She wasn't a steel worker, she was a welder. The whole movie was about her wanting to be a dancer and study at NY's famous dance academy. The final dance scenes were her at her audition to be accepted in... which, of course, she made it. Watch the movie, son.
@stephenstrudwick80956 ай бұрын
Flashdance was a very successful romantic drama from 1983. The movie, set in Pittsburgh, features Jennifer Beals as Alex Owens, a welder by day, dancer by night. Flashdance was one of the first films to use music videos for promotion. So, the music video you watched for the title song "Fashdance.... What a Feeling)" was basically created by editing scenes together from the movie. Indeed, the video features the major dance sequence from the film, which was apparently the primary driver of the leg warmers trend of the '80s! While Irene Cara sings the title song, she does not appear in the movie, even though she was an accomplished dancer who not only sang the title song to the 1980 hit movie "Fame", but also starred in the film as an aspiring dancer. In the movie Falshdance, Jennifer Beals did perform some of her character's dance numbers herself, but other dancers were used for the more complex moves. Marine Jahan was Jennifer Beals' body double for the dancing scenes, but she was kept hidden from the press because the filmmakers did not want to "ruin the illusion." Alex's leap through the air in the audition scene was done by gymnast Sharon Shapiro. For the movie’s final scene, Alex performs a complicated routine featuring a break dancing move called the whip backspin. It was so difficult that neither one of Jennifer Beals’ body doubles could do it, so producers called on the then-16-year-old Richard “Crazy Legs” Colón, who, alongside his break dancing group the Rock Steady Crew, had already made a short appearance in the movie. He donned a wig, shaved his peach-fuzz moustache, squeezed into a leotard (no taping or tucking) and stepped to the beat. As a consequence, Jennifer Beals' leotard suddenly develops a curious bulge, clearly visable in a particularly intimate area.😅 Btw, in addtion to the US #1 hit title song by Irene Cara, the Flashdance movie and soundtrack features another US #1 hit - "Maniac" by Michael Sembello. Well worth checking out also!

I'm guessing that the song your mom used to sing to you is called "Goodnight Irene", a 20th-century American folk standard first recorded by American blues musician Huddie 'Lead Belly' Ledbetter in 1933. A version recorded by the Weavers was a #1 hit in 1950. Although generally faithful, the Weavers chose to omit some of Lead Belly's lyrics, leading Time magazine to label it a "dehydrated" and "prettied up" version of the original. The Weavers' lyrics are the ones now generally used, and Billboard ranked this version as the #1 song of 1950. The Weavers were an American folk music quartet based in the Greenwich Village area of New York City originally consisting of Lee Hays, Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert, and Fred Hellerman. Founded in 1948, the group sang traditional folk songs from around the world, as well as blues, gospel music, children's songs, labor songs, and American ballads.

But Jennifer did do some dance scenes especially in the exotic dancing cabaret club. Beals is still alive. Irene Kara sadly passed away From heart failure, November 2022 at 63, the woman who was the double for Alex's friend who wanted to be a professional skster died a year after the film was released in 1984 if a brain aneurysm. Now, if you want to see Irene Kara. Actually singing and doing a video. Then you need to go deeper into the 80s. Having to do exotic dancing jobs to make money and wants to be a professional dance and. her dream to go to a specific school of the arts in New York that was where she was trying to get into. And that love interest man was able to get her a hard to get audition at fiirst she's mad at him and doest soeak to him but goes anyway. And then the video ends with the scene where she gets in and runs out of wherever only to see him there and she's now happy to see him and thanks him romantically for helping her get a shot at her dream to get into this school for the Arts. Yay! Finally! This is the theme song to the iconic movie, "Flashdance." Totally improbable plot...that's what makes it so great! 👍She's a welder by day...She's a "sort of" exotic dancer by night (pretty PG-13-rated stuff)...She want's to be accepted into a prestigious dancing academy. She accomplishes her goal by doing it her way. Irene is not in the movie - she's just the singer. Jennifer Beals is the actress, Marine Jahan (and evidently others) are the "secret" performers that do the actual dancing.

In that famous dancing scene they actually used 3-4 different people. One was a guy who did the break dancing part. Look it up. Still a fantastic movie.

"Lead Belly" used to sing the song "Goodnight, Irene" to his niece Irene Campbell back in the early 1900's ...
I believe there are five different dancers in the dance audition scene. One for each style of dancing, including a guy performing the break dancing section. Thanks for the reaction - as good as always.
