My sister has been a welder for almost 30 years. She assembles Semi Trucks at Wabash National. She is very pretty and is good at her job. Yes she gets flirted with a lot even though she just turned 60 this year. It's rare to see women in certain jobs, but definitely doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

This movie is set in Pittsburgh PA. The main character is a young woman who works in a steel mill during the day and dances in clubs during the night. She ends up auditioning for a fancy dance school/troupe . Also, she abd the mill owner fall in love. The actress is Jennifer Beal ( not sure of the spelling) There were several songs from the soundtrack that became popular

She wasn't a steel worker, she was a welder. The whole movie was about her wanting to be a dancer and study at NY's famous dance academy. The final dance scenes were her at her audition to be accepted in... which, of course, she made it. Watch the movie, son.

Flashdance was a very successful romantic drama from 1983. The movie, set in Pittsburgh, features Jennifer Beals as Alex Owens, a welder by day, dancer by night. Flashdance was one of the first films to use music videos for promotion. So, the music video you watched for the title song "Fashdance.... What a Feeling)" was basically created by editing scenes together from the movie. Indeed, the video features the major dance sequence from the film, which was apparently the primary driver of the leg warmers trend of the '80s! While Irene Cara sings the title song, she does not appear in the movie, even though she was an accomplished dancer who not only sang the title song to the 1980 hit movie "Fame", but also starred in the film as an aspiring dancer. In the movie Falshdance, Jennifer Beals did perform some of her character's dance numbers herself, but other dancers were used for the more complex moves. Marine Jahan was Jennifer Beals' body double for the dancing scenes, but she was kept hidden from the press because the filmmakers did not want to "ruin the illusion." Alex's leap through the air in the audition scene was done by gymnast Sharon Shapiro. For the movie’s final scene, Alex performs a complicated routine featuring a break dancing move called the whip backspin. It was so difficult that neither one of Jennifer Beals’ body doubles could do it, so producers called on the then-16-year-old Richard “Crazy Legs” Colón, who, alongside his break dancing group the Rock Steady Crew, had already made a short appearance in the movie. He donned a wig, shaved his peach-fuzz moustache, squeezed into a leotard (no taping or tucking) and stepped to the beat. As a consequence, Jennifer Beals' leotard suddenly develops a curious bulge, clearly visable in a particularly intimate area.😅 Btw, in addtion to the US #1 hit title song by Irene Cara, the Flashdance movie and soundtrack features another US #1 hit - "Maniac" by Michael Sembello. Well worth checking out also!

The chair scene with the water splash is iconic. It's still referenced in various media, like on an episode of The Office. This movie set the styles for a while. A lot of country girls do all kinds of "male" skills simply because those things need to get done to live that lifestyle. Interesting how, when I was growing up, my dad would get after me about notions he had where I wasn't behaving "lady-like" enough until he needed things done on the farm. Same kind of nonsense I heard when I joined the army. Don't know about you, but I'm not gender confused and happy to be female. Just never aspired to be a "lady."😄

Jennifer Beals was the actress, Irene Cara is the singer for the soundtrack! You're Mamma was referring to the classic song, "Goodnight, Irene" by the Huddie Lead Belly" Ledbetter from 1933, but made famous in 1950 by the Weavers, which is the version I grew up hearing from my Mom's LP collection from Reader's Digest Greatest Hits.

I'm guessing that the song your mom used to sing to you is called "Goodnight Irene", a 20th-century American folk standard first recorded by American blues musician Huddie 'Lead Belly' Ledbetter in 1933. A version recorded by the Weavers was a #1 hit in 1950. Although generally faithful, the Weavers chose to omit some of Lead Belly's lyrics, leading Time magazine to label it a "dehydrated" and "prettied up" version of the original. The Weavers' lyrics are the ones now generally used, and Billboard ranked this version as the #1 song of 1950. The Weavers were an American folk music quartet based in the Greenwich Village area of New York City originally consisting of Lee Hays, Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert, and Fred Hellerman. Founded in 1948, the group sang traditional folk songs from around the world, as well as blues, gospel music, children's songs, labor songs, and American ballads.

First time i saw her in a movie was in "Aaron Love Angela"(1975) then later in "Fame"(1980) where her performance and singing started the 80s era with a bang including the title song to "Fame". Standout song for me was her singing "(Out Here)On My Own" in the movie, very highly recommended. We lost Irene a couple of years ago at age 63. 🔥RIP Queen

The ice skater was her sister in the movie. She did most of the dancing but the last dance was someone else. The lover friend was her boss. Irene Cara was a singer who sang the song. Def the 80's. I saw it when it came out at the movie theaters.

Irene Cara is the singer of the song. Jennifer Beals was the actress playing the character Alex in most of the movie and the dancing scenes in the studio especially at the end was done by a french pro dancer by the name Marine Jahan who did most of the dancing is still alive but that last dance scene before the school admission board was done by 3 different dancers broken into three takes so the leaping through the air was done by a American gymnist named Sharon Shapiro and the break Dancing spin was actually done by a male breakdancer Richard Colon known by the stage name Crazy Legs. But Jennifer did do some dance scenes especially in the exotic dancing cabaret club. Beals is still alive. Irene Kara sadly passed away From heart failure, November 2022 at 63, the woman who was the double for Alex's friend who wanted to be a professional skster died a year after the film was released in 1984 if a brain aneurysm. Now, if you want to see Irene Kara. Actually singing and doing a video. Then you need to go deeper into the 80s. Before this movie, it was a show called fame and she did the title song that was at the opening of this TV show every time it came on.Irene Cara was also Afro Latina, The movie is called Flashdance released in the early 80's. It's about a young 20 year old woman growing up and living in the expensive, New York City streets. Even though compared to today, it was dirt cheap and trying to survive. You know, working as a welder? Having to do exotic dancing jobs to make money and wants to be a professional dance and. her dream to go to a specific school of the arts in New York that was where she was trying to get into. And that love interest man was able to get her a hard to get audition at fiirst she's mad at him and doest soeak to him but goes anyway. And then the video ends with the scene where she gets in and runs out of wherever only to see him there and she's now happy to see him and thanks him romantically for helping her get a shot at her dream to get into this school for the Arts. THE END

GOOD NIGHT IRENE was a song written in 1933 by LedBelly Ledbetter, was a #1 hit in 1950 by the Weavers. I thought it was written about my Aunt Irene.

The first time I drove down Sunset Blvd in Hollywood int early 80's, I remember seeing all of the giant movie posters and the biggest one was for the movie Flashdance and it was just Jennifer Beals who I instantly thought was one of the most beautiful women I ever had seen. I didn't know who she was because the movie had not come out yet. But soon the movie and this song would both get to no. 1.

Good reaction. I work driving Union Pacific railroad crews around Illinois and Missouri. You would be surprised the number of female conductors and engineers. There aren't many, but, the ones I've met are just amazing women.

Yay! Finally! This is the theme song to the iconic movie, "Flashdance." Totally improbable plot...that's what makes it so great! 👍She's a welder by day...She's a "sort of" exotic dancer by night (pretty PG-13-rated stuff)...She want's to be accepted into a prestigious dancing academy. She accomplishes her goal by doing it her way. Irene is not in the movie - she's just the singer. Jennifer Beals is the actress, Marine Jahan (and evidently others) are the "secret" performers that do the actual dancing.

In that famous dancing scene they actually used 3-4 different people. One was a guy who did the break dancing part. Look it up. Still a fantastic movie.
