Solid list but you can’t leave Rick Barry out of the top ten. He was one of the greatest scorers of all time and carried an ass team to a ring in 75. He also has the highest finals PPG in NBA history and should have won an MVP but the players (who voted back then) didn’t like him.

He was an asshole to his teammates and coaches and had a bad attitude. I realize that many of these list are done to provoke thought and get feedback. So I'm not too concerned about the listing order. However, the comments on Elgin Baylor not performing up to speed during the playoffs is totally untrue. Go back and do your homework. Elgin held the playoff record for points in a single game 61 against the Boston Celtics set back in 1962. MJ broke that record by 2 pts 25 yrs later, also against the Celtics. Whenever the Lakers went to the NBA Finals back then they had to face Boston who would be the ultimate winner. They were always hard fought and competitive series, and Elgin did his thing. His PPG during his career is 27 as is his playoff PPG. To me that's a picture of consistency.

In Doc's defense, when he got to the NBA (Philadelphia), he was not as dominant as he had been in the ABA because the Sixers at that time already had a bunch of superstar-types like George McGinnis, Lloyd (later World B.) Free, Darryl Dawkins, and Doug Collins, all of whom had to have the ball, and Doc, being the gentleman he was, willingly deferred to his teammates and Sixers management at that time, when he could easily have demanded to be the first option. After his first two seasons in Philadelphia, the Sixers finally started phasing out their more individualistic one-on-five types and acquiring more team-oriented players like Bobby Jones, Maurice Cheeks, Andrew Toney, and finally Moses to win a championship

What do you mean there's no middle ground with Scottie Pippen when you argued exactly why there is? Scottie was the second best player on six championship teams and should have led the Bulls to the conference finals in 1994 if not for a horrible call in Game 5, but he also wasn't a top 5 player in the league every year and wasn't great in the postseason for the second 3-peat due to taking on more defensive roles and getting more fouls due to MJ being a step slower defensively. The answer is LITERALLY somewhere in the middle. "No middle ground" here doesn't make any sense.

Pippen was indeed a top five player in the NBA while Jordan was playing baseball. Just look at his offensive stats alone when Jordan was gone. His efficiency. And of course his defense. He definitely had a problem with disappearing and had an attitude problem. Which is obviously revealed in Last Dance. But again when Jordan was gone Pippen was a top five player in the league and almost led the Bulls to the Conference Finals. They win game 7 against the Knicks and they probably go to the Finals. Basically the Bulls without Jordan were a contender and Pippen was a MVP candidate...

I don’t know where to put kawhai because of the injuries lately I would also not put Kevin Durant top three . He bought titles by joining the team that beat him while he had a 3-1 lead with Oklahoma. That isn’t top three material.

I watched both Bird and James thru their careers and couldn't disagree more. Bird plays in James powder puff Era you could add 5 years to his career and no telling how much offense he could have added. Where you had Baylor I would put Big E. But this is all subjective

People forget that “The Doctor,” Julius Erving, was not as dominant in the NBA as he was in the ABA because he was less relied on when he was in the NBA. "The Doctor" was the whole ABA at the time, in fact, he was regarded as the best player in the world at that time in which his stardom had a lot to do with the ABA-NBA merger. Also, "The Doctor's" playing time was reduced by an average of 10-15 minutes in the NBA which is considered as quite significant by professional basketball standards. Therefore, let's get the record straight, it's no mystery that the NBA utilized Julius Erving in a much different capacity than the ABA. Reason being, there were other stars in the NBA that rivaled "The Doctor's" talent in his generation. When he was in the ABA, no one in that basketball league could rival his talent, big difference. 'Nuff said!!!!!!!

Obviously the lack of a championship is a big reason why he’s not up here, but his skill/ability is something scary and stacks up well against most everyone on this list. @@YungMustard The 60s were not a weak era. Dribbling rules were different so you didn’t see players with insane handles like you do today. Dunking on people was seen as disrespectful back in the day and you didn’t see players doing it. The main thing is that since there were so few teams, teams would play each other far more than they do today. Wilt and Russell would play each other up to 16 times during the regular season, not to mention if it wasn’t one of them, you’d be seeing West and Baylor, Reed and Frazier, and Thurmond and Barry nearly half of the season.

Elgin Baylor. He should have delayed his retirement until the END of the 1972 NBA Finals. That ring was his! 😖 I was young enough to remember John Havlicek. Dr J was on the decline when he played in the Sixers. Accurate on rating Larry Legend Bird + Lebron James! 🏀

Bird didn't even win the MVP on his 50/40/90 seasons, just showing how great some of the other MVP's that edged him out those seasons were that were Magic and MJ.. Peak I give Bird a slight edge, career I give Lebron the advantage as he played much longer at a high level than Bird ever did.
@hepwo912223 жыл бұрын
@Pallani not rebounding, defense, or shooting. Passing and defense is about even. Lebron is better finishing at the hoop. Peak Bird was superior to Lebron, but Lebron had a much longer career at a sustained level of greatness.
@hepwo912223 жыл бұрын
@Pallani Bird was a WAAAAAY better rebounder than Lebron, not close. Bird average 10 rebounds for his career! As a jumpshooter! Defense is even, Lebron has been a slacker as a defender as he has gotten into his 30's, but in his peak, he was about even with BIrd, Bird was I believe second team all defense 3 times. Passing, Lebron has an edge in assists per game, but a bit misleading as Lebron handles the ball more, about as much as a PG, Bird did not take the mantle in trying to be a "point forward". I can concende Lebron clearly was better at driving to the hoop and finishing and also longevity which is huge. But everything else is either even or, I would take Bird. But I agree, they are the best two SF's ever.

Actually, Doc and Pistol DID play together in Atlanta, for three preseason games in 1972. Doc tried to jump from the ABA to the NBA that year before a judge ruled that he had to return to the Virginia Squires, who always had financial problems. The Squires traded him to the New York (now Brooklyn) Nets the next year, whom he led to two ABA championships.
