I am an Oral Surgeon. The "business" of dentistry is not different. Started off as a "profession" and due to advertising and greed; has changed to be more of a "retail" type of environment. Fortunately, I have always viewed it as a profession and treat my patients accordingly. "Value" of my service is more important than price. Greed within my industry has only led to poor quality of care. Likewise, I seek auto dealerships who uphold similar values. They are out there, just harder to find. Keep up the good work.

Exactly the same response I've had. There is ONE who has followed up with specific answers; and made one follow up with me (after several requests for an "out the door" price).. Meanwhile, the others all just hounded me by email for my phone number or when could I come in. One got my number somehow, has called me every day despite me saying I was no longer interested...and is four states away not making a deal at all, finally blocked the number.

In this current time with the national shut down and stay at home because of the virus it just goes to show people that dealerships don’t loose money. The dealerships in my state of NJ aren’t in no hurry to sell their vehicles so that is proof enough when they cry the old sob story that their loosing money on a deal. If they were loosing money they would show more motivation in trying to make a deal. The HomeWorkGuy explained it better in his video.

Exactly what I went thru this week. Saw a car I wanted. Contacted salesperson online. He barely answered my simple question. When I asked if car can be test driven, the response was "no". Nothing else, just "No". He offered no further info it was like pulling teeth. I then asked him what the car buying process was. Now he had to give me more than a yes/no answer. When I restated my understanding of the info he gave me he responded "yes". That's it. No further input from him like was I interested or did I have any further questions for him. I waited a day thinking he'd get back in contact with me since I showed an interest and nothing. I really did want this car so I contacted him again and I took the lead and said "Let's move forward with this process". He responded "Oh, the car has been sold". I was mad at myself for allowing him to give me a one word response. I should have been more aggressive or asked to speak to someone who actually wants to sell a car. PS: I wasn't trading anything in and he didn't need to worry about financing, I was ready to pay and go.

I had the same experience the salesman was dry as a dusty trail.. I actually was prepare to leave a deposit because I really wanted the vehicle and he said he couldn't take a deposit.. @enligh10ed84 жыл бұрын
That was our experience also. We were paying cash, but as you know, you're not supposed to let them know that right away. Well, when they know you're not financing or trading in a vehicle, they realize that their profit just went from 8% to maybe 2% and they become very unmotivated to work a deal. Pathetic!

Sticker price was higher than internet price and I already had financing through my Credit Union. Salesman brought us in side and tried to take Credit info. I told him already had financing and just wanted Purchase Order to take to Credit Union. He told my they work with credit unions-LIE! I told him if you don't want to sell car we will go to Budget Car sales, they have many cars to sell. We walked out and left!! Came back after calling my credit union and found out there is no connection with credit union. Came back next day, different salesman and told him If you are selling cars, I have credit already, and finally did get this car. I know they wanted to get a loan from me, most likely they were not happy, but in the end got my car.

Change is hard! Saturn did the price is the price thing back in the day. Since they aren’t around anymore, guess it didn’t take. Right now I think the consumer is so jaded thinking they have to be ready to do battle any time they step into a dealership they are a little off guard when treated with transparency. And still push back thinking something is off. Negotiated several car deals in recent years for myself and my family. When I find the guy being responsive, up front and quick to the bottom line, that is who I work with. I purposely avoid the guys that require me to come in to answer my pricing questions. They always think they can convince me with salesmanship once they get me there. We could all save a lot of time.

I have responded to ads from dealerships just to see if they have the car in stock - and no reply. One major national used car corporate chair advertised a car and would not tell me they had the car until I gave them my phone number. I did not give them that - and they never really had the car. Even before the pandemic 4 major franchise dealers would start out sounding helpful then change the terms of the deal as we went along. I was straight up with them the entire time but they all kept changing the deal. Fortunately, most of the time, I have not experienced that with dealerships.

The more I watch the less I want a car, in this economy or not. It simply doesn’t bring out the excitement of a new purchase, dealerships made it that bad. Buying a car should be a stepping stone in life, an exciting one. Now we buy out of necessity, which I guess is the best thing to do, but it does spoil the excitement completely

That's what happened to me. I'd like a camping vehicle for some summer national park trips. No critical need for a vehicle but have the income and debt free position to add something. Thought we could help the economy and buy a vehicle. Rather than watch dealers beg for government bailouts, lets sell cars! Never mind that. The Jeep dealers I've talked with think nothing is wrong. Sellers market. I'll wait a few months and pick up a late model low mileage with the collapse of the used market and all the coming repos.

I hope they all crash and burn tbh this is an outdated selling model all together

9:20 Ray talks about "Value". Your absolutely correct, but we as the consumer have allowed dealers to win too many times. Prices and financing have ballooned as a result of undisciplined customers. We fail to walk away because our love of the vehicle, our need to impress or our desire to buy happiness out weighs our efforts to be fiscally responsible. We, as a whole, have allowed auto sales companies to be successful with non-customer friendly tactics.

Like your video. Sad to say that there are game players here in Mississippi. Places are just now opening up some and sales people want to sell cars. Have relative who works for car dealership and he has been instructed by car manager never to give a price over the phone or internet except the MSRP less $500. There are too many variables such as trade in, rebates, and options on cars to quote any other price. They need customer to come in on lot where they will drive the car to them they are interested in to look at from comfort of their car. Need to maintain social distancing. They will work deal by phone at dealership. Was asked if they can work deal by phone when on car lot--why not now by phone or email. Response if you come to car lot you are serious buyer and not just shopping around. Sounds like same story just want you to come in in person to make that deal.

I totally agree. It is complete BS the internet lead process. You ask specific questions and you get a standard formatted email back! Usually have to ask several times before you get a response to your questions, and even then the response is half ass. And yes, along with the half ass response, you get the when can you come in, I have these times available! Heck, if they answer the question, maybe no need to come in and waste everybodies time! But, I get it, they want to get you in the door, so they can play the dealer games. If they only realized the more convenient they make the customer, or the customer is comfortable with them, the more likely they make the sale! I am no young man, and I can honestly say, having bought a ton of vehicles, I have bought a vehicle because I like the salesman and how I was treated by management, even when it was not the best deal, but was close! And the car industry wonder why they have the reputation they have. Most are insincere, liars, cheat and have no morals or ethics. To the small majority of honest, sincere dealers thank you and I wish I could find you. Great video, you speak the truth!
@heavyW8champ4 жыл бұрын
Ray, I love the videos and the point of view from years of experience. Have you considered the possibility that these dealerships, which were supposedly closed, in fact have been operating as essentially open with greatly reduced staff, and are already overrun with demand, and therefore cannot or do not care to respond to internet leads when they know they are going to be pitted against other dealerships to sell cars behind invoice if the lead ever bears fruit? I am in another state, but I am in the business and have worked straight through the pandemic, and this is what is happening. We "closed", but never closed. Just come in through service...
@CarEdge4 жыл бұрын
If you can't answer a lead due to staff furloughs or you won't answer leads because you don't want to be in a race to the bottom, then you should stop kidding yourself and be closed until you can properly handle an internet lead. Leads are essential to any business and there is never a really good reason to ever ignore someone who could potentially do business with you. Even if the response is we are short staffed and we apologize for the delay in getting back to you, that is certainly better than no response at all. One says we care but are overwhelmed and the other says we don't give a shit about you. It is a choice made by the dealership; I'm just suggesting that they should make the right one.

What if someone if I have 8,000 cash on a 30,000 dollar vehicle which is 20% down. Do I qualify? Although I had a previous repo 5 years ago.

Go to a credit union and see if you prequalify for a car loan

What about dealers working with commission vs non commission dealers?

Can you cover the ins and outs of leases? You’ve done ones on getting out. What about getting in.

Had a Jeep dealer buffalo me two weeks ago by treating my online inquiry as an opportunity to gaslight. Acted as if Jeep Wrangler demand has never been stronger. Don't expect to deal I was told, other than considering three year 0% APR. "You should expect to pay MSRP for a Rubicon because they're so highly demanded. There's almost no inventory available." Don't gaslight especially when the consumers in this current market are likely to be folks with the money and the information.

Ok help me out here. I test drive a new Honda CR-V touring that’s fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. The original sticker price was $35,300 but I inquired about the cheaper online pricing of $33,924 saving $1,946. Additionally, I just graduated from college so I was offered the $500 which works as a down payment, that brings me to $33,424. Still with me? I went further and inquired about the Honda loyalty credit of $1000 which brought my sale price to $32,424 but I settled at $32,500, i really wanted it at $3200.00 but they were hesitant. So the only thing stopping me now is if I get approved for the 1.9% interest rate for 60 months or 5 years and I pull the trigger and sign. So given this information, what is your analysis? Is this a good deal or no? should I wait and see what the next couple months brings economically?

That's a hell of a price if you ask me. When we bought my wife's RAV they didn't give us the rebates and the interest deal so be prepared for that, and for the hard sells on warranty etc. I live in MD but the price seems good to me.

Erik Avant thanks man. I’m in Indiana and just graduated with some college debt so I had to negotiate the price as low as I can. If I get approved, I’m thinking of trying to negotiate lower on the price. I don’t think they would want to have a deal so close only to lose out due to $500. Still I wasn’t sure if I was getting a good deal or not but it seems to be so.

Carlos my experience with Honda Finance is that they will approve recent college graduates for their best rates assuming that there is nothing negative on their credit report. So if that is the case for you, you should qualify for the 1.9%. If I were to guess, there is probably around $2500 built into the car from invoice to MSRP and it seems to me that you have gotten most of it, but it never hurts to ask for more, just remember they have a lot less to give up now. Good luck.

Yorkiepoocharlie exactly! I was looking toward the hybrid but those are scarce so I negotiated on a gas hybrid. I’m waiting on the approval and if it goes through then I putting that dealer against others. The salesman said more than he needed to with hybrids being discounted in about 7 months or so. My timeframe for purchasing is 13 months so plenty of time to see how the market goes.
