I gets under my skin when guys consider "girly" and "degenerate" to be basically interchangeable. Who do they think wrote these shows? How dumb you gotta be to think sneering at art takes more maturity than making it?

Thanks for the rant digi! As a young kid I liked sailor moon and powerpuff girls and was often made fun of for it. Eventually accepted that it's pretty normal to like that kind of stuff. It's frustrating sometimes when people are so set in their ways that they won't try something new, but you're right that it's important to let them make that choice themselves.

As someone who grew up with two younger sisters who were close to my age, I've always been surrounded with feminine/cute things. It's never really been an issue for me, except the occasional odd look. From Disney Princesses to various anime, I've always liked cute girl shit. Hell, the first two anime I grew up with (after Pokemon) was Sailor Moon and Hamtaro! That being said, immediately after, I got into Dragon Ball, InuYasha, and Yu-Gi-Oh! #90skid

I think writing off to try out new things will just inconvenience you in life over time. So with everything, I will let people go on it with their own pace. They will eventually get bored by burning through the same shit. It's just a maturity thing. Even if you come to not like certain things, when you've actually tried them, you can figure out what you dislike about them. Worst are people that can't tell you any details on why they dislike things, they seem mindless, lol.

I actually sort of started with more slice of life-y type shows then transitioned to more action based shows. I mean, the first 3 anime I watched were “Kirby: right back at ya!” and Sonic X as a kid then Bleach in high school(even though that was before my time, long story). But after that, I watched Squid girl, Dragon maid, Haruhi Suzumiya, little witch academia, etc. Nowadays, I primarily watch action series and barely watch slice of life stuff anymore, which is kinda the opposite of what most people seem to have done.

the conclusion I came to with "cute girl shows" was it wasn't something I was ever going to seek out but I would join my sister watching it if she ever asked me to.

i remember never caring about sailor moon as a child (i loved the opening and the designs of the heroines) but it wasn't because it was girly but rather repetitive, but back then i never saw something as "this is for girls" or "this is for men", my favorite shows as a child were ranma 1/2 (a shoujo) and sakura card captor, there is also the super powerpuff girls and i only watched teen titans for raven and starfire. i don't care if something is "girly" as long as it is fun, i love little witch academia as much as i love fist of the north star.
@Slysoft_5 жыл бұрын
I agree with a lot of what you said but ranma 1/2 is not a shoujo anime. It has all the things that define shounen action but with a generally more interesting cast of characters (in my opinion).
@slifer8755 жыл бұрын
@@Slysoft_ well not only the author is female but it also (kinda) has a female tomboy protagonist that is chase from time to time betwen many males, the series is mostly about romance but its also a parody on japanese romance in general. there is also the art that is more close to shoujo than shonen, i don't remember where i read that ranma is shoujo, but i feel that it is some sort of weird mixture betwen shoujo and shounen.
@Slysoft_5 жыл бұрын
I just think you confuse having a female main character and having romance as being shoujo.
@slifer8755 жыл бұрын
@@Slysoft_ i get what you mean but where do you think inuyahsa (by the same author) falls into? i always felt like i was watching something closer to sailor moon than dragon ball when i watch that show, i don't think her works can be seen as 100% shonen.
@Slysoft_5 жыл бұрын
I don't think they can be defined by a single genre either but to answer your question, inuyasha was featured in the weekly shounen sunday magazine so I would say at least the publisher think that's where it falls.

I've long done away with judging anime by genre or anything as most shows bore me. These days I just watch the occasional seasonal show (if I actually like it I just switch to the manga if it has one) or watch along with my friends who are new to anime

I don't think convincing people is really necessary. If they possess a shred of curiosity, they will try things out by themselves. I watched Clannad and other works like it specifically to feed my emotional side - and it helped. I'll search out views opposite my own to figure out why they are held. Nobody told me to do that. Certainly, nobody asked me to question everything including their teachings. It's just a natural tendency some people have.

I like your way of thinking, also in my case I love anime for the stuff you talked about, how it comes to resonate to me so much compared to other type of media and how it helps me understand myself and the world around me better. Like, I also love girly stuff specially in anime, and early in my life just accepted that even being a heterossexual man I also have a feminin side who likes feminity, even if I don't show it almost never to other people.

Watching anime that isn't cute girl shows would be going outside of my comfort zone for me but I definitely always try to watch a few that are something different. Its nice to mix it up a bit too. I actually have very little interest in the superhero genre but a show like My Hero Academia is so well done that I very much enjoyed it anyway. Even though I have no interest in those types of shows. I find action anime repetitive where I basically zone out during long fight scenes. It kind of all blends to me. Anime with non stop and long drawn out fight scenes that are all over the place with a story that's complicated and difficult to follow is basically my worst nightmare in anime.

the only reason I don't like cute girl shows is cause that is all there is to those shows but shojo itself I have no problem with I grew up watching Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura and then when I got older I enjoyed Shugo Chara and Utena and I personally love K-on to death but after that the anime industry started pumping out shows in that same vein but worse I would encourage all people to try new things to truly see what you do like don't box yourself in

I am going out of my way to watch the Monogatari series right now because I'd always heard it was great. I like, but I can't see why it's great. Except if you love fanservice or something (I really don't) So far I’m able to look past it and enjoy the show despite its fan-service, but I still feel like I'm missing something. I do love the weirdness and uniqueness of it though. But that doesn't elevate it to one of the greats to me. About me: I'm a straight girl the shows I enjoyed the most recently were Ergo Proxy, Shinsekai Yori, Wolf’s Rain and Psycho-Pass. I'm currently watching Mob Psycho and Dororo. But I also like a lot of 'dumber' shounen stuff like Seven Deadly Sins for example.
@oshinoedan56665 жыл бұрын
Monogatari is tied with Aria for my favorite show. I started to love it in the second season, but it became my favorite in Owari part 1. I didn't give Bake a 10 till my second viewing. A good amount of the fanservice is important to the story, there is definitely a good amount that isn't though. Here's is a good break down of why Monogatari fan service is often good for the story if intrested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hne0kmaafdF7ick&t= . For some reason it has usually been easy for me to look past fanservice as long as it's a good show still; some fan service is really toxic though, and I can understand why it in general can be a turn off for people. Hope you enjoy the show! :) I've been LOVING Gintama IMO Best shounen ever.

@Please Complete All Fields Moe depends on the Kanji. "Moeru" is said in the Gundam opening from 1979, it has a different kanji than the one that's usually used with cute.
@meff8415 жыл бұрын
Please Complete All Fields I heard it’s supposed to mean a burning feeling of affection and protectiveness towards a character. It’s technically subjective and dependent on who you are as a person, but most people feel affection and protectiveness towards cute girls so that’s what it’s been culturally equated to. Personally, I feel more feelings of protectiveness towards Guts than say Mio tho.
