Reasons why I'm able to justify the Pettigrew ranking: #1 - Pettigrew was the only one who truly immersed himself in the dark arts- exploring an entire other side of the magical spectrum #2 - Pettigrew was the only one who knew conjuration - an advanced form of transfiguration #3 - Pettigrew was capable of producing a blasting curse that could destroy HUNDREDS of feet of sewer system #4 - Pettigrew was extremely successful at brewing HIGHLY complicated potions like the Regeneration Potion, Polyjuice Potion etc. #5 - Pettigrew showed extreme wand versatility, and was able to use any and all wands that he gained possession of, despite not winning the wand's allegiance #6 - Peter was able to stay in his Animagus form for TWELVE years #7 - Peter was extremely skilled at using the unforgivable curses, which are not easy to use at all Also: -James died young, meaning he never truly tapped in to his full potential (also James dying to Voldemort wasn't my justification for his placement, yes..ANYONE would have died to Voldemort) -Sirius was imprisoned for a large portion of his life -Remus didn't have the same knowledge of transfiguration Yes, Peter was weak in his younger days, but as he got older he became a very powerful wizard. He was unquestionably always a coward, but he was a powerful coward.

Situation wise, Pettigrew's not much different than Sirius in Azkaban. Yet Sirius managed to escape, an impressive feat for someone who was in despair in Azkaban due to the environment and Dementor.

Well James died young at he was labeled as a very powerful wizard. We didn't see much of Sirius either, since he was imprisoned for 12 years and then died in the Order of the Phoenix **sniff** Remus was great,I think, one of the best teachers if not the best in my opinion, and I hate the filthy rat but I have to admit that Harry Potter Theory is right about his magical abilities getting stronger after joining Voldemort. Still, I loath Peter very much so I'd never put him in the first place

Agree, but Peter had to have at least been as good as Sirius if they trusted Peter to be the secret keeper. Or maybe the plan was for Peter to learn the secret and lives as a rat for the rest of his life unless someone really needed to get in touch with the Potters or it was safe for them to leave.

Pretty much. One only need read the books to understand that peter was by far the weakest of the 4. He did not defeat sirius when sirius had tracked him down. In fact he was so scared of sirius he blew up a street, killed 13 muggles and cut off his finger to flee him. Meaning he knew he could not beat sirius head to head. Also i would give James the slight edge over Sirius as he was recruited by Voldemort and killed personally by Voldemort and anyone who knows anything about HP knows He only killed important wizards in person. IMO that alone places James at the top of this list

James was only killed young because he didn’t have his wand on him he fought Voldemort with his fists. Lupin is also very underrated there is hardly any difference between them but lupin survived the longest of them all only dying in a huge battle. Sirius was killed from the side and protecting Harry. Petigrew was powerful in some ways but weak in the majority of the rest the others would handily defeat him.

It is said in the books, James and Sirius were the most gifted and powerfull wizzards of the four friends, I think hagrid or some other elder even said the strongest of their year(though this could obviously be biased) But Lupin was the smartest(studying hard) Pettigrew has always been said he was not gifted, and if i remember correctly there was a line saying: he only got through all the years because of the help of his friends. 'He seeks those with power because he himself was lacking'(or something like that) This being said James and Sirius were the more powerfull, lupin third and peter with quite a big margin last. Of course he had his uses for Voldemort, but it was all voldemort could work with at the time. Lupin might be considered stronger because he became older than James and Sirius(who was in azkaban), but in my opinion this does not change the power level you are at, you can become smarter, more verstile and experienced. But pure power wise in a duel i do not know if lupin at his age could beat the edge james and sirius had for being a stronger wizzard(not smarter or more versatile, but pure strength of spells).

It's funny until I watched this I had never considered age and experience into my answer for this. Certainly if you take a look as they all leave Hogwarts James and Sirius out strip Peter. Yet when I think about it, the argument of considering them at their dying moments then theory is right with peters abilities. However the reason I struggle to think of him as first is because every character looks down on Peter and he only seems to overcome them by betrayal. He never outright over powers people. He runs from a weakened sirius. Voldemort constantly views him as sub par ( compared to his other death eaters). Others look down on him non stop. whilst arrogance is a part in all of this, there comes a point where you feel that if all the good guys and bad guys are dumping on him there must be a point there. Was he more powerful that I thought... yes. But Voldemort knew of all wormtails accomplishments and still found him pitful compared to Lucius, macnair or Snape. Say what you want but Voldemort isn't stupid about spotting the power and talents of his followers....he just believes he's superior. In essence everyone is beneath him but compared to each other he seems to take note. Voldemort clearly views James potter a threat as he killed him rather than toying with him and letting him get his wand (something he did for Harry in the graveyard and Harry was way under threatening). It wasn't exactly like he didn't have spare time, he had James and Lilly trapped. Voldemort likes to play with his food but when there's a chance it can snap back he doesn't give them a chance. I think his quick killing of James without any other returbition (remember James thrice defied him) speaks to how he viewed James as a powerful opponent.

I dont think using dark magic should take you off the list. It may be forbidden by law abiding citizens but at the end of the day the most powerful person is simply the most powerful regardless of how they achieve that power. Even after learning the dark arts I'd rank Pettigrew last, learning some powerful spells wouldnt change his ineptitude.

The ranking should be: 1. James Potter-Died young but was also one of few people who survived an encounter with Voldemort, we don't read about it but it was stated in the books and he was extremely talented. 2. Sirius Black-Was extremely talented like James and was capable of going toe to toe with any death eater including Bellatrix who only killed him by hitting him while he was distracted. 3. Remus Lupin-Prefect in his day and the best DADA Harry ever had. He knew his stuff and common cures for what he dealt with. 4. Peter Pettigrew-yes he dealt in the dark arts and yes he knew enough about potions and spells but he had no confidence, no courage, and even Voldemort held him with no esteem. The thing with the potions though is that even though he made these strong potions, with the right help anyone can. Neville was able to correct every failed potion (his worse subject) with just Hermione whispering in his ear. Wormtail did have Voldemort who was extremely proficient in everything.

There are ways in which you can counter the killing curse. Dumbledore blocked 4-5 of Voldemort's killing curses in their Duel in the Ministry. With/Without a wand too, Remus and Sirius were still better than him, probably Peter too.

The thing is, Peter is one of the best wizards EVER, and with the most impressive feats in the saga, whether you like it or not. Let's make a list, shall we? Charms: Pettigrew was shown to be talented in charm-work. Along with the other three Marauders, Peter helped design the very complex Marauder's Map with the powerful Homonculous Charm; the map was extremely "smart" and could see through anything. Pettigrew was also capable of casting a powerful Memory Charm, which he used to erase the memory of Jacob's sibling after they discovered his identity, keeping his secret. He could also effortlessly cast simple charms such as the Wand-Lighting Charm, Fire-Making Spell[20] and Levitation Charm non-verbally, and could also perform a powerful Stunning Spell. Potions: Peter displayed proficiency in brewing potions, at least those of dark magic nature, having successfully brewed the Rudimentary body potion and the Regeneration potion per Voldemort's instructions, allowing his master to regain a temporary, and then permanent, form, respectively. He also helped brew the Polyjuice Potion for Barty Jnr to disguise as Moody. Transfiguration: Pettigrew could perform conjuration, an advanced type of Transfiguration. In 1995, he conjured ropes with the Incarcerous Spell which bound Harry Potter to Tom Riddle Snr's grave. Although his carelessness from time to time may serve as a setback, such as stopping at an inn for food that led to Jorkins discovering him, Pettigrew proved himself to be a quick thinker to swiftly formulate tactics to take advantage of what seems to be a lost situation. Tldr: I know it hurts you, but the fact is that dastardly rat Peter can break all of your favorite wizards without breaking a sweat. I know it's a hard truth to swallow, but you'll manage.

If you took the class of 1971 and had each person in this list battle any other class member bar Snape in magical ability, I believe without doubt the marauders could easily win. Snape’s basically a God of magic, his ability comparable only to Dumbledoor, Voldemort, and a few ancient wizards. I think Lupin was the best all around wizard, Sirius the beat duelist, Pettigrew the most volcanic, and James doesn’t strike anything special to me, he was just a strong wizard and a leader. Why are we leaving out the fact that Remus was the only one capable of really doing magic for 13 years. Yes he may not have been the most gifted of the bunch but James was dead so he didn't get to add much experience and wisdom to his talents, Sirius was in prison for 13 years after being framed and had to keep his mind completely occupied by revenge on Peter so it's not like he was training during his sentence, and Peter may not have been as taken out of the picture as those 2, but he was still nothing but a rat for 13 years and didn't practice any magic during that time either. Remus was the only one free and able to do anything and was even the last surviving member of the marauders having survived plenty of battles while Peter mainly stayed out of the fights, James died way before the other 3, and Sirius died in a battle that Remus also partook in. So what I'm mainly trying to say is that Remus may not be the most talented, flashy, or the most achieved, but he is most certainly the most competent considering the other three took a 13 year hiatus and even then didn't do much fighting or training once the other two returned (Sirius and Peter just went back into hiding working from the shadows for their opposing sides).

I wouldn't rank Peter ahead of Sirius. Take into consideration that for 12 years Sirius was able not ro lose his mind from dementors in Azkaban. He had to be using some source of powerful magic for that. Plus, there's no evidence Sirius wasn't taught dark magic by his family but chose not to use it.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I believe that Remus should be #1 because although you don't see any amazing magical feats from him he was probably more than capable he was extremely studious with a vast knowledge of magic he was the only one to survive to adulthood without restrictions on his magic and could use it freely for the 12 years that Sirius was incarcerated and Peter in his animagus form unable to practice or hone or grow his magic, and although he would have been reluctant to cast dark arts does not mean he had no knowledge of it and be able to defend against it as is the whole point of defense against the dark arts, also I'm willing to bet if push came to shove he probably could have performed dark arts to some degree and most likely could have brewed the complex potions Peter did, and in a one to one duel I'm pretty sure he could have beaten the two surviving marauders if he did not hold back as not using magic still would have affected both Sirius and Peter to an extent, though they were still both pretty powerful in their own regard you can't stop going to the gym for twelve years and go back one day and be able to bench press exactly as you did twelve years ago without having to build up again, where as Remus never had that issue, and you may argue he didn't have need to practice defense anymore, I would argue that Remus was extremely studious and I don't think he would have stopped in his spare time, it might not have been intensive and fighting for his life but it was still more than nothing. #2 I would say is Sirius, I know Peter is powerful in his own right but as far as an honest duel would go, I think Peter would still lose to Sirius, Sirius was already very powerful as a young man alongside James and had to help Peter to become and animagus and as far as conjuration goes I'm pretty sure all of the marauders could conjure at least birds by the time they left Hogwarts, again just because it isn't shown doesn't mean he was the only person capable and considering they all took their newts and noone ever said about how amazingly better Peter performed than his friends I think it's safe to assume he was either on par or lower grade than them and I'm sure conjuration would have come up in the exams so that is really not a great argument, and just because Sirius wasn't the one to blow up half a street doesn't mean he wasn't capable, it doesn't even have to be a dark curse I'm pretty sure a bombarda Maxima could have done the job for Sirius, just being a coward doesn't affect power, correct, but it does affect performance and ability to fight and as a whole we never witness Peter fight so seeing a one to one duel would be impossible but as a whole it would require casting and finesse I don't believe Peter capable of, and I'm sure if Sirius was faced with casting the same spells as bought up in defense of Peter being more powerful he could most likely do it and do it faster and with better results, like I said just because one person was mentioned doing it does not mean another was not capable, would you say Peter is stronger than Dumbledore based on the fact that Dumbledore didn't blow up a Street and because we don't know whether he was an animagus or not as it was never confirmed or denied, you have to use your intelligence and deduction skills to include more than what is written or that limits you just like Hermione not believing in the deathly hallows as there was no concrete evidence #3 Peter, I think I covered more or less why Peter is Below Remus and Sirius quite extensively above, and I'd like to add that although Peter knew darks arts there probably wasn't a death eater that couldn't defeat him which is quite telling really, and if there was one then fair enough but he's not exactly up there when it comes to magical power even with knowledge and ability to cast the dark arts. Sorry that went on a bit 😂 Edit: also James and Lily did both defy Voldemort thrice according to the prophecy which is no small feat as I'm sure it meant personally defied him not indirectly for him to make the link to Harry being his possible downfall, which means they escaped him alive which is no small feat and had they both had their wands on them when Voldemort came to call there is the great possibility they could have escaped again, I think it was a significant choice on J.K Rowling's part to have them both wandless when Voldemort arrived to kill them otherwise escaping was probably a more likely possibility and there would've been no 'Harry Potter the Boy who Lived', which just shows James' power as I doubt Peter would have been able to escape even once, and he probably doubted it too because if he wasn't tempted by the power he would have been too afraid to refuse knowing he had no chance of escape like James and Lily, if you want to look at it from that angle, that's not a feat any of the other Marauders achieved and would put James as most powerful along with Lily for doing what most people were incapable of doing even once and they did it thrice.

I like how there are so many parallels between the marauders generation, and Harry’s generation. As cliché as it gets 1. Sirius Black - Would hold his own against anyone except for Dumbledore and Voldemort in a duel, even after his time in Azkaban. Just like James, not really killed fairly. That puts him above Lupin. Lupin was not just being modest or hyping up his friends when he said James and Sirius were the best at everything they did. 2. Remus Lupin - Good all around, not extraordinary but very good. Ahead of James because he was able to grow older. 3. James Potter - He toyed with Snape, and Sirius wasn’t even helping that time in Snape’s worst memory. Basically could’ve done whatever he wanted. When he died, it was when he and Lily assumed the loyalty of who they thought to be their friend, Peter Pettigrew and so they were caught without their wands. But since he died early, he never really got to his peak. Even 15 year old James probably would’ve toyed with peak Pettigrew in a duel and reasonably powerful wizards would have feared him if it was a 1v1 duel by the time he was 21. If he was able to grow up, he’d be #1 for sure. 4. Peter Pettigrew - Useless piece of crap who hid behind everyone stronger than him, was able to become an animagus because he was carried by James and Sirius.

That’s an interesting ranking. I would agree Pettigrew has the the greatest feats of any of them, I don’t know whether or not that’s because he himself is more powerful or that surrounds himself with powerful talented people that puts him in powerful positions and is good at mimicry and following instructions. Like how much of his magic surrounding Voldemort’s return is attributable to him and how much is just Voldemort telling him what to do, granted he’s still pulling it off so there is still power there. But power as in putting him in a straight duel with another Marauder, something that requires quick and improvisational thinking, I don’t know if he can beat any of them. Maybe that doesn’t matter, it’s an interesting discussion.

James was powerful enough to defy (along with lily) Voldemort 3 times and survive (since they happened before the faithful night) and only fell so easily to Voldemort becausee he was caught without a wand (he'd still have lost but I think he'd have given Lily enough time to escape with Harry). I'd put James at 1, Lupin at 2 (he lost to Dolohov because he'd almost completely neglected any magic except defensive for months out of fear for his son), then Siris (although I think he's got a good case for second place) and Pettgrew at dead last. Pettigrew wasn't powerful he mostly hid behind people with actual power. Sure he did those potions well but he had better wizards looking over his shoulder at the time.

I think it‘s impossible to judge who was more powerful in the end. First of all you can‘t compare them at the same age, except you look back at their times at Hogwarts. After that it‘s impossible, since noone had the same chances as for instance Lupin who may have been in a financial pecular situation but, could theoratically have continued practicing magic and become ine consequence a more powerful wizard by gaining more knowledge. Second, one cannot judge a person soely by their wand power. There are so many factors that play into a game wether one will win or lose a fight (which could be a way to determine who was the most powerful of them all). Being powerful also means being clever. Yes all for of them were clever, but being clever doesn‘t help you much if you can‘t concentrate under pressure. Which could be why Sirius light-heartedness and bit of arrogance led to his demise in the fith book. In contradiction however stands the fact that Sirius broke out of Azkaban, something I can’t imagine doing any one of his friends, except maybe James. So judging someone only by their archievments doesn‘t help to determine what they are truly capable of, since these end results were also influenced by so many diffrent factors. So in conclusion, in order to determine the answer to your question you would have to know them from an objective perspective, which is almost impossible since the books aren‘t written that way. Harry can‘t know what Peter was really able of. He hasn‘t known him that much, neither did he know his father. All his knowledge comes from what he was told by the people around him, and all this information is also very subjective. Being powerful doesn‘t mean just being able to archieve great things (like resurection the Dark Lord or blowing up a whole bridge) it also means knowing themselves and being able to tell what you can realistically do and what not (because if not Sirius would have never gotten out of Azkaban and Remus might have never made it as far as he did despite his condition). I don't agree with the ranking, but you still make good points. However, I think it is impossible to rank them fairly since we only see Remus and Sirius actually do something. When Peter is present, he is always the afraid thing in the corner and James died at 21, so he had the shortest time to get powerful, had less experience than the others. We only know how he was in school, and he died shortly after. Futhermore, we don't know how much every single marauder did in making the map or becoming an animagus. And, one should define "power" in such a ranking, I think. Anyway, if I would rank them I would but Peter at the bottom. He was the last to become an animagus, he probably got weak of being a rat for 12 years, and we never saw him doing big kinds of magic when he was human. And, everyone who knows him says he is not a good wizard. Number 3 would be James, as I said, we only know his skills at school and he died shortly after that. He was with Sirius the best of his class, and good in duelling. At that time, he was probably higher, but if we take them all at the time they died, Sirius and Remus not only have more experience in the field, they are beyond school skills now. And number 1 is Sirius. He, with James, was the best in class, and I think in Order of the Phoenix, he was still a bit more skilled in duelling than Remus. @Gaius Wyrden I compared them at the point they died and yes, you are right, of course, but I did it this way because, otherwise, I had to ignore some facts for Sirius and Remus, since some of the things I mentioned are only true after James died. Anyway, if I do it as you said and only compare them in their school time, I would say: 4 is still Peter 3 would be Remus 2 Sirius and 1 James since they are both top in class, so it is in a way canon. However, I personally think Remus is only 3/not at the same level in class as James and Sirius because of his monthly transformations. He missed a few days of each month. Depending of the grade in school, it can mean a lot if one misses almost a week of lessions.

Nevertheless, I also think they wouldn't miss lessions due to most of the actions you have to do for it is during night or you can do it easly during the day while doing lessions. (The part with the leaf in the mouth, for example) Anyway, my first ranking and the Video focus more on their archievments and what powers they needed for it etc. As I said, for such a ranking one should define the subject of comparison first. Power can mean a lot. So my first ranking is as valid as the Video. ^^ But if one wants to compare their skills itself etc, choosing the same age makes sense, of course.

Remember, James did not have his wan when he battled Voldemort and that is why he died fast. Peter is not the most powerful of the Muroders, James and Sirius where equal, lupin was strong but because he was also a Werewolf it weakened his magic because of his fear. Peter is a weak sniveling coward that only got strong because of the protection of the more powerful Wizard and he was willing to use what that more powerful wizard taught him, dark magic! Which the rest of the Morauders were not willing to use, no matter what, even betrayal.

A few points (and questions): 1. Were they still going by the name "The Marauders" after they left Hogwarts?, and even so the group was definitely no more after Pettigrew's betrayal and James' death. Therefore I don't think it's fair for there to be any comparison of them after that point. - Pettigrew and Lupin continued living and learning and increasing their power, yet James and Sirius (being in Azkaban) had no such opportunities. 2. The hierarchy of the group should be considered in determining the power levels and talent. Which would indicate that either James or Sirius was most powerful. 3. Remember that it is explicitly stated by both McGonagall and Sirius that Pettigrew had little magical talent. He was best at aligning himself to those who were more powerful than he was and then riding to success on their coattails. 4. Bear in mind how talented and powerful Snape was (even at school) and James especially used to bully effortlessly as though he was nothing more than a squib or a muggle. 5. James (and Lily) faced off with Voldemort three times (I think) and survived. 6. Even though Neville was a clear option, Voldemort considered James Potter's son to be the one more likely to be a threat to him. I think that during those times they came up against each other Voldemort recognized how powerful James was. And probably thought that if the father was so powerful then the son could probably come to be on a level even greater than even himself, and that's why he went after Harry.... Even though the pureblood option was there to choose from. Even though he held the belief of "Pureblood Superiority".

Peter was just more deceptive than the others, doesn't make him the most powerful, nor does having more knowledge of the dark arts. Hell Lupin taught the very subject of how to defend against it. James, Sirius, and Lupin were all killed some of the best and most powerful wizards of that time. Other than the dark arts there's no evidence that shows that the other marauders couldn't do the same thing and on a higher level.

It is hard to compare the marauders because James died at twenty one, Sirius was imprisoned at twenty one. Remus was hampered by his werewolf condition and even Peter spent much of his time.as Scanners. Peter had the advantage that her learned from the most powerful wizard.- Lord Voldemort. It seems that as wizards go through life they tend to keep adding to their abilities. James was only four years out of Hogwarts when he lost his life at twenty one. At this age Sirius Black was imprisoned at Azkaban. Not only was there not trial there was no interrogation from the accounts I've read.

Wormtail immediately defected when some death eaters threatened him, he didn't even face Voldemort until he became his servant. My personal rankings would be 4) James 3) Peter 2) Sirius 1) Lupin We never really get to see much of what James does. We’re told he’s near the top of his class, and was in the quidditch team, but we don’t see anything he does. He dies before getting to learn and experience much. There is a comment left by Harry Potter Theory that says why Pettigrew was actually kind of strong. He’s described as “only being strong by hiding behind others” in his school years, but later on, he becomes more powerful. It’s pretty obvious that Sirius is strong. He survives Azkaban, and is an animagus. Even though Sirius is strong, I think Lupin is stronger. He has a very wide range of knowledge and skills. His range is a lot wider than what we see from Sirius. He is shown to be a very good teacher, which suggests he has a deep understanding of his subject, as well as an understanding of his students, and what level they are at. He tries to make lessons enjoyable, which makes them more memorable.

I wouldn't rank Pettigrew was the strongest, he just had the longest time to grow. Mostly by betraying or cowering before his friends or allies. He just had more luck. Not necessarily good luck, but luck regardless. Serious, even with his time imprisoned, could have out fought him. Just look at how wormtail hides and cowers before him when he's finally reverted to his human form, and even before that. He knew serious was coming for him, and so was trying to run as far away as he could get. Because he knew if had been matched against him, hed likely die. If it wasn't for Bella's cheap shot, I imagine he'd have far surpassed Pettigrew early on.

I think Peter Pettigrew was indeed a powerful wizard, who was magically gifted and had a lot of potentional but all this potentional was initially buried beneath a severe lack of confidence and later corrupted under the influence of Voldemort... During his school days, he was looked down upon by everyone, his teachers, other students and even his friends never thought he would amount to anything and especially Sirius was quite to point this out. Under the influence of Voldemort, his true power was ready to shine through, with all the desastrous results that started the series. If they had recognized earlier that he was "weak" because of his lack of confidence and if this friends had treated him a bit better, he might not just have been in their league when it came to power, he might never gone to the dark side. While it is easy to mistake his motivation as a drive to power, if we let go of any subjectivity and just at the facts, it is far more likely that he wanted recognition and be treated as a equal. When he was working under Snape, he said as much. He was there to assist, not to be a slave. In many regards, Peter Pettigrew is the dark reflection of Neville Longbottom, both shy wizards in their youth, fearful of others and looked down upon by others but unlike Peter, Neville was far more respected by his friends. Harry, Hermione and Ron alone already tried to boost his moral, whenever they could, taught him to stand up for himself and for what he believed and over the years, he came out of his shell and even though he wielded a wand he never felt worthy off (always believing that he was lesser than his father), started to excel in defense against the Dark Arts after his parents' torturers escaped from Azkaban... Why, because his friends did believe in him and when he was given the same offer as Pettigrew by Voldemort, to join his ranks, Neville refused, both out of loyality to his parents but also out of loyality to his friends, to Dumbledore's Army. The Story of Pettigrew is an excellent example of why you have to be careful about how you treat people and especially your friends. While Pettigrew might always have had a hidden dark side and he eventually made his own dark choices, being constantly talked down to by everyone, did make the eventual choice a lot easier for him.

I also think that Lupin had the most experience in the field since Sirius went to Azkaban for so long. Pettigrew had the most knowledge and was the smartest in the group as well since he ended up in the best position and managed to completely outsmart Sirius and frame him. In the end, it comes down to which of them were able to live on and keep progressing as a wizard. I also think that a straight-up duel between Remus and Peter would be very even..

You bring up that he died early, but not that very important detail. I am not saying he could have defeated Tom, but that could have changed fate. But you're right, low danger does not equal no danger. They were chillin hard and got caught slippin. Does not change my point that they were wandless and I believe that detail negates James ' death as a reason for ranking him lower. If we are using that logic, I could argue that his death makes him the most powerful, since it was the most dangerous dark wizard of all time that killed and not some underling.

You’ve placed Peter at the top when he was clearly the weakest. As Sirius said when he and Lupin over powered him, he always sought more powerful people to protect him. To school it was James, Sirius and Remus, afterwards it was Voldemort. 1 on 1 Sirius and Lupin would both easily beat Peter. If Peter was truly more powerful he would not have been completely terrified when Sirius escaped to hunt him down. Surely if he were more powerful, he would have just faced him down given Sirius was weak from all his years in the slammer. The guy was a snivelling coward - even the death eaters thought so.

Sirius survived 12 years in the worst prison in the world and came out of it totally sane.... even after not being able to use magic for 12 years he was able to duel with the toughest wizards and only died because he was laughing. Gotta give the top spot to him for his mental stability in Azkaban along with his ability to keep up with the magic ability of his peers after 12 years with no practice!

I think it's Sirius. Even after being stuck in Azkaban he was able to duel with Dolohov, and Bellatrix. He was going toe to toe with Bellatrix, and in the book had he been focused on dueling with her instead of taunting her (as well as his unlucky placement next to the veil.) He may have even won against her. Bellatrix is Voldemorts #1 and was trained by Voldemort in the Dark Arts himself. I'm sorry, but Sirius would have absolutely smoked Peter in a duel, and it wouldn't be close.

James Potter is such a misunderstood character. Fans just hate on him and claim that he’s just an asshole that bullied Snape (which he was) but he grew out of it and became a good man. Not to mention he joined the Order of the Phoenix almost immediately after leaving hogwarts and died at age 21 protecting his wife and son. But people still say he’s just a bully and Snape is a tragic selfless hero. 🤦‍♂️⚡️

My issue with people saying "James didn't have his wand on him when Voldemort came" is that he forgot his wand. FORGOT. HIS. WAND. When he, his wife, and infant son went into hiding specifically because they were targets of Voldemort. If I were in his position, I would have used my pretty amazing talents in charms to, I don't know, affix my wand to my clothes/body until I grab ahold of it? It's the wizarding world, he should know better than to be caught without his wand, in a war, with a mass murderer hunting him and his family down. Plus, even disregarding James's lack of wand at the time, don't you think it would have been a smart idea to set up a bunch of lingering charms and/or hexes just in case something unexpected happened? Or use any one of the detecting charms we've seen the other characters use in the books and movies to see if/when he would be there, so that way they wouldn't be caught unawares? (or in James's case wandless) Also, why didn't Lily think of any of these things either? Isn't she supposed to be a very talented witch, even being in the Slug Club? ALSO, why didn't James try any wandless magic to, let's say, sling stuff from across the hall at Voldemort until he could find his wand? if Voldemort would want to recruit him, I'd imagine that he'd be able to at least do some decent magic without his wand as well. It's depressing, seeing how few things he did right when it came to protecting his family from a mass murderer, especially when he became an animagi at 15 just to keep his close friend company when he was in werewolf form. You can have all the magical prowess in the world, but in times of real duress, if you're a forgetful idiot and get your family killed then you aren't a skilled wizard. If that doesn't convince you, then picture any of the life-threatening situations that were detailed throughout the books, movies, and other forms of media but instead one of the characters forgot their wand. They would get slaughtered! I specifically would have gone so far as to put him on the bottom of the list for that night at Godric's Hollow.

I personally think the ranking could of gone either way but I had to point out that Remus was proficient in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Its been said through the series across all school years he was one of or the best DADA professor they had for a while. Even Madam Pomfrey was impressed with him saying he knows his stuff in DADA after giving the students chocolates after the Dementor attack. The other Marauders definitely beat him in Transfiguration.

As in the Snape-McGonagall video, you put a ton of emphasis on the dark arts. And while that might lead to being "powerful," those who don't turn to the dark arts who are able to hold their own are just as powerful and don't need to go dark to do it. Also, James and Sirius were able to become animagi much faster than Pettigrew. Pettigrew's dark arts ability might have given him abilities his friends didn't have, but I find it hard to believe that if he tried to duel Lupin or Sirius instead of running away like the rat he is, Lupin or Sirius would have easily defeated him. If I had to rank the four, I think Sirius-James-Remus-Pettigrew is the correct order.

!! my list, pettigrew is last because he hid behind others powers, although he discovered more dark arts than the others he was certainly less powerful. Then Sirius, because I think he didn’t care about his education as much, he was a order of the Phoenix, and was a good wizard however he was sent to azkaban which could’ve been the time he became a better wizard, however I do think he was a very impressive wizard and is loads better than pettigrew. Next, is James, he was a very skilled wizard however I think that why im putting him lower is because he died soonest, obviously it doesn’t matter that he died sooner he also had no defense to protect him as well, he was also an order of the Phoenix member I think that he had a very good education and that he was a good wizard overall. First is Lupin, he was very talented and focused a lot on studies I think he was a clever wizard that deserves first. Firstly he taught a 13 year old how to produce a very difficult spell that many adults can’t do, he is an order of the Phoenix member, and was very good at many stuff. He was a good duelist and I think that for having to deal with him being a werewolf, he was very good at magic, he also died last to a very good wizard. I definitely think Remus Deserves the top. ^i didn’t watch the video yet!^

POTTER - Main reason is cause he was never really explored on so the lack of info is actually really hard for me to rank, but i know he is an amazing duelist and a very good potions master. LUPIN - i put him over potter cause he is qualified enough to be a teacher ( dont get me wrong if james would have lived maybe he would be a teacher) but he showed greater feats than potter as well, he took on several death eaters and held his own in the battle of the depafrtment of mysteries and the battle of hogwarts. plus he can successfully cast a patronus charm. PETTIGREW - the thing that got him here is his cleverness and wits, he sucessfully tricked sirius, held his animagus form for 12 years. but that does not justify him for being in that spot. He got there because he was succesful in the dark arts, which is a very powerful form of magic, which also does not mean the most powerful. and he was a excuse of a man. SIRIUS BLACK - He can do what ever they can do (except for being werewolf). he may have been locked up for years but he is still very powerful. the fact that pettigrew fleed from sirius was another sign even pettigrew knew he was much more powerful. the potters even trusted him of where they were hiding cause they knew he was a accomplished occumence. he is smart and wise and can face numerous death eaters at the same time he was the first to break out of azkaban. And the only reason he died because it was cheap shot. agree to disagree that is just my opinion. im not forcing my opinion on anyone.

I dont think that pure Usage of the dark arts make you more powerful...Just compare a Duel of Dumbledore vs Voldemort, by default of your argument, Dumbledore should have a hard time winning against Voldemort, but he doesnt I rank it like this: 4th Place: Peter Pettigrew, he is a strong Wizard, but not comparable to the Others 3rd Place: Remus Lupin, a wise Wizard with numerous Capabilities, but not that kind of Duelist you would imagine 2nd Place: James Potter, Leader of the Pack, well rounded Magical Abilities 1st Place: Sirius Black, just by Far the best Duelist of them i would think, he could 1vs1 Bellatrix if not getting backstabbed Overall i think all 4 are pretty cool and i would love a series about them in the future
