Maynard preaches to stay in the moment. He does not allow cell phones used until the end where he let's everyone film a whole song. He wants you to be there in the moment and experience the art. If you like the message in this one you should check out his other band A Perfect Circles Disillusioned.

when this song first came out in 1996 it was called track 1 because of the offensive nature of the title stinkfist. Started with finger deep in the borderline, then knuckle deep then elbow and finally shoulder basically showing the levels of stimulation society needs to feel alive

Any Tool is always welcome. AENIMA has to be one of my favorite albums ever . Every song is 🔥 but I think that you would really like 46 & 2 next because you like to analyze lyrics, and that song would be perfect . Also, you mentioned how awesome the instruments are in their songs. Check out Danny Carry drum cam for the song "Pneuma" . It's epic. Thanks for the content

Maynard is such a unique artistic character. The visuals can be distracting from the incredible music and lyrics. The first time I saw Tool live, Maynard was nude, entire body shaved, one half of his body painted blue and the other half painted white.

I’m so proud of you guys 😂, you are in the good path of becoming REAL Tool fans, from “I don’t get it “ to “I fell this way”, “I get it”, is a long way of understanding tool lyrics, music, vision …

14:22 that build up and crescendo is amazing. You both immediately started bobbing your heads to it in unison. It is almost impossible not to. Great reaction. I am glad you picked up on the metaphor. Amazing how relevant this still is today, when back then it was basically just TV that was desensitizing us to the horrors of the world. I wonder what they think of our constant connection to our phones and social media...
@Bethzie3926 күн бұрын
Nothing is what it seems when it comes to Tool, their metaphors are insanity!!! Have you guys done Vicarious? Or basically any live versions of anything, Maynard’s voice is like magic 😊

Maynard sings a lot in metaphor. Sometimes, the meaning is not always the direct interpretation. Fisting is a literal metaphor for desensitization.

Tool are like a subliminal psychology degree if you know they're not just being tools! They use a lot of mentalism tricks combining musical structure and words/NLP, at least, that's what it looks like, discombobulation combined with messages laying under lyrics.

They are ALSO AMAZING LIVE PERFORMERS, and they were the last concert I attended, and it was so expensive that I decided that I couldn't afford to go to concerts, IN GENERAL, ANYMORE
@maynarddrivesfast80426 күн бұрын
100% agree with you. I've been to and played HUNDREDS (prob close to a thousand) shows in my lifetime (I'm early 40's), and they're becoming increasingly more cost prohibitive. The last Tool show I caught was a couple years ago on the Fear Inoculum tour, and just two tickets halfway back from the stage on the second deck was over $250! I've actually cut back significantly on attending more "mainstream" acts for that reason alone. Fortunately, most of my favorite bands these days are more "underground" and therefore are much cheaper to go see. I will say that not all mainstream acts cost that much. I went and caught Deftones at a local, smaller venue (800 person cap) for $40 a ticket a few years ago.

@maynarddrivesfast804 my friend in Clearwater sees all kinds of concerts, BIG NAMES, all the time for $40-60 at a downtown Amphitheater, but I live in New Orleans, NOTHING IS AFFORDABLE HERE. 😆

Boys I’m not going to lie this song made tears. Because I kept thinking about how amazing life was when we were young and everything was so incredible. Just a plant or a bug was the most impressive thing. Now as I’m older I’m an addict to stimulation and this song is what made me come to that realization. The ability to feel something about the smallest of things is truly gone and it really sucks. This song is truly awesome

IMO, this is the Greatest (Heaviest) Riff in all of Music! In Concert, Maynard usually stays in the Back ground and when they Record they focus on Maynards voice blending or accentuating the music, not having him up front! They focus on the Band being a Band and not having anyone over shining anyone. The Band (together) writes all of the Music and then it goes to Maynard and He builds the Lyrics to the Music...most Bands go the other way! They sometimes will not release new sounds for a decade at a time until they have created their Masterpieces! Musical Mastery at the Highest Level...

This song came out in 1996, and Maynard used a mini megaphone at the back of the studio for his vocals
@chriswebb782222 күн бұрын
A good comment I saw about Maynard's vocals: @heyskipj 6 days ago You’re used to singers being forward in the mix. We’ve been there. Tool mixes the vocals as an equal instrument. A part of the band. Only forward when the song demands it-the music isn’t a separate element. Even when they play live Maynard, the singer, is staged in the back on a platform near the drummer (GOAT). Bass and guitar are staged in the front.
