Maries is good for landscaping due to intense color and more earth tones color option. It is better than Prima Confections tropical, imo. Same sila ng Vibrancy and color dispersion. I suggest buy Maries for intense colors and just buy additional colors: Cerulean and Lemon Yellow to maximize the colors in the color wheel, and you've got yourself a tipid hacks 36 colors XD

hahahha. that's actually cool and a great suggestion. this maries set lacks cool yellow and cool blue. getting from other brands like cotman or prima won't really hurt especially if the artist dont bother mixing brands jn his palette. 🎨☺️

Another videos FULL of excellent information. I love how you know your pigment color coded by heart that’s amazing and also extremely helpful when, like in this video, companies are essentially “mis-naming” pigments. I wouldn’t have known their Viridian was actually Pthalo Blue-Green Shade like you did, but now I do!! I’m gonna make notes!!

Nibs. thank you for recognizing my efforts and OC-ness about pigments. hahaha. i was myself a 'victim' of misnamed paints so back then i was wondering why for example, this 'viridian' was so staining while on this other brand, it wasnt.. also because of reasearches like in handprint.com, i learned that a real viridian is pg18, granulates and doesnt stain unlike pthalo green BS, PG7. it took me some time. actually, i didn't intentionally memorize it and i once hated technicalities. but here i am, sounding like alien to some. 😆

I tried arches for the first time a couple weeks ago and now realise that the paper is way more important so that's where I'm going to spend my money. Just purchased the ultramarine blue. What a fabulous comparison with other sets you have. I loved the sample painting you made for both Marie's and Camel ( I am from india) . Somehow your sample painting makes me very convinced of the marie's set! Camel is the cheapest in the world without doubt! However, the availability of Marie's in india is a super expensive affair so its not comparable sadly. I wish i can still get my hands on them one day! Keep up the good work!!!

Thank you ila. Maries Master's edge over Camel for me is mainly the pigment info. The camel colors are really good especially the ultramarine and prussian blue. I am really interested to try these paints out more, and explore all their colors, however when I contacted them, they told me they're not shipping to the Philippines.. i guess i would need to hoard if i get to visit India soon. 🙏 This maries set by the way is rare, and it might be really hard to find and if one finds one, shipping is expensive.. so, i think you can checkout other cheap and good brands like Paul Rubens that's more available. 🙏☺️🎨

Marie's student grade paints were one of the first sets that I purchased, so I would love to try these someday. I'm curious about the way they dry, did you notice craking? are they rewetable? thank you for the lovely review ^^

I have not tried putting them on pans but i definitely will this year. 😉 As per the excess paints in the mixing palette, it looks like it's drying very fine. They're rewettable. What's wrong with cracking? I think it's normal cause ive experienced it in some Daniel Smith colors and even in other honey brands like sennelier esp phthalos and earth colors. Unless, the cracking you were pertaining is the type that turns the paints to a rock-like state? Or like powdery cracking that it loses moisture it gets out of its pan? Well that's really bad. 😉

I used to have Marie's Tube and Half pan, kinda love certain colors like Prussian Blue, Gamboge, Brilliant Violet (so intense color). I work at local artshop and help beginner/hobbyist artist to buy a watercolor and supply for beginners (Marie's is my suggestion to start watercolor painting). Hi Dank, thank you for sharing your experience. I have started using the Marie's (student grade) back in grade school and that time, I believed it was sooo good, without knowing there are so much more paints that are better. I learned alot using the Marie's paints. I believe the Master's is available now at some online stores, depending on where you come from. They come in sets that are more practical to get, price wise.

I guess it is really new batch and according to my boss, all Marie's product they order directly from Marie's Manufacture (most popular is Acrylic Paint and it took 1-2 month wait the color process and restock all Marie's paint/mediums) and the shop is also have wholesale (for artist and small artshop, stationery shop). Sorry if my english is not perfect. Im so happy when you do a review Marie's Master watercolor and color swatches.

I check on the pigment code of all 43 colors from this line and find out most of them have excellent lightfastness，and two of them good. Really impressive.

PY3 and PR149, around 6~7 out of 8 lightfasteness, and others are all 8.

I saw that Owen set in Shopee, and yes, it looks like the student grade of PRubens, But there is an actual student grad eof paul rubens. They come in tubes with sky blue cover. the artist grade tubes of paul rubens are covered in dark blue paper. I have contacted the seller of the owen watercolors in Shopee.. and im considering on trying them out. :)

Hi Victoria. Sennelier is one of those brands are super love. It is in my top5. 😍 I have not made a review of it yet though, as well as the MGrham cause ive been thinking of completing their tubes first. I currently have 70+ of the 90+ Sennelier. Hahaha. But I might review one of the sets soon. 😉 I did use my Sennelier in my Portraiture tutorials (except for the smiling Jesus) and in Wreath floral and Moth orchid demo. 😉🎨 If you're thinking how it fairs with other brands, it fairs pretty high. They're very translucent and layers best. 🎨🙏

I have some left over paints at the palette from the review, and when i tried rewetting them, they were absolutely fine and rewettable.. if you're pertaining to the painting if the colors are liftable, i havent tried it yet but i think most colors will rewet or activate easily.

Yes there is a huge difference. This set i reviewed is the professional grade and theyre more pigmented. There is also a wider choice of colors with some technical information such as pigemnt code and lightfastness rating.

You're welcome. Similar colors from both brands have comparable vibrancy. But since White Nights have wider color range (they have 108), they have more colors to offer. Overall, id still choose White Nights.

Thus, I was about to buy a set of 24 tubes, but I was confused between White Nights and MMasters. And when you told me this, I decided upgrading, MMasters 24 tubes, yeee:D. Since I don't mind about the dispersion, lightfastness, etc. but only vibrancy, I chose MMasters because of the price, both WNights and MMasters are affordable but MMasters is still cheaper you know:D. Hi Lorena. Gracias. 🙏 i have reviewed only the professional and 4th generation sets of Paul Rubens. I have not experienced using their student grade, so I can not say which is better. Although, the Marie's Masters perform well, I'm afraid I can not recommend it as professional grade as many of the pigments, particularly in reds and yellows, are fugitive. It would be better to choose professional grade with identified pigment information if your concern is overall quality and longevity of your paintings. 😊

Hmmm.. I always suggest artist grade brands, but if transparency is your main concern, brand doesnt actually matter.. but the pigment. In any brand, all cadmium yellows are opaque.. and all phthalo blues are transparent. What i would suggest you to do is to identify the pigments that are transparent, semi transparent and opaque. the purpose of the black line in my swatches is to show the transparency of the paints. Some paints (usually the cheaper paints and student grade paints) will have opaque colors even to pigments that should be transparent) because of extenders or "chalk". You may also check out my video of the top 40 pigments to see which pigments are worth investing to. :)

Their professional 48 pan set was garbage. It claimed professional, but was really subpar student grade. Their tubes seem better, but I'm still not sure if they are artist grade - but he price is at least of student grade in america.

Is their pans set the once placed in a plastic palette and has a ceramic tray? I have tried the cheaper tubes and the pans set, but those were less performing than this, the masters. However i still think, this masters is only comparable to some good student grade paints.. 🎨🙏

I'm bummed about the unnecessary multiple pigments, but very impressed with the way they can go from super vibrant to lovely pale washes. You tend to get one or the other at that price point.. paints that are wimpy no matter what and ones that are super bright but fall apart into a mess with a lot of water.

By saying bar, yoh mean yung solids / pans? most of the time, id go for tubes. Economy wise, mas matipid siya. And you can pour them naman sa pans and dry them if you want them to be portable. ng mganda sa ready made pans is that may lalagyan and instant na. Although, need to remember, hjndi lahat ng brands may same formula. Like sa winsor and newton and sennelier. Iba ang formula sa tubes vs sa pans nila.

@@mitchiearts welcome po. parehong maganda. Kung may chance to get the tubes of Pure Pigment Set, the better. Sobrang dami mo na magagawa sa 15ml tubes na 24 colors plus 2- 7ml nila. Puwede mo naman ihandpour if you want. Sa 15ml na tube, mga 5 na halfpans na malalagyan mo.. 😉

Hello. There are lots of good watercolors that are cheap like Superior and O.win, but i would recommend student grade paints that provide pigment codes and that uses lightfast pigments. Good Sets with reasonable price are Sonnet and Marie's Masters. Sonnet 16 and 24 colors sets in full pans are less than 1000php. Maries masters 12 colors in 9ml tubes are also less than 1000php. White Nights artist grade paints are also one of the most affordable as the 12 colors full pan set is only 1500php.

@@huongdinh8719 depends on standards. But for me, it's not bad. A lot of of other brands are even worse than this Maries Masters.

@@huongdinh8719 i have tried it casually on cheaper papers but didn't have any problems. Maybe there's another factor to the experience of the artist you saw.. that, we're not sure.

Nope. The only very chalky paints I've tested so far are the Simbalion, Best Buy and DongA.

@@EarlsArt hmm. Tingin ko legit siya kasi mas maganda pa ung performance niya sa ibang brand na kilala. Actually, nakita ko ung Masters na name sa website nila, pero walang picture. I think, puwedeng discontinued na ito kaya wana nang makiya. If fake ito, bakit wala ni isang review? Usually kasi pag fake, mass production yan eh.
