Oh yes she was definitely a singer. She was from one of the most legendary families in music. Her family was one of pioneering founders of country and gospel music. They are the Carters. John met June when he toured the with the Carter family. John was married to Vivian but left her for June. Johnny chased her for yrs. They were married 35 yrs until her death. She was the love of his life

If you look back at Johnny's video for HURT, you will see the love and pain in June's eyes as she stood over him on the stairs. Their marriage was not without issue, but they spent their lives together and were pure ROYALTY in the industry. May they Rest In Peace. I know i miss them.

June Carter Cash is the daughter of "Mother" Maybelle Carter. Maybelle and June's uncle A.P. Carter and the Carter family are the pioneers of country music. This family is from the same place that I grew up, in Southwest Virginia. This family is like royalty around here. There's a country music museum in Bristol, Tennessee that is basically a tribute to this family. This area is considered the birthplace of country music, and it started with the Carter family. Johnny and June would come to the Carter family fold once a year during the summer, and you would have thought that the president had come to town. In a county of less than 18,000 people at the time, there would be people there from miles around. It's one of those situations that you really can't understand it unless you were there. Plus Johnny would also bring other big name artists with him like, Ricky Skaggs, Marty Stewart (that was Johnny's son in law at the time), Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and a host of others.
@duanehelton48003 ай бұрын
July/August of 1927, The Carter Family and Jimmy Rodgers (in separate sessions) were recorded by Ralph Peer in Bristol TN/VA. This was the first 'recorded' country music. The Carters are THE FIRST FAMILY of country music, and Jimmy, its first country music star, if you will. The Carters sang old time music, mainly from the Appalachians, and Jimmy sang old negro work songs that he added yodels to.

@@lindamullins7449 I'm sorry that I just saw this. I'm from a little place called Copper Creek. It's just on the other side of Gate City. I used to drive my Jeep on High Knob over to flag rock and look over the town of Norton. I left there right after I graduated from high school and was in a job that took me around the world, and back again. And after 8 years I finished my commitment for that job, I settled in Florida for 5 years and worked for the county there. And during all that time I had wished that I had never left. My whole life before I left, I wanted to be anywhere but there. But, you can never go back. I'm in Kingsport, Tennessee now. I've been here for 24 years now. Yeah, I'm just a short drive away from there, but it's just not the same. My old home place is no longer standing. All of my family is gone. I still have friends that I see when I go to watch my Blue Devils play football or basketball. I'm sure that you probably miss home as much as I do. Thanks for the comment. You have to watch "Walk The Line". It is a movie that John and June had input in. It is one of the best biopics ever. You will not be sorry, I wouldn't steer you wrong. It isn't just Johnny's story, it's Johnny and June's story. I know you feel a lot when it comes to Johnny, watch this movie and you will understand why. I don't think it will get in the way of reactions. Johnny and June approved of everything, it isn't romanticized drama, it's their story. You admire the man, now get to know him.

As many have said, June was a member of the famous Carter Family. Her mother Mother Maybelle, who sang "Wildwood Flower" and was a guitar pioneer. The family were longtime members of Grand Old Opry, and Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters were regular performers there live, on the radio and in the early days of TV. June always played a comedic character in the family act ... and you can sort of see it here. Her character was sort of sassy, boy crazy and naive. It's said that Johnny fell in love with her from her stage performances. Little known fact: June moved to New York for a couple of years to study acting at the famed Lee Strasberg school, where she was classmates with Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Shelley Winters.

June Carter was SO a singer. She came from the "1st family of country music". As other's have said. The carter family is 'royalty' when it comes to country/bluegrass music. The Carter family recorded their 1st song in 1927. That was June Carter's mama Maybelle, and her sister and sister's husband. By 1930 the family had sold over 300,000 albums. June Carter "joined" the group and started signing with the family in 1940 when she was 10 years old. In 1944 the family band disbanded and Maybelle and her 3 daughters formed a new group Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters. After the death of A.P. Carter in 1960, Maybelle and her girls started using the "Carter family" name again.

June Carter a second generation of the First Family of Country music, started performing young. She was already a star of radio and TV when she and Johnny met. She thought of herself as more of a comedian than a singer. You can see a young June in Hank Williams' "Hey, Good Looking" video, which you should be on your list already, LoL! She wrote "Ring Of Fire" about Johnny, and said he was 'kinda scary' back then. And she told Johnny that he ought to get the lyrics to the song, "A Boy Named Sue", after he had played it at party in Hollywood. He had to read the lyrics as he played guitar, because he'd never heard the song before.

June was a much larger star than Johnny when they first met, she was a part of the original OG performing country family, the Carter Family. She performed with her mother Maybelle and her sisters June and Anita as for decades. Her mother Maybelle is credited with the Carter scratch, a particular way of guitar picking, that others emulated.

June along with her sisters Helen and Anita with their mother Mama Maybelle were on the Grand Ole Opry starting in the fifties. Mama Maybelle along with her cousin Sara and Sara's husband A.P. formed the Carter Family singers who started out in or around 1927. They are considered the first family of country music who 'essentially invented the kind of harmony singing used for years in country music and popularized numerous songs that became country standards'.
