Nah it's not that, the reason warlocks use eldritch blast all the time is in case the party doesn't take enough short rests, see if your party takes enough short rests you can use ur spells as much as you want because you know ur gonna short rest soon, but if you run out of spell slots and u can't take a short rest all you can do is eldritch blast, and if ur party tells you they aren't gonna do a short rest you'd wanna save ur spell slots when ur about to, so you use eldritch blast (what I mean is to really use warlocks to the max the party needs to take short rests more often)

Personally, Sorcerers are actually my favorite because of the whole "inherent magic" type thing, I mean it's cool how Wizards can cast all those spells, but Sorcerers open up a bunch of different Unique Narratives as you explore how they got their magic and what it means, at least, IMO.

Also, Metamagic can pose incredible utility at times, completely saving the party in some scenarios "I use Knock on the door" "It has 2 locks, they'll hear the first one" "That's why I Twin-spell it, and rush in" "I will cast Fireball on the mage, with Subtle Spell" "Why subtle spell?" "It helps" "oookay, well he's going to counterspell it" "it has no components though, he can't see me casting the spell to counter it" "Wait uhh.... nevermind, how do you want to do this?" (both have happened to my Divine Soul sorcerer.. that subclass also making it an amazing healer) I do agree that inherent magic is fun tho, and some backstories of "they wanted to be a wizard, were terrible in the classes, until they found out they could just do it anyways" or "they think they're a cleric, but they keep praying to a god that doesn't exist" are a ton of fun

Duke, I'm so happy to see you give Ranger its due. They were the last 5e class I've made a character for, and they were honestly my favorite character as a class that I've made. When you stop relying on Hunter's Mark and start concentrating on their better spells, like Entangle, Fog Cloud, Spike Growth, Conjure Animals, and others, the Ranger can really own the battlefield. And, with Goodberry, they become the team healer to boot. A back row healer. Hi, Cleric! I'm staying out of danger! ^^ Love the Ranger.

@@Mendoza-yi6qk Mercy monk can smite and heal on hit, and gets ki back on short rest meaning they can spam heal the party during short rests avoiding the team needing to use hit-dice. There are a lot of crazy builds for monks people just havent tapped into yet in the popular media space.

My monk (lvl 8 - open hand) is actually quite tanky. She only has one HP less than our paladin. I prioritised Con when leveling her so she can actually take quite a few hits before going down. And of course, I can self heal with Wholeness of Body when I need it. She's easily one of the main damage dealers of my party. She's managed to take out 2 enemies in one turn before. Monks can be pretty powerful if you build them a certain way.

Mine is a peace domain whose focus is almost entirely on buff and support, but when angered, she has a nasty habit of critting inflict wounds at max spell level. So far, I've crit about 75% of the time she does do damage and it usually obliterates whatever it is, lol. My party doesn't wanna piss her off 😅 Her goal is to help boost others who wouldn't normally get a chance to make a difference do so, hence the buffing. She wants to empower others and see them shine, doing good things.

I would put Sorcerer above wizard any day of the week. My spells cost nothing for me to learn, I can use Metamagic to make them better than wizard’s spells any day of the week, and the trade off is that I have access to slightly less spells? Yeah, I’ll take a high Charisma and being able to rule RP and higher Metamagic abilities, thank you

@@lucashayes346 I do love the idea of using the face stat for spell casting, and meta magic is very fun. Important to note though that wizards don’t have to spend any money to have more spells than sorcerers. Wizards gain 2 spells per level, not including the spells you start with based off your intelligence score. You only start going broke when you become a spell hoarder, or you have a subclass that really wants as many spells as possible in their book, like order of scribes (although even with OoS you can do that thing where you find one of the tasha’s wizard spell books and make that spell book your new spell book and then make your old spell book your new spell book again to bring all the new spells back without paying anything)

I think the reason behind why the barbarian wasn't an S tier might have been because they're so predictable. This can be changed by going the wild magic barbarian path. Every time you rage, you may just randomly teleport 20ft. above your enemy, or be able to casually throw your greatsword, or how about creating tiny magic bombs, or making your weapon just deal force damage. You never know which you'll get, so it gives the barbarian an element of unpredictability.

The real answer to what classes are the best is: Whichever ones you want to play! Every class has its own strengths and weaknesses, and all provide unique roleplay opportunities, so play whatever is the most fun! If you're feeling damage (like me) you should try Oath of Vengeance Paladin and Echo Knight Fighter multiclass. Against a single target, you're basically a blender lmao

I feel like this list must be assuming 5th level at MOST. A rogue is incredibly easy for a high CR spellcaster to shut down completely. All it takes is the enemy wizard catching one glimpse of them and now your rogue is subject to being forcecaged, then microwaved by sickening radiance next turn with no recourse. Of course as a DM I would find that too mean, but really any martial is gonna be utter dogwater in the face of a competent caster at high level.

Ranger's get a lot of hate because of their worst subclass, but they are really fun. They're also the only class whose starting equipment can include a Longbow instead of a Shortbow. My favorite Ranger I've built was a Half-Elf Ranger with Gloomstalker subclass who mostly only comes out at night, because of the 3rd level ability Umbral sight which increases Darkvision range, but more importantly, makes you invisible to anything that relies on darkvision to see you in darkness, which means you get advantage to attacking them, and they get disadvantage to attacking you.

Fun Druid idea that I have for one of my back-up characters: a Reborn Lizardfolk who took Circle of the Moon and who's basically just a living dinosaur skeleton. He can use his Wild Shape to only turn into prehistoric Beasts and other animals that were around that time (such as sharks) and every time he transforms, his bones crack into shape as the nervous and muscular systems form around him before being covered in skin.

I was playing kobold druid with crow companion, it was really fun. He wasn't like other druids who love nature and want to befriend animals no matter what, if they left him alone he left them alone but if you wanna fight I will either run away or fight to the death

My most fun druid was civilized "Tarzan", older druid who got completely civilized and lived a normal life in city, only very relucantly relearning and using his innate druid powers for story purposes... He was wearing fedora and suit the for most of campaing :D

I use to play nothing but sorcerers because they're an easy class to understand and you don't have to deal with books or patrons you just know spells. Then I played a Rouge. Best decision in my life most fun I've ever had in a dnd campaign. Currently playing a Warlock in pathfinder 2e as a yugioh abridged reference. Good list would put sorcerers up higher but thats just me.

Ranger is A tier because it's B tier in like 4 different class roles, it fills in any gap the party has and is good enough to hold it's ground when the big specialized types are missing. Half a druid, half a rogue, half a fighter, (And with Fey wanderer) half a bard. They're 200% of a class. They're not the best in any particular role, but they're very good in so many different roles at once that they're almost always useful.

I think cleric deserves more than a B tear. Because it depends from the divine domain the pg have. The cleric is so versatile that can be a healer or a DPS (For that I personally recommend tempest domain)

Funny thing is, Druid and Sorcerer are my 2 favorite classes to play. Druids get Wild Shape, which may not be great at first, but if the DM lets you be creative it has some amazing utility. Unless you play Circle Of The Moon, in which case just play a Barbarian. Maybe not as powerful as others, but definitely a ton of fun. And, more importantly, my argument for Sorcerer: They get less spell options than Wizard, but they get to cast them in fun ways. A Sorcerer who prepares the Knock spell can Twin Spell it, unlocking a door with 2 locks for one action. If you're against a mage, by using a sorcery point to use Subtle Spell, the enemy can't counterspell it, as they can't see the spell being cast until they're already hurt. And even then, move aside Cleric, the Divine Soul subclass gets all Cleric spells, with Twin Spell added on, making Sorcerer among the best healers in the game. Lastly, ignoring metamagic, Sorcery Points give you extra spell slots if needed, giving your longevity a massive boost in most scenarios. imo, Sorcerer's are what Wizards wish they could be, but in the end they're just 2 sides of the "squishy caster" coin: Wizards are versatile in the spells they pick before a fight, while Sorcerers are flexible with how they cast their spells during the combat. In trade, wizards can only cast a spell as is described, and Sorcerers can't have as many spells to choose from.

I think any class can be amazing depending on how you play it. I've played a decent amount of D&D and started DMing recently and it's really interesting seeing people's portrayals of different class. My most recent party I DMed for had a wizard, 2 paladins and 2 clerics, (they did not talk to each other or me before making characters, then again it was ment to be a one shot while waiting for regular DM to return before it got popular) despite the party's composition they are all very unique characters and managed to hold things together mostly. I think it's not always about the character but how it's played. That being said I have played so many Rouges and they are definitely top tier they are so much fun. But that's just my opinion.

Agree with warlock but I think the sorcerer has a much more defined well of magic and can be really fun to theme your magic. As with druids, you can use your wild shape to tank a lot of damage if you need to and you have a lot of versatility. You can also really easily theme your magic

My tier list: S: Sorcerer, Warlock A: Druid, Cleric, Artificer, Paladin B: Monk, Wizard, Bard C: Rogue, Ranger D: Barbarian, Fighter It's ranked on how interesting I find the classes conceptually, generally not counting subclasses. S tiers are extremely and intrinsically compelling to me, conceptually. A tiers are just really solid. It doesn't take much to get the ball rolling on an interesting character concept. B tiers have that mystical dedication that gives them *_some_* interesting spin. C tiers take quite some work to make compelling and unique, but they mesh well with certain kinds of adventures well enough to have something going for them. D tiers are really difficult for me to come up with interesting concepts for-- especially when put next to the other classes. What? "Mechanics"? "Utility"? "Damage"? "Combat"? Who cares about that stuff? Make a character concept with cool RP first, and figure out the rest... **handwave** ...eventually.

Going with mechanics and agreeing with the concept of having fun, this is my tier-list: S: Sorcerer, Rogue [extremely powerful, fun and easy to play] A: Artificial, Warlock, Paladin [fun and decent fighters, but it's hard to unlock their full potential] B: Fighter, Barbarian, Cleric [solid, calm and reliable] C: Bard, Ranger, Monk [limited at their mechanics and stereotypes, not great, not enough fun] D: Druid, Wizard [why use them?] P.S. BTW, I'm really curios, how did you put Fighter lower than Wizard? It's most of time just an old man or scientist, while Fighters gather all the archetypes for brute force without magic, like swordmaster, veteran, hunter, guardian, marine and many others.

@@andreyraven5316 I think I just find arcane study more compelling than martial study, and that colours my opinions and biases on classes. I mean, in a world with magic, someone with a focus on the mundane is going feel... well, mundane. Ordinary, even. As a result, it takes a lot more effort for me to make them compelling for me. Really, though, anything from B-D I find to be on the more difficult side when it comes to making characters that are both unique _and_ compelling. ...Now that I think about it, though, I think part of why I put Fighter at the bottom is that it's the most broad class. Other classes generally have some intrinsic flavour to build off of, whereas Fighters are written as noticably vague. They're good with weapons. How did they gain this ability to attack well with weapons? Take a wild guess. Oh, practicing? Yeah, I figured. Anything else? No? Okay. Other classes get the imagination going by leaving blanks for the player to fill in. (What is the source of your magic, and how did you get it? Who is your god/patron, and how did you gain their boons? What is your oath and what galvanized you to take it on?) Fighters are just one big blank. There's no intrinsic spin or modus operandi. It's *_just_* martial weapon (any). It's a flavourless, mundane blank slate. It's possible to make a Fighter compelling, absolutely... but every other class has that easier.

I enjoyed this immensely and agree with most of it, although I think Bard should be boosted a tier, because even though it's become a meme-y class overall, for people who are still serious about DnD, the bard really does offer some great support, and their charisma is really handy to have for out of combat situations. Every party should have a bard or high charisma rogue in my opinion. Unless your campaign is almost solely about combat and exploring, and not interacting with other people I guess.

I love rangers so much. Every single subclass has the potential to either specialize in something, usually to pretty good effect, or just be a one man adventuring party and serve whatever role the party needs at the moment.

One of my players has expressed interest in playing a Horizon Walker which I have always believed relies more on DM participation than most class choices because I would then have to generate extraplanar portals in the world, detail where they go to and what might be coming out of them, and think about what might happen if he decides to step through…. I havent had this much fun doing that sort of narrative world-building in the background since my last Warlock player where I RP’d all the interactions he had with his Devil which eventually led to him going to the second layer of the Nine Hells and eventually fighting in the Blood War

I personally love Warlocks. They’re very flexible in how you can play them and they have alot of good subclasses. The only thing I wish is that their expanded spell list was added to their spells known instead of just being extra options, and that they had more spell slots

I've created 6 characters, though don't have a group to play with:( Anyway, my favorite character of them I created is a Female Drow Death Domain Cleric sworn to the Raven Queen:) As for how I established the stats for each of them is this: The Player's Handbook suggested a stat spread that totals 72 points. I took that idea and simply put 72 points total in a way I liked so no true negatives but very little positives. Then add any Racial Stats or Class Stats on top of that.

I like how everyone disses on Warlocks, but they have some of the best cross-class potential, the most diverse array of abilities when comparing subclasses, reach higher level spells faster, and have some of the most powerful spells casters can learn. I often mix Warlock/Fighter or Warlock/Sorcerer to capitalize on their versatility and abuse action economy.

Monks have the same evasion as rogues, plus they have speed bonuses. I’m playing a tabaxi monk in a campaign right now, and at level 9 I can move 330’ in one round, say no to physics, and fly really fast in short bursts since I’m Way of the Ascendant Dragon.
