Always love the rapid-fire roundup. Love it when you guys overlap or share reviews of older stuff that you’ve only recently played. AND when you update your reviews for when you feel the game improves (or declines) after initial impression. Cheers.

Terraria: The Board Game is being made by the same people who made Senjutsu: Battle For Japan. Lots of drama as they haven't been honest and opened up a new company for the Terraria KS campaign to obfuscate their identity.

Oh, man I like Senjutsu a LOT. I will concede the rule book isn't great, though I didn't feel like it was quite as bad as you described. And the two different boards not fitting together is just unbelievable. 😂 But I just love the gameplay. It feels like playing the PS1 classic Bushido Blade as a board game, and much like in Bushido blade, it's a slower, more deliberate style of game. I understand why players feel like everything is random and there's nothing they can do, but I feel like that goes away if you think about the game as one where you simply won't be able to attack it whenever you feel like it. You have to bide your time, dodging and positioning as best you can, until the moment to strike hits. It's definitely a game that benefits from repeated plays, but I find it wildly satisfying, both solo and multiplayer. While there was a lot of drama around the Kickstarter delivery, for anyone picking this up at retail, I think there's a solid game here if you know what you're getting into. It's not an action packed slug test you can just do almost whatever you want at almost any time. It's slower and more deliberate, and it requires more patience and set up. Yet even so, most games will probably only run 15 to 30 minutes, which honestly feels impressive given the nature of the game.

You're looking for the term "ludonarrative" coherence/concordance
@thedicetower6 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's a great point. I've always heard that discussed in video games but it works here as well! Meadow, for example, has strong ludonarrative coherence.

I don’t see what’s wrong with adding a little bit of humor to The Dice Tower. We need more channels to be fun and expressive.

It's a riff on a famous, weird Shia LaBeouf video as a joke. I always do a dumb skit at the start if these. 30 seconds in is a normal video.
