Usually I hate to see rankings “on the fence”, but the Bird/Magic rivalry makes them almost a “single” player for the 1980s. Each of them is so legendary because of both of them. Great video. I was surprised to see Moses so high, and Dr. J and Kareem definitely benefitted from their accolades from the 70s. These players made me pause and think, but I definitely won’t disagree with your choices.

14:02 If Bird was in the League today he'd be a better version of Luka. Sounds outrageous but think about it. Of course Bird wouldn't have Luka's stepback 3 but what Bird would have is a better post game, better midrange game, be about 4 inches taller, better defense, better passing, & a higher basketball IQ.

I think larry bird being more clutch than magic is a fact but, i believe that if magic had worse teammates, he would have been more clutch. Magic during his prime played with some of the best players at their respective positions. Even if we try to not look at it, it keeps dragging down magic in the all time list. I personnally give more points to accomplishments thzn stats so i give magic the edge.

This video is tremendous. Had to add you to my scripts after watching. Goddamn, theres just not enough love for Big Mo these days, loved the clips, haven't seen several of them previously. As a Boston fan, I've watched that 81 Finals several times. Larry really struggled after playing like a Greek god in the 7 game ECF against Dr. J. But it's amazing to watch Mo carry that underrated Houston team. People always talk down about that team because they were a low seed, but never bother to mention all the injuries they dealt with during the regular season. Mo wasn't even the only HOFer on that squad. Another guy from that series who is incredibly overlooked, Finals MVP Cedric Maxwell. He was sorta like a Robert Horry, his season stats never jump out at you, but he is one of the best big game players of the era. Bravo man, great video.

It won 1 championship in the 80s, he should be below moses and kareem. 89-90 is reffered to the 90s. I agree that he should be above MJ though. I tend to give more points to accomplishments than stats.

@@darrellhardy90 skillwise nobody is probably better than Jordan that I agree. But being more skilled doesn't mean you're better as a player in NBA basketball. Its all about winning. If it's 1 on 1 nobody will probably beats mj but NBA basketball is not 1v1 . Same as wilt he can score 50 points per game and grab 30 rebounds per game and play 48 minutes per game but he will never be above bill russ the real goat of bball

Magic has the better resume, but Bird was more talented. Bird and Magic were basically the same player, but only one of them could shoot-- and you could argue he's the best to every do it.

Bird vs. Magic is a complete tie in my mind. Magic had more rings and is the all time leader in assists per game. While Larry doesn't lead the league all time in any stat he was a better scorer than Magic and also had a solid all around game and won championships in a more competitive east with less talent around him than Magic.

I'm fine with you ranking Bird ahead of Magic, but don't disrespect that Celtics team. - Dave Cowens: Hall of fame made his final All-Star team that year. - Tiny Archibald: hall of fame, All-Star that season and the next two. - M. L. Carr: put up 18 ppg and 2nd team all defense the year before in Detroit before taking a smaller role on this roster. - Pete Maravich was done, so I can understand not counting him. - Cedric Maxwell never had great numbers but put up 19 and 9 the year before Bird arrived and stil named finals MVP over Bird in '81.

What's interesting is that there is a huge controversy over Isiah Thomas being left off the Dream Team, but nobody ever says anything about Moses Malone. The two had very similar career resumes, Isiah won 2 titles in 3 finals while Moses was 1 for 2, but Moses was a 3 time MVP. Both were Finals MVPs. You are probably thinking, yeah, but in 1992, Moses was past his prime, while Isiah was still in his. But, if Win Shares are to be believed, that's not true, Moses had more Win Shares than Isiah in each of the 4 years between Olympic games 1988-1992. Furthermore, as a big man, he'd probably would have been a better fit in the rotation than Isiah as a point guard. I'm not going to say Moses should have been on the Dream Team, or that he was better than Isiah, but I think he has an equally compelling argument that never gets talked about.

In my opinion, Moses Malone was MAYBE the best player of the early 80s (80-83), Larry Bird was DEFINITELY the best player of the mid 80s (84-86), and Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson were the best players of the late 80s. That being said, Bird won Rookie of the Year (Magic got a whopping three votes), won three straight MVPs, finished second in MVP voting four times, never finished lower than 4th in MVP voting, and received 67% of ALL MVP voting in the 1980s. So yeah, that’s NBA dominance.
