I've always wondered about the lip sync aspect. Dan has a podcast with another couple guys called Bro Science. I superchatted to ask him. Basically he records the song in his studio(his garage), he then re sings/performs the song where he films (different part of his property) and links them together. So it's kinda difficult to answer, he both is and isn't lip syncing, what your hearing is him sing in studio but what your watching is him sing live. This allows high quality recording while also having an authentic performance, I think it's awesome because you can learn a lot about singing simply from watching Dan since he is actually singing in the video and it's not just simply miming like most music videos.

He used to sing life, but since he mooved his filmingspace to his garage, it is to much reverb there for recording. So now he records it in his studio and films three times in his garage, stil singing real, but not using this recording because of the reverb. His filming always is three agles, three times with the same camara. That is what he explained when he was an BroSience with Fear the Beardo.

If you see Dan Vasc singing, he's actually singing. Dan is a phenomenal singer/ performer. Although his emphasis is metal, he can and does sing in many genres. First off let me say that Dan does not lip sync. He produces he music in his studio which in his garage. Does all the arranging and mixing himself. He is from Brazil and can sing any genre from opera, show tunes, ballads, but home base lies in metal. Dan has a catalog of 245+ videos and last year he reached 1 million subscribers on his KZbin channel. A young Dan singing "Dream On" He also dedicated the "Elvis Trilogy " To his Father who passed 6-7 years ago of cancer. He shares a picture of his Father and him at the end. The harmonica he plays in "Amazing Grace" his father gifed him when he was 7. Dan is a very humble man. He has in his covers documented his growth starting around 2009. He dedicates and shares his suicide prevention in his channel he sings" Don't Give Up, You Are Loved", shares a heart felt comment on a cover Chester did. Honestly, I don’t know which one is correct, so I just go by his video on the subject. It was recently, that he said he used one camera and Beardo said he needed to get more.

This was the best version of this classic hymn that I have ever heard. Dan is a Brazilian metal singer who has the skills to sing almost every genre of music. A great example is his cover of Bring Me to Life by Evanescence. Another impressive cover is My Heart Will Go On, the theme song of the Titanic movie by Celine Dione. Amazing Grace introduced me and many others to Dan Vasc (Daniel Vasconcelos) and is still my favorite version of that hymn. Dan's Brazilian, he's been classically trained for years, does his work in his home (garage for videos... no lip sincing, btw), has his own band called Fearless (comprised of his youbger brother named Davi & 2 childhood friends from church, Gabriel Belozi on guitar and Giovanni Resende on drums), and he can sing just about anything from opera & musicals to power/symphonic metal. Dan does "upgrades" to songs along with original work. He's also quite funny. Love his voice & personality. Once you start down the Dan Vasc catalog, it's not easy to pause. Some suggestions: I'll Make a Man Out of You (metal version), Kiss From a Rose (metal duet with fellow Brazilian Violet Orlandi & Victor the GuitarNerd), Nessun Dorma (opera Dan), his collaboration with John Schlitt and John Lawry of Petra doing Beyond Belief, Dawn of Victory (Rhapsody song featuring original front man for Rhapsody, Fabio Lione, and Dan's band, Fearless), any of Dan's Phantom of the Opera covers (especially Music of the Night), any of Dan's Witcher covers (bard songs converted to metal that are better than the original versions), any of Dan's Iron Maiden covers (especially Number of the Beast), his Dragonforce, Nightwish, & Sabaton covers, and soooo many more. He is actually singing in the video but that is not the vocal you are hearing. The actual vocal you are hearing is recorded in his sound proof studio. The video is recorded minus the sound. He has to do several takes of the video recording to get all those camera angles as the area in his garage does not really allow for multiple cameras. so if you see 4 different camera angles that is 4 times he is singing the song. He then mixes and splices everything together himself. 90% of the time if you hear background vocals it is always him as well. I think I read somewhere that for the Handels Messiah video he had done over 100 takes. That’s a lot of commitment. And singing. If you pay attention you can usually see his hair position changes from one split to another. You can also see his throat moving, lips positioning, tongue moving etc. showing you he is actually singing and not miming. It’s the only way the video can look so real because it is. It’s just not done in one take.

Dan's channel spans over a decade so it depends on what song you pick in Dan's technical timeline. His first video (an audition submission) was live vocals to boombox music. As he could afford more and more sophistication upgrades in both studio and software, Dan uses them to produce the most technically perfect recordings possible.

Dan prerecordes in his inside studio then goes to his video studio and does his video which he sings with, but that is subdued. He has one camera that he has to move around to get the different views. Not an easy thing. He goes all in on his videos. He is a big fan of Manowar, listen to Heart of Steel and Black wind fire and steel to see his breath control. This rabbit hole is deep and varied, enjoy finding the many, many, faces of our Dan.

On the question about whether Dan is lip synching - just watch his throatmuscles, his larynx, and his tongue - you'll see his vibrato working in these places. Vibrato cannot be created in these muscles, unless you're actually singing. So that's your dead giveaway, whether someone is lipsynching or not. Dan has explained his process of recording very clearly - he records the audio first in his studio in his house, and then he records several different takes with up to 3 cameras in his garage afterwards - where he simply repeats everything he did in the studio - but still recording. After all that, he edits the videos. So no, he's not lip synching, he's in fact singing live, even though he's using the audio from the studio for the finished video - because, as he says - the audio he records in his garage is not as good, both because of the reverb from the room he's in, and because of too much noice from the street gets on the recording. So you could say it's pre-recorded in a way, but what you see in the videos is him singing live. Hope that answers your question. Either way, you seem pretty preoccupied with whether Dan is lip synching or not - well, just because you do it yourself, and a lot of artists do it (I'm from the 70's so I've seen loads of playback lipsynching in my time), that doesn't mean everybody is doing it. Once you get to know Dan's work, you'll find out, that he sets an incredibly high standard for himself, and has very high demands for the quality of the music he puts out. Actually, i also remember having seen your reaction before, and i remember commenting and explaining the same back then - a long time ago - so i guess this is just an old reaction you have reposted?

Nope. He's actually singing it. It's just live takes from different angles since he only had one camera. Then he synchs up the audio recorded in his smaller studio with the different takes. So not lip synching but kinda.

There’s a certain face that all musicians get when they play/sing a song and they hit the parts that they anticipate to be harder for them. Then when they hit the note, their eyebrows raise up and they are satisfied they hit it right.
