1. I 100% agree with everything you said about Unleashed. I never understood all the hate it got. Sure the Werehog levels felt like they took a long time, but imo, it was an interesting change of pace. Seriously, until Generations came out, I haven't had so much fun playing a Sonic game since Heroes. 2. Speaking of Heroes, while I WILL admit that it's a mess as I'm looking back on it, it was (imo) what I think a Sonic game should be like: Fast paced and quick on your toes. I also liked the idea of having to think of the best and quickest way(s) to beat your enemies and I like games like that. 3. My reasons for preferring SA2 over SA1 is the story and "high speed linear action", but mainly the character development for everyone, especially Shadow. I was 16 when SA2 came and from the moment I saw Shadow, I instantly loved him. Back then, he had such a mysterious vibe and I LOVED it.

Id share the same feelings for Transformed, but this game has one of the wildest difficulty spikes in the racing series that I still dont have a full grasp of even after hundreds of hours put into it. I love the game, but I just cant be bothered unlocking the later content, and the boat controls always drive me up a wall, along with replaying all the missions I took a while to beat on A class again but for S class because thats unlocked way later on. Also, on wii U, when the framerate drops it definitely made racing more difficult than it needed to be. This is not so bad on PC, but yeah, its one of those games thats great, but it is the most difficult racing game Ive played next to CTR Nitro Fueled's platinum relic challenges

I cheated my way trough on some missions actually. Transformed allows item transfer on the local 2 player races for some reason. My friend tried to advance and win the races and I stayed behind near the power up capsules and constantly transferred him all the power ups on some missions. Try It! Maybe it will help you as well.

I do appreciate the effort put in here. That's a lot of content to go through! However I have to admit, I stopped the moment you put Advance 1 not just below 2, but below Forces AND Shadow The Hedgehog, because I'd simply run out of patience. It isn't just the controversial choices, it's your justifications being either minimal or contradictiory. Not just Advance of course, far from the only game I had issue of placement on - shoutout to claiming Forces has better level design than Colours, I could write you an entire essay denouncing that opinion if I could - but I feel this video has been a victim of its own ambition for future note. Still, the very start was an interesting ride through lesser known games and surprisingly upbeat!

I don't think I said Forces has better level design. I do think they're very comparable in quality, but I would give the edge to Colours considering its usage of wisps and how they add to the depth and layers to a lot the levels. But ignoring wisps, it easily has the worst 2D boost design. Even compared to Forces imo. For the Advance games, I think they're all poorly designed. 2 and 1 are very close in quality, but 2 feels like a predecessor to the rush games in design, which is why I've put that as my favourite. 1 on the other hand is just really bland and forgettable, like a subpar classic game. I was considering early on placing 1 and 2 above, at least Forces (not Shadow because of the story and concepts), but I realised that I honestly have more fun playing through Forces. Mostly because it's 3D tbh. Were my placements really that contradictory/minimal? I spent a lot of time on the script and rankings, so I hope not.

My issue with this (and yes is Forces related) is that from the 27th to 23rd place you were starting to make weird choices of starting with Pocket Adventure (average but enjoyable) to average, but... ¿¿¿nextly average turning to bad in TSR??? nextly average bland, average turning to good, and Sonic Forces is average bland bad? I was very confused because of the sorting you made and i would prefered putting Advance 1, TSR and Forces more on the 28th to 26th place but i share most of your thoughts and it was a good and well made video, have a good day!

I don't really like the advance games or pocket adventure that much. They're fun but flawed and forgettable imo. I have more fun with Forces,, as blasphemous as that may be. And TSR is still a bit of fun - I do love Transformed after all. So maybe that goes to explain it a little better lol

Ok so... hot take but... I actually LOVE rise of lyric. Easily S tier. I get that it's not really a traditional sonic game, but I love some of the gimmicks and level design, and the game can be played non-linearly. It's so much fun to just progress through the story, the animations and graphics are really damn good, ESPICALLY for the Wii U, and even things like fighting is great with its combo attacks, and overall a very polished and interesting experience. And also, the game got a 1 GB update after release that fixed nearly every bug. It's not my favorite sonic game, but it's certainly close. The only thing you said that I actually agree with is the music, with I still think is like a 6/10.

Mean bean machine is a reskin of puyo puyo, and if you ranked it based on that merit, of being a simple reskin, I wouldn't really care, but because you said it's bad because of the gameplay, I have to disagree. Puyo puyo is one of the best puzzle games out there, you literally just match colors, it isn't complicated, but there's a high skill ceiling because you can chain colors together. There's also an element of strategy in determining if it's worth going for a long combo or if your opponent will be able to block you before you're able to finish it. You can even prevent your opponents junk from being placed on your side and counter it by clearing puyos of your own, or you can accept their junk in order to send more junk to them, rather than using it to counter. 🤓

Don’t agree with some of your placements, in SA2’s case I think the emerald hunting is fun, the mech is fun, and the speed levels are amazing/very fun. They aren’t all linear and even if/when they are, they are still very fun. Plus I don’t think SA 1 and 2’s levels are that different though IK some of SA1’s can be a bit more open than some of SA2’s, though it’s more of a case by cases basis and even then it’s not a night and day difference or anything. There are a lot of people who like the chao garden. I don’t understand how you can be fine with the same gameplay in SA1 but not in SA2, the mech is the same as Gamma’s, and the emerald hunting being largely the same aside from the hints and the detector. I don’t understand how you can hate on a game but also love it, so even if I don’t agree, interesting to see other placements. In CD’s case the levels are very fun. Heroes is very good as well. I am very very surprised to see a racing game at the number 1 spot, it’s good but not number 1 good, at least if you ask me. In any case, agree to disagree I guess

fair enough with most of this haha. I wasn't really doing an objective ranking or anything, just my own opinions, which explains chao garden and stuff. I will say I stand by the SA2 gameplay differences. The speed levels are pretty fun, but outside of the rail grinding levels, they're borderline corridors. They're probably the most linear 3D levels, outside the storybook games. Doesn't really make full advantage of the adventure style gameplay and spin dash like with the first game. The gamma sections are fast and fun, compared to SA2 where they're very slow and clunky. And the treasure hunting levels are piss easy in SA1, compared to SA2 where they're just annoying to play through. Even if both playstyles were the same quality in both games, they take up a considerable amount of SA2 (2/3), whereas it only takes an hour tops to play through both of Knuckles and Gamma's playthroughs. I do like SA2 a lot though, It's is one of my favourite and most played sonic games. I just find it a very flawed game. Same goes for heroes. They're both very high on my list.

@@WumbleWasp I'm not sure what you mean when you say the hunting stages are slow. It's not classic Resident Evil. You're not really finding the emeralds yourself. The radar helps you with that. What you're really doing is traversing the sandbox as fast as you can until you get a beep on an emerald, then it turns into a game of hot and cold. Overall, it's a pretty fast gameplay style.

Mario & Sonic London 2012 is an awesome game, Rio 2016 doesn’t even come close to the greatness of that game, I have no damn clue why Rio is higher here. Edit: after watching the Rio section, I can kinda see why you personally liked this game more… but I still hate this game. Olympic Winter Games and London 2012 are much better at being Mario and Sonic games than Rio could ever be, with all the fanservice, Dream events, fun minigames, etc. I’d much rather play Mario and Sonic playing sports over a generic ass sports game with Mario and Sonic characters thrown in, but that’s just my opinion. The lack of Dream events really make the game even worse as a result.

ok this list is great but the SFSB placement is criminal. It sounds like you got to 3k trophies, lost a couple times, and quit the game. There is true complexity to the game (if you decide to actually look into the mechanics of the game) and EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER can be maxed out for free if you play the game enough. By the way, and I'm sure this isn't indicative of the last time you played, but you're using SFSB footage from like 3 years ago. The game has updated and become a ton better since. EDIT: ok so you did show about 6 months old gameplay at the end of the sfsb segment but again, this really sounds like you haven't played the game much. Oh also what the hell were you talking about with laggy matches? The game's servers are fine, that's probably just your internet. EDIT 2: 06 above Forces, Unleashed, Colors, and Lost World? Really?

I just checked and I actually have 4000 trophies, so checkmate 😎 But, even that would have surely taken me upwards of 10 hours to grind back in 2018 ish, possibly more tbh. Maybe the trophy scaling has changed since, but even so, how much are you really expecting out of me? 50-100 hours before the game gets good? And, where exactly is the complexity in this game? It's a pay to win auto runner. Anyway, Unleashed, Lost World and Colours (... DS) are above '06, and I was under the impression that a lot of people prefer '06 to Forces, so I'm not sure why that's too suprising.

Ok yeah Sonic Colors has it's flaws but....the 2D mostly isn't that slow and the blockiness isn't that bad and it isn't too gimmicky and platforming is a issue? It should have platforming and it isn't that wisp heavy, compared to stuff like Unleashed where the werehog is 50% of the gameplay in the PS2 and WIi versions. And it isn't that automated either, it has some automation but it really isn't THAT bad. Eh it is near the quality of some of those 2D sonic games with those games qualities ranging anyways. Also like....no I can't see how Sonic 4 especially is better then Colors, 4 is just straight up bad tbh. And I disagree that it's the worst boost game in level design it really isn't. Like not all other boost game has better 2D design and levels and that includes Forces which is just a mess of a game really and couldn't even do classic Sonic right. Like it's not that automated for the most part, yes everyone brings up starlight carnival but that is very much a outlier not the norm. Like I wouldn't say the levels here are some of the worst, some are bad but generally Colors mostly has good levels including a good underwater level being Aquairum Park which is very rare to do well in a video game let alone a sonic one. People didn't hate multiple characters and play styles in concept...but characters like Big the Cat deserved that criticism. The sword is cool but the werehog? Feels slower for a sonic game and again...in some versions is HALF of the gameplay, which is pretty damning, you can't say in colors half of the gameplay is just slowness like it is in PS2 and Wii Unleashed. So yeah the wisp gimmick at least in Colors was better then any other gimmick tbh. Like Unleashed was good....but it's gimmick execution wasn't perfect. Then again I also really disagree on 06 being above it and Lost Worlds which just feels really soulless, like they straight up tried too much to be like Mario with Lost World, hell even the final boss is like the final boss of NSMB2. Like I guess that is more subjectively tbh....but yeah.

Ngl I replayed Colours just the other day, and my opinion of it is actually now worse than it was back when I made this video. I actually think it's the least enjoyable mainline 3D sonic game. I can understand why people like it, but I actually think Forces is better now. It does have considerable amount of automated sections, and is prominently gimmicky/blocky slow paced 2D platforming though. I made a video breaking down the gameplay for it a while back. It's actually 15% completely automated. And less than 10% fully controlled 3D. I do find that as bad as the level design forces has, it's still better than colours to me. The layered and non-linear/branching design that Forces has is more limited, but it's more intuitive and isn't locked behind the use of stop and start gimmicks. Colours may have higher highs, but it has far lower lows, and Forces just comes of as a bit more consistent in quality (even if that quality is like 6/10).
