Rob Thomas wrote this about when his mother was fighting cancer. Maybe sleeps when it’s raining is that the rain sounds soothed her. And 3 am is a funny time of day, I am a nurse, and for some reason many people wake at that hour and worry about things. It’s also the time on a night shift when you start to feel the most tired. Also, 3 am is often a time when people do pass away 🙏🏼

He did. He's Rob Thomas, he sang "Smooth" with Santana. Inescapable hit about 25 summers ago. He wrote his about being a teenager and having a Mom who was an alcoholic and was diagnosed with lymphoma. Other Matchbox Twenty songs are "If You're Gone", "Bright Lights". Wendy's - Dave Thomas. In D.C. until recently we had a convoluted intersection with a Wendy's in the middle, so everyone called it Dave Thomas Circle.

Their biggest song "Push" got them a lot of flack when it hit the radio because conservatives thought it was a man beating his girlfriend (somehow, the lyrics don't really allude to that) when it's the other way around, he wrote it about an abusive relationship he himself was in. Also "The Real World", "Unwell" and "How Far We've Come" are fantastic songs, too!

You know I just turned 61, and this whole album is one I consider as required in any collection. It's that powerful as a whole. Add Guns & Roses Appetites for Destruction. Willie Nelson and Family Live, the double album is absolute fire. Delbert McClinton, The Ultimate Collection. There are many from over the years that are just required if you consider yourself a lover if music, no matter the genre. I can take a person on a journey. I was born in Gallatin, TN. In the US Navy from '81 to '87. Exposed to country, motown, blues, southern classic and alternative rock. Gospel, contemporary Christian, bluegrass, folk, and whatever is in between, including rap, hip-hop, and pop. Genre does not matter, I just want music that makes me feel something. If it makes me feel like moving, crying, laughing, or gets me to examine my life, motivations, and perspective, then it has done what it's supposed to do. Thank you for your genuine reactions, Black Pegasus, and for looking for the meaning and context of the lyrics, as well as just jamming out when necessary ❤
