i've known of Al for a while (Albuquerque was a game changer in 2011) but I didn't start seriously listening to him until last year. Straight Outta Lynwood is to me "Peak Al". My favorite Al song is hands down "Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota" and overall my favorite album as a whole is "Alapalooza" (except for "Bedrock Anthem", I usually skip that track). I made a music video in college for "Foil" and I think the perception of my camera work and acting in that video hindered my enjoyment of the song. I attended the "Strings Attached" tour and it was one of the best live music experiences of my life. I have performed "One More Minute", "Achy Breaky Song", and "Frank's 2000 Inch TV" live in a coffee house setting, but those were mostly due to my own vocal range limitations. You sir, have some pretty good opinions on Weird Al songs! :)

I honestly have to agree about Fat. Half of Al’s humor comes from his music videos, which I think is what makes the videos for the parodies a smidge funnier than the parodies themselves (though they can absolutely be funny on their own too, Smells Like Nirvana’s a great example). And Fat is probably the definitive example of that personal preference - if it wasn’t for the video, the song would just be a 3-minute fat joke; not something that really ages well, especially to the younger set like me. So yeah, I agree that the video’s better

@MitchQuadrupleTree7 ай бұрын
Can't really disagree with your placement of Polka Party!, even though I do enjoy the album. Have you ever noticed, though, just how lopsided the album as a whole seems? All but one of the parodies are parodies of songs from movie soundtracks (Rocky IV, Short Circuit, and Ruthless People, respectively), songs which typically have an extremely short shelf life even by pop music standards (Seriously, the only one of those songs I'll occasionally hear on the radio is "Living in America" because it's James Brown. When's the last time you heard "Who's Johnny?" come on the radio?). And then most all the really successful songs of that year ended up in the polka medley instead. Editing to add on after watching more of the video. Absolutely agree on "You Make Me." It's one of my absolute favorite tracks of his as well. I remember going to see him on the Alpocalypse Tour and was ecstatic when that was included on the setlist.
