I recently started working for someone who has been a watchmaker for 60 years. Yes, he's 80, but he still has the passion and I feel so lucky that he took me under his wing to teach me the craft. Watching videos like these only gets me more and more excited for the future and everything I will learn. This is one of the most beautiful crafts I think that has ever existed.

@Randy Marsh, I've been a professional watchmaker for 19 years and been interested in it for probably, 30 years. My Great uncle was a watchmaker and my mentor and I was lucky enough to inherit his tools when he finally retired but if I've got any advice, it would be collect as many service parts and broken movements as you can afford, this was the advice that my Great Uncle gave me and it's held me in good stead! Crystals, main springs, hair springs, face and hands are getting harder and harder to find and keeping family heirlooms ticking is a rewarding experience. We can buy all of the tools that we need, what we cannot buy are the parts to restore the movements!

So... I bought me a multi function digital watch from Walmart the other day. It was on sale for $3.50 (not a typo) I decided to wash my hands with it on to see if it was water resistant. It was not. Got all full of bubbles inside. SO...Being the budding watchmaker that I am. Took it apart...dried out the moisture and sealed the 4 buttons for the multi functions with some Shoe Goo. Cute little blobs at the ends of each button. It appears to be fixed. I haven't pressure tested it to 800 ft but it no longer gets moisture when I wash my hands with the watch on. This is all because of your encouragement. You rock SIR.

I absolutely love your channel and your terrific sense of humour. Your love of your family shines through with everything you say and your skill level is phenomenal. My late father was a Master Watchmaker and I spent hours watching him repair and service watches at home. Although he was the senior watchmaker at a Rolex, Jaeger LeCoultre, Zenith dealership the wages were pretty poor and so he subsidised his salary by working at home. He used to charge 30 “Bob” (£1.50p) for servicing a Rolex. Times have changed but I still think that watchmakers are not given the respect that they deserve. Great channel.

@@NekkidWatchmaker His favourite movement to work on was the early ElPrimero - so I think that he was a pretty brave man. Are you over here in the UK? My wife has a Jaeger LeCoultre “back winding” watch which is tiny and was left to her by my late mother when she died.I think that the mainspring has snapped in it. I was conned into sending the watch to the USA where a “reputable” watchmaker kept it for over a year and eventually demanded a fortune for him to send it back to us. I am saving up to have the watch repaired and was wondering if it was something that you might be interested in doing. It is our 30th Wedding Anniversary next yea and I would love to get it done for that. Please don’t feel obliged. Take care and God bless you and your loved ones.

What a beautiful restoration ❤, I'm becoming addicted to your skills. If only my fat fingers would allow such delicate applications. I'm blessed to be able to watch you at work. A big question, when you really enjoy what you do, is it really work. 😅?

For Christ sake, I was not prepared for the "after" shots. It probably looks much better than what it looked like when it left the factory. Hell of a job!!

I understand (sort of) preferring the old dial. The black one is the first Rolex I've seen that I felt was beautiful. Imagine my surprise therefore when I realized the true beauty on this channel is your soul. Nothing to do with watches at all. Hug your family and stay safe.

Great video. I like how you restore watch. Others has no tutorials, only fast played or time lapse. Thanks.

I really enjoyed this video. I like the ideas about the dial, and how restoring the watch is a journey to the end. It makes the way it turns out to be special and that's what really counts.
