Slayer were on Def Jam records at the time (a rap label). They provided the guitar work on the Beastie Boys You Gotta Fight and No Sleep to Brooklyn, and Angel of Death was sampled by label-mates Public Enemy on She Watch Channel Zero.

I actually find it disrespectful for people to sample songs to put into their own. It distorts the meaning behind why the segment that was sampled was originally created with. It also (to me anyway) points to a lack of creativity.. or at least an indicator of laziness on the part of the person doing the sampling. Create something similar or whatever.. but to sample is essentially to steal the work of another. To put it another way.. if I were writing a humorous book about the misadventures of a taxi driver in New York.. and instead of writing chapter 5 myself, I took 30 pages from Stephen King's "The Stand" and inserted them as 'Chapter 5' of my book... (you get the idea, I hope) I am sure many bands do not mind being sampled as long as they get paid for it.. so it's considered acceptable by many for that reason. I do not share that belief, however.. the sampling should not be done in the first place... especially if the song/segment is used in a way contrary to the intent of the original musicians.. like taking a serious song about the loss of a loved one and inserting a sample from it into a party mix.

“ mandatory suicide” is a song about kids being sent off to war. it was mandatory, and it was suicide. I’ve been listening to slayer since they first started in the early 80s and they’re still the best trash band out there. I was at one of their first shows and I was at their very last show. Slayer is just an excellent band.

Almost all thrash metal bands were/are singing/screaming about sociological issues. There were a few hybrids between HC punk and thrash metal bands back in the 80's. Like D.R.I., Cryptic Slaughter, S.O.D. (which had members of Anthrax, M.O.D. and Nuclear Assault) just to mention a few. Testament would be the best example of sociological lyrics, even if they are not part of the "Big Four". On my opinion, they would be a part of the Big Five :) Thank you guys again to reach out away from your musical comfort zone.

1988 SOH was released. A slightly slower album after the 28 minute Reign In Blood. A lot of Slayer material covers war as a topic. As Kerry King said, 'if you play as fast and heavy as we do, you can't sing songs about butterflies. I seen them live@ Hammersmith Odeon in London when they were touring this album. Crystal clear sound and brutal atmosphere. Thrash gigs weren't about standing around with your phonee in your hand, because they didn't exist. Headbanging and sore neck all the way!

Most of the soldiers knew ahead time that at the Battle of the Somme and Okinawa (and many other battles) that they were marching straight into a meat grinder. Just two off the top of my head that had extreme casualties on both sides. It’s also well known that during WWII, the Russian soldiers either had to march forward and fight the Germans or if they turned and ran, their own machine gunners would mow them down.
