals coming down his side. Trent should have been used in his actual position instead of Walker. On paper this England side is better than this Spain side. Spain were good but England were tactically poor. Not to mention Grealish, Rashford, Sterling, Sancho and co left at home. The talent pool England have is crazy. Southgate has wasted 8 years with another golden generation with nothing to show for it. Another final bottled by Southgate.

The difference between the two teams is simply and clearly shown by the the goal kicks. The Spanish keeper would play a 4 yard pass to a defender and they would play it out beating the English pressing. Pickford would hoof the ball to half way line like we were playing football from the 80s. Also remember we have Walker and Stones in defence who play under pep so are used to playing out and beating presses, but no under Southgate...hoooooooof ball. Might as well have Graham Taylor in charge.
