Wow, thank you very much for ranking our Russian White Nights so high, it is incredibly pleasing! I have been using White Nights for 35 years, since I entered the arts school in Moscow. These paints are the staple in Russian art schools and universities, they are even more affordable here - the pan costs approx. $1,5, and the tube is about $3. I still use them and enjoy them, although I have tried some other brands. We have a new, very promising watercolor brand in Russia, called Pinax. Their first paints were produced in Korea, but now they are relocating to Moscow. They have a wonderful series called Extra, Pinax Extra. It uses only single pigments, and the very best of them. I think you should check them, they are just what you seem to like. Also I wanted to mention, that PG8 is my favorite green pigment too, and it's lightfastness is much better then people think. I have an old painting that was hanging on the wall for 25 years, without any glass or other protection. It is of purple irises, in Chinese style. The two pigments that I have used the most were PG8 and PV3, both from White Nights, both have bad reputation as not lightfast. The paper of this painting has turned completely cream, actually very beautiful. The colors have grayed a little, yes, but it's still very obvious that they are green and purple. So I have made a real lightfastness test, lol! Right now I am still using my 24 pans set that I have bought in 2002. Many paints have finished, but some are still left, and they are even better then the new ones! I love that they are adding new colors all the time, and mostly good colors. Can't wait to try their new PR209. They are also slowly replacing figutive colors with better ones. The problem is, some people love these old colors so much and still buy them a lot. I really hope you will eventually get all paints of White Nights you like. Maybe I can be of help? The world has become a crazy and dangerous place, unfortunately. Hope the war will be over soon. Wish you all the best, ❤❤❤ from Russia!

@AllanJayQuesada

hmmmm.. I dont like go advance talking but i feel like the pure pigment set has the edge because the pigment selection is really good. plus they can be cheaper because they're 15ml and whitenights are 10ml at an almost similar price.. Pans vs tubes is more matchy. hehhe

Thank you for the review! By the way, the monogram on the Nevskaya Palitra logo isn't 3K, it actually stands for ЗХК (Завод художественных красок - Zavod khudozhestvennykh krasok, which is translated as Artistic Paint Factory) - the old name of the company. They later added the 'Nevskaya Palitra' part to the name. And as far as I know, they've recently decided to change their international name to Neva Palette for easier pronunciation.

Let me tell you that your watercolor paints reviews are just the BEST ONES! Actually, your White Nights 36 full pans review made me finally decide to buy them so these are going to be the first artist grade watercololor I get :D and I'm happy for that. Just waiting for them to arrive! Thanks to your "savoir faire". Does 'Savoir Faire' mean sales talk? 😆 Hahaha. But yes, im confident about white nights. Im relieved to hear that Spain is now headed towards recovery and new normality. Spain is super close to my heart. I was in Spain last December for a conference. I made 2 separate watercolor journal-vlog for my Madrid and Barcelona stay, i hope yoj also check them out. Are you from wither these cities? Here in the Philippines, the government is already starting to tone down the quarantine rules, but we (in some select cities) arent yet allowed to go out of our cities.. as cases are still not getting flat. Yes, for as long as i can and for as long as there are people who believe in me, im gonna keep my channel up. Muchas Gracias!

I highly value your opinions and reviews of watercolors. Maybe more now then ever before as I’m about to purchase my first artist grade tube set... I have been leaning towards Daniel Smith until seeing this video. Budget is crucial for me right now, as likely may, and I’m looking for at least 24 set minimum. I’m currently using the Marie’s Professional 48 Pan Set(46half pans 2 full pans, all as one set) and love it but really want to upgrade to refilling from tubes. All that said would this be your best personal recommendation for me as my next set? Please keep in mind I will never hold you responsible for my purchasing decisions I just need some good solid advice on what to choose. I was aiming for single pigment as much as possible because i love mixing my colors almost every time I use any color I add something to it... thank you in advance for any input and for yet another valuable and informative video!! You always provide fantastic content for us in the art world!!!

Hi! Thank you for watching my videos and for the trust. 🙏🏻☺️🎨 I would still personally prefer DS over all others for reasons explainable and not. Hehe. White Nights is not a bad set at all but please take note that some colors in this set arent single pigment and some colors are not really rated high in lightfastness.. if it is available in your country, my best suggestion for a tube set is the Pure pigment set of mission gold. Please watch my review in this link.. it should answer all your questions. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5fChnaBqdWjmc0

Yay!!! Finally! Hahah but also noooooo-! I already placed an order for a pan set huhu 😂😭 I agree that some of the colors look more intense with the tube sets, especially the blues and a little on the greens. Could it also be the amount of water you used when swatching? Considering you don’t rewet the pan sets 😝 I’ve been waiting for this review for a while now hahaha! But definitely would watch and appreciate a separate comparison video too! Thank you ulit sir Allan! And for distinguishing the other sets too - I’ve been wondering what the differences were with St. Petersburg and Leningrad. I’m even more excited now for when my set arrives heheh 🖤 also, I have to say that your demo piece for this one is my favorite so far! The way the colors interact is soooo pleasant! Stay safe po sir and I hope to see more vids heheeeeeh paper naaaa XD PS, ano ba po yung brush na ginagamit mo for swatching and for the demo? The demo one looks like a collapsible travel brush heheh just curious po xD
@AllanJayQuesada
@AllanJayQuesada 4 жыл бұрын
Why huhu? Yes, i think it's because theyre from pans.. It's always an advantage to get more pigments instantly when using tubes. and that enters the advantage in pans which is , economy. less paints are waisted. Yes, I didnt rewet the pans, but i think, di naman need sa white nights kasi semi moist na siya. Salamat ulit and stay safe rin. :) PS: Tubes or Pans, walang talo sa White Nights. :)

Hello Allan, I really like the comparison at the end of your video, I noticed four things. 1) The paper is different? 2) I see that it looks like the smoothest, brightest washes seem to be the White Knights in pan form? 3) The Holbein comparison seems to have more mixed pigments in this selection, so perhaps the White Knights would be better? 4) I loved how the painting of the sunset yachts and mountains looked. Did you wet your paper first? I think your work is looking great because you paint often, it looks like it was done quickly, wet in wet, with larger strokes, and less of them? It has a certain quality, that I am having trouble defining. It looks like a controlled flow. It looks confident. (Like less strokes is more?) Thank you again for your thorough videos. I like to hear the dogs cars, and roosters in the background, as it makes me feel like I am on your island. Do you live in a country rural area or in the city? Hi Eliza.☺️🎨 1. The paper i used for all the reviews is arches 185g cold press. If there are differences, maybe some of them have yellowed a bit due to dust, exposure to various aspects.. but, yes, those are same papers. 2. Yes true. I think it's because i got more even paint from pans, rather than by doting them down from tubes to paper? 3. Yes, it's also true about the Holbein.. mixes wise, WN is better. I also prefer the color selection in WN. But some artists may have preferences on pigments selected, so it still depends on individual's choice. 4. For the sky part, i wet my paper first.. for the rest, i did layers. 1st layers was super light wash of the base color. Of course one can also start with just water but, i was trying to do it as quick as i could.. hehe. Yes, certainly wet on wet. I did layers, but at some parts, i didnt actually wait for 1st, 2nd layers to dry before doing the next. Controlled flow,. Yes i think. Confident? Maybe.. because i didint pressure myself with anything but the time, which is a important in my style.. i need to finish it quickly because of the wet on wet, and because it's almost dinner time.😆 . You're welcome, and thank you too! ☺️ . I am actually bothered by the outdoor sounds, because my viewers may get distracted.. i am actually thinking of getting a special microphone for the recording to avoid getting the outdoor noises, specially at times when my neighbor parties or sings rhe karaoke or when an airplane passes, because we live only 5kms away from the airport.. 😆 But, im glad it gave you an island feel. Im actually in the city (Las Piñas) which is part of Metro Manila. It's more on a residential city so there are roosters and dogs around, and tress with birds that sing for me., ☺️ ☺️ Again, thank you for your questions and if you have more, im happy to answer them all. ☺️

@@AllanJayQuesada Thanks for your reply. Wow I wouldn't believe that all the papers were the same. It is then a true comparison. So thank you for being constant with it. I recommend a Blue Yeti microphone, with or without the boom. I have a rode boom and a shock mount, but to be honest, just get the blue yeti, as I haven't really found the benefit of the boom arm. The blue yeti come in all colours, and if you speak into it, it is about a foot high, on a solid stand on a desk, it has one setting for cartoid, which means just capturing your talking only. It has other settings so you can have stereo or quad or interview modes. I use this microphone with a Dragon Professional Home 15 product so I can dictate my book that I am writing directly into Scrivener, so I say it, and it types into it directly making it 4 times faster than typing. Scrivener is a flexible writing programme which can be personalised with colour and your own headings and things can be moved easily and research can also go in there. I can eat, drink, cough and sneeze while dictating and the microphone doesn't pick this background noise up...so the microphone is very close to your mouth and it only takes from this one angle on the cartoid setting. Hope this is informative and helps the background noise situation, and if you need to do any typing, it is an easy programme to use, and you can select a more American sound to recognise your voice if dictating, as you are from the Phillipines, so it will adjust and learn from your voice pattern. If you get a few of these things, you can do podcasts, and have a real working studio office to function professionally. In kindred spirit Regards Eliza xx

The only color that I have an issue is that Shakzhs shocks di ko alam yung spelling na color. Yung earthy reddish orange na color. For the price, it is pretty affordable. Though i love the color of White Nights Green using PG8, it has lightfastness issues. This is one of the colors removed in the metal sets. Also, even in the 12 colors set They've included more cadmiums and a genuine Cerulean PG36 as better pigments, lightfastness wise. I might be able to make review or comparison in time. Oh.. i think i have the 35 colors metal tin at my Shopee store. Hehe. The 36 colors are soldout. I'm voting for the 35 set in metal for the fact that it's in metal case. It's more standard, smaller in size, lighter and more compact. Also, the color selection in the 35 tin set is better for color mixing. Colors are more on reds, yellows, blues. It only has 4 earth colors. At the 36 colors set, it has 7 earth colors which is just fine, depending in your preference. Although i love earth colors, basing on experience, i can see that the strength of White Nights is in Reds and Blues.😉🥰

I didn't know that pg8 is hookers green pigment, it is my favorite green. I did my own lightfast test on 49 (I think) colors and green did not change nor did the ruby or lemon. I wish they would have put indian yellow py 150 instead of one of the cadmium yellows and the rose or 81 in this set instead of one of the either carmine or ruby. Personally, I use indian yellow, rose pr81 and blue pb 15:6 as my primary mixing triad.

And all yeses to to PY150, my favorite yellow of all time. And next to it is The mixture for Quin Gold. And also PY129. Pr81 is new to me. That's interesting. How does it differ to pr122? Now i can see that they should've included a cooler red in this set. Hi aeri. Welcome to the watercolor world. 😊 The consumption of paints depend really on many factors. The quality/pigment load of the paints, the way you use them (how thickly you apply), percentage of the paper you cover and many others. Considering at an average consumption and application, and you use an artist grade paint such as this white nights, a 24 color 10ml tube set would last you years. I think you'd be able to create more than 600 9x6 paintings here. But realistically, some colors may run out earlier than the other. So youll replace some colors even before you consume the entire set. 😊

Hi Siddharth. Different brands have different namings for their colors regardless they're the same colors and pigments. And also at the same time, pigments have different versions and variants too, as for example, the PV19. (Please watch my video on the Top 40 pigments to show the PV19 variants). In my general observation, Quinacridone Red in most brands are PV19 and is a clear cool red. Quinacridone Coral looking Quin Red is the case in Winsor and Newton clearly as their Quin Red uses PR209 which is Quin Coral of DS., Quinacridone Coral PR209 is a warmer cool red that has pinkish undertones. I do not have Quinacridone violet Rose, so i cant really tell. What i have are some classic (90s made) w&n tube paints. My w&n quin red is pr209. My w&n permanent magenta is pv19 that is more of a violet red. The permanent rose is pr122 is the closest w&n color i have to daniel smith's quin rose pv19 and quin pink pv42.

@@golddi1 yes, i agree the earth tones are the weakness of White Nights. It was what i told Denise of In Liquid Color who is very particular to earth colors. Also, White nights started to release some new pans with new colors. They now have yellow ocher as single pigment, so i think they are trying to improve on their paints. I got all the quinacridones recently and they seem like exact dupes to daniel smith's. I think white nights are trying to match Daniel smiths versions but at a way lower price ;)

Can you help rate in the order of 1,2&3 these brands - Sennelier, holbein and white nights.
@arvindshukla8040

Hmmm... It pretty much depends on what you prefer if you don't want any granulation then Holbein is the way to go, however if you want an all rounder when I suggest with Sennilier. It is great at glazing and white is pretty vibrant for a inexpensive price and but I say that sennilier is the best of all of them! (Hope this is helpful)

Yes, i agree with Arvind.. all these 3 brands have their own strengths and to sum it up here is what i can say.. sennelier is best for glazing. White nights is best for its price. Holbein is good for its clean vibrant colors. Considering i have selected all the best pigments in each brand, this is my ranking: 1. Sennelier 2. Holbein 3. White Nights 😉🎨🙏🏻

Would you recommend the tubes or the pans?

I personally loving their pans as they're full pans. But if I'm gonna be using them in huge paintings, im gonna go for the tubes. 😊

Hahaha. Ganyan din ako dati kila Otto Kano, Lindsay, Denise Soden at Teoh Chie. Hahaha. Eh mahalaga sakin yung lightfastness and medyo naging OC na ako sa composition ng paints ko, kaya di ko namalayan, nakakabisado ko na ung iba. Very basic lang naman and konti lang ung medyo standard and laging ginagamit like: PBr7 - browns PB29 - Ultramarine PB27 - prussian PB28 - cobalt PB35/36 Cerulean PR101 - indian/english red, caput m. PG7 - pthalo green bs PG36 - pthalo green ys PG18 - Viridian P035 - Cadmim orange PY35 - Cadmium yellow PY42/43 - yellow ochre Pbk11 - perylene green Pv19 - magenta Pv23 - diox violet Py150 - azo yellow Pr122 - pinks Yan lang halos mga common
