@@Bo11JanglesIt is made in the spirit of OG MTG, so that is likely. MTG consists of many thousands of cards, and dozens of keywords. They are both similar in style, so that makes sense.

Sorcery is such a masterful game. The Alpha edition is currently being shipped and should be arriving in the hands of Kickstarter backers within a month.

@@goon3310 For me of the things I like about it it's the flavor first. I'm a sucker for thematic cards, and this game is full of that. And second would be the fun things that can happen during a match. Like frogs operating a ballista. Or the grim reaper screwing over someone's own plan. Lending to that is the artifact cardtype that can easily end up used against yourself. Cards that can end up hurting yourself are awesome and are my third thing I really like about it. Fourth for me is that the cards generally use small amounts of text to do their thing, as opposed to cards in mtg and fab that sometimes use absurd amounts of text. Fifth would be the mana system... Not that it's super special, but almost any resource system designed after mtg works a lot better than the one in mtg. (With the caveat that I like the feel of tapping lands, which you don't do in Sorcery. I will personally use mana tokens cause I'm a sucker for tactile joy in physical games.) Ok because that was not that special, my actual fifth would be that the simple grid system does add some new fun decisions. I haven't been super impressed with the burrow/submerge abilities, but I have been impressed how sites can really impact the way the games unfold. From being forced to play a site to prevent mana issues, to warding off or avoiding whole areas because they could explode. There are some things I'm not completely sold on: The amount of luck involved (card draws, situational cards) seems high. And due to its pretty wild nature, everyone is bound to get some rules wrong that can impact the enjoyment of the game. Also you can end up with a lot of cards per location, so be sure to reserve plenty of space per location.

As someone who doesn't play trading card games, I have to admit that Sorcery looks much more interesting to me than MtG. I used to play MtG Arena a bit and I think Sorcery's cards just look better and more mature. Maybe it's just me, but this tcg reminds me of the good old Heroes of Might and Magic 3.

Duuude, I never made the correlation, I agree. Homm3 themed sorcery set would be amazing. Gnolls, gremlins, troglodytes dracolichs etc.

@@BludRayp That would be something man. But they would need a brand license from Ubisoft. I don't know if you know, but Heroes of Might & Magic III The Board Game is coming out next year. The game is made in many languages ​​by a Polish studio of enthusiasts in cooperation with Ubisoft. There are no bigger fans of HoMM3 than Polish people, believe me, I know something about it. They have their own Kickstarter. There's also a HoMM-inspired PC game called Songs of Conquest. The full version of the game will be released early next year. Pretty cool game, check it out.

Great video! I would add that an Avatar cannot gain life or be healed from Death's Door, because this would make a card that heals you every turn (like Angel's Egg) too over powered.

Looks very neat, going to try it once it hits retail. Can't get all those 'too high complexity' complaints, those people probably never played anything other than hearthstone or (very basic) MTG. Average paper TCG/LCG is way more complex than couple of possible actions on a grid.

Hmm, 10 minutes to explain the basic rules of the game vs. 5 minutes for Magic the Gathering. I have my Master's and a board certification in behavior analysis, but these rules are convoluted and tedious. I got two booster boxes and starter decks, but can already see I will never be playing this. I'll probably get a couple beta boxes in order to enjoy the artwork in a binder. After the beta boxes drop to $100 or less...

So this is essentially a reskinned Magic clone... as I game designer I shake my head. I had struggled to find a way to create a game that differed from Magic enough that it wasn't called a cloned. Instead my game was called a more cerebral variation. What this boils down to is the old adage: if it ain't broke, why fix it. In other words, if one is going to make a TCG, do something much, much different from Magic. Don't have "artifacts, creatures, "spells" and "enchantments." And if you do, vary it enough that you make it your own. There's a reason why Path of Exile is different enough from Diablo that it has it's own crowd and not called a clone. Why Diablo isn't called a Gauntlet clone. Sorry to go against the grain of the audience here. Not being the devil's advocate just to be different. When I saw TCGPlayer advertising it I had high hopes. But hearing the same old song and dance just let me down. I know, that's fine, one less patron of the game isn't to change anything. But I just the urge to say my reaction opposed to be tight lipped. And I'd rather not say nothing at all.

Sorcery doesn't have enchantments. Mtg doesn't have the monopoly on generic fantasy terms. Your arguments are quite poor for a game designer.

Complicated, clunky and too much like a board game. You could tell she was struggling to read this off of a monitor or something. It seems like this might do well with collectors but the players are going to be SOL. Add to that only one set of year and the balance of the game is going to suffer.

I'm going to say the quiet part out loud here: this game looks boring, the art isn't all that special, and could they seriously not get creative and had to steal terms like mana, tap, etc? I got halfway through this video and there were so many do this for this, but do that for that moments it's mind boggling. The first turn should just allow players to start with a location in their avatar and not use up a turn (start with four in hand). The art, meh, everyone seems to rave about it, but to me it's all fanboy hype. Everyone's excited because it's hand painted. Ok, cool, and? Tap? Mana? Come on, get original, or use the industry accepted terms like exhaust. I'm honestly glad I missed the Kickstarter at this point.
