When I was 11, just a year or so after my dad died, mom came up to me after school and said "tomorrow, you are going into band, and pick an instrument and you are going to take lessons. " I didn't want to do what mom wanted, but I went to my room, (shut the door with some dissent) and turned on the radio. This song was playing. I heard the solo and went to school the next day and told the director, SAXOPHONE. I played sax and then trumpet until I graduated in concert, marching, and jazz bands. Then I heard Stevie Ray Vaughan and got a guitar. Now I play sax, trumpet, piano, guitar, bass, harmonica, and a little bit of everything. That was back in 1981

I started to learn classical piano at the age of 6 as I had been playing at home just by ear and my parents thought that I was some musical prodigy. I did exams at the Conservatorium and also, played in public when I was 11. But by the time I was 13 I had discovered boys, and that was the end of that. I kick myself now, I could sight read any music and now I have forgotten it all decades later. I do miss it, and still play my air piano to music 😂

Ahhh a fellow musician lol. In grade 6 i was given three choices for an instrument. Drums sax and baritone and i was what the bleep is a baritone...i found out since that was what was given to me. I took that horn and gave it everything i got from public school to high school all the way to the military. I think your dad gave you the inspiration to be your best and you wanted to make him proud. You succeeded and im sorry for your loss but keep it up

Juke Box Hero is my all time favorite Foreigner song. It’s rock in’! Urgent and Juke Box Hero came from Foreigner 4 released in 1981. My youngest son was born in 1982 and I used to rock him to sleep with that album. 7 years later they came to town and JBH was his favorite song. So at 7 yrs old and my oldest at 12, Foreigner became their first concert. All my 7 yr old could say was are they going to play JBH. I promised him they would play it and they did. He was so happy.

Why does everyone now make fun of the saxophone? That's not even a regular sax, that's like a baritone sax or whatever. I was first chair trombone out of 2 trombone players in 7th grade, someone had to be, wasn't that I was good at it, there were 20 sax players, different sizes and shapes. I think we need more sax players.
