First album of theirs I heard, winter ‘98 when I was a teen. Now, being in my mid 30’s, I still listen to it regularly as soon as the first crisp day of autumn comes, but especially deep into winter here in England. Definitely my personal favourite & certainly one of their best.

The woman you hear at the end is the Glamour from Hammer, the Polish actress, Ingrid Pitt. She played Elizabeth Bathory in a Hammer Horror movie in the 70s. She was also in the original Wicker Man. She was absolutely gorgeous. She narrates on a couple songs from that album such as The Twisted Nails of Faith, which is a badass, blistering song itself.

I still think Us, dark, Invincible is a freakin masterpeice🤷‍♂ but the old stuff is great... their early death/black metal stuff is gothic as well, but is more raw. Summer Dying Fast (the original) i recommend.

Love this song. Dani is a lyricist without equal. By the way, nobody knows if Erzabet bathed in blood, we just know she tortured and killed young girls. Also, to make more sense of the ending: She didn't burn at the stake, as was the custom. Her accomplices did, but because she was nobility, she was imprisoned within part of her castle. They sealed her in, walling up the door and all of the windows completely so that no light could get in, only leaving a hole large enough to give her food. She lived that way, in total darkness, until she died four years later. It's a crazy story.

Elizabeth Bathory would bathe in the blood of virgin girls with the belief that it would keep her beautiful forever. When she was tried and convicted for her crimes she was sentenced to be bricked in a windowless room in one of the castle towers and her meals were given to her through a slot. The Hungarian black metal band Tormentor has a song about her titled "Elizabeth Bathory" and the Swedish band Bathory has a song titled "Woman Of Dark Desires" which is about her.

Elizabeth Bathory was a Countess, did not bathe in a bath per se, but actually what I researched stood underneath these girls while they hung bleeding. They were tortured and stabbed, she had 2 helpers according to legend, and she would let blood fall on her. The legend is it kept her young. She laments.. Therefore sorrowfully mourn that she ages. She is related to Vlad the Impaler. Cradle uses the Order of the Dragon insignia on albums and merch. Vlad Dracula. The historical figure Bram Stoker Novel wrote... Dracula.

Cradle of Filth is absolutely incredible. Their genre is mostly considered gothic extreme metal also, btw. Dani Filth is widely considered to be basically a metal Shakespeare because of the literal poetry he writes for the lyrics. This entire album (Cruelty and the Beast - the theme sounds familiar to y'all because you also did Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids which is from this album) is a concept album about Elizabeth Bathory.

You kind of topical for me as I just "reconnected " guess you could say with Dani thru Cameo the video service, not the Proto hip-hop needs costume door and be active the late 70s early 80s... Although that would have been quite a feat had I managed to get them as my black metal match makers...but, I digress) He and I used to write back and forth via post back in the old-school tape trading days. Very smart chap, and even 30 years ago be was always very efficient and on top of promoting and steering C.O.F. thru the maze of pitfalls that young artists face. Both our respective bands at the time we're in negotiations with a purely City record label called Tombstone. And fortunately Dani got a hold of me with some questions about how my interactions were in dealing with the label head, which made me really do a deep look into just whether this guy was going to be worth a damn or not. And as it turns out he wasn't. So effectivelyDani saved us both from a very dubious and potentially damaging record contract. I'll always be grateful to him for that plus he was always a good conversationalist and an amiable guy. He's had a outstanding career, and I genuinely think he's on his way to becoming the England's Vincent Price or perhaps Alice Cooper... I mean he's kind of national horror icon now. I went on to become a horror film composer so I suppose there is some Mutual morbidity in there somewhere. Cheers.

For some odd reason, Cradle's genre seems to be an endless point of discussion to the point of people just being pedantic for the sake of it. Dani even jokingly called Cradle's music "heavy funk" because he doesn't really care. Along with Emperor and Dimmu Borgir, Cradle are the forerunners of Symphonic Black Metal of the early 90's, so that is probably the closest answer. But yes, they also use elements of Death metal, new wave of british heavy metal and classical music, thats what makes them fun and unique! Anyway, you guys should react to Cradle's Damnation and a Day, its a concept album based on Lucifer/Paradise Lost and an absolute masterpiece!
