Oh, how I have been waiting for this one. This song was written by Country Music Hall of Fame artist Don Gibson. The record was released after Patsy was killed in a plane crash. It means something special to me because I was in the U.S. Army when it was popular and it was the one song soldiers would play when they got that "Dear John" letter from the girl back home, dumping them. Soldiers would play this song and tears would roll down their cheek as they drank a six pack of beer. I can visualize it now. Great reaction, BP.

I was raised on country and Patsy was my dad's favorite country singer. When she passed it was the only time I saw my Dad cry. Understand though, we didnt have the variety of genres we do now. Country was known as the genre to break through a proof of success. Had she lived i could see her singing other genres if she liked the song. Patsy was a genre. Linda Ronstadt and Whitney Houston had that same quality. What sets her apart is that she possesses what very few artists have. The ability to see, hear and feel every note, every word. How every note particularly her voice, clarity intermingled with a silkiness that wraps around you. And her high notes and lilts are effortless. Just jaw dropping. ❤❤

Patsy Cline is a subgenre of country called "Nashville Sound." Formulated in the late 1950's and brought to fruition thru the mid-1060's, it is the blending of country and pop. This song was recorded during one of her final sessions. Her producer, Owen Bradley, went way more pop sounding in these sessions than he did in previous ones. Patsy got lost in emotion during these sessions to the point where she would cry on the takes. "Sweet Dreams (Of You)" is one of the songs that happened in.

How can anyone not love Patsy Cline? She was the first woman inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and was best pals with Loretta Lynn, who was crushed when Patsy died in a plane crash at just 30 years old. Interestingly enough, Patsy attributed her magical voice to a near-death experience when she was 13. She had a severe throat infection caused by rheumatic fever, her heart stopped beating momentarily and she was placed in an oxygen tent. "When I recovered, I had this booming voice," she recalled. Patsy recorded Sweet Dreams exactly one month before she died.

She was a favorite of my grandmother's, my mother's and mine. Of course I love the popular songs like Crazy, Sweet Dreams, Walkin' after midnight, She's Got You, ect., but my favorite is Leavin' On Your Mind. If you get a chance watch the movie Sweet Dreams. It came out in the 80's and stars Jessica Lange and Ed Harris. It's a great movie to start learning about Patsy and her career. It's also full of her biggest hits so the soundtrack is great. Hopefully you have a Patsy Cline week where you react to more of her songs! 😁👍

There's probably only a hand full of people that has a voice that is so out of this world and Patsy is one of them. If u get a chance u should listen/react to the song "She's got you", it's one of my favorite songs by Patsy. Commenting on how it was recording back in her time, any artist/singer from those times actually had to be able to sing which is one reason why I loved music, especially country before autotunes because the artist had to actually be able to sing.

I fell in love immediately and then my mom crushed my entire world by telling me she died in plane crash WAAAAY before I was born lol I was distraught. My first true ounce of grief in this life was for this woman and this all occured like 30 years ago. I still feel that same sting of knowing her light was no longer in the world at such a young age. I know that sounds sad but that sting is bittersweet and only proves how impactful this person was that at 5 years old I knew instinctively that what I was hearing was pure gold.
