Back in the sixties my father purchased a Garway travel trailer made by the Garwood company that made the boats. It was a nice size and had a front galley and it was a twin axel, and my dad even put electric brakes on it to assist when we took steep mountain roads on the downhill side. Thanks for the nice tour.

That sounds like something my dad would do if he had the means and a wife who would allow him to work on his hobbies rather than a honey-do list every weekend for fifty-nine years. Was your dad an engineer by chance? Do you have any pictures of the boat and rig? I'd love to see them.

Such an awesome video and a wonderful museum for American-made antique & classic boats of all shapes and sizes! Thank you for sharing! Many boats I haven't seen before as well! The Dodge boat, "Garbo" was super nice and that wall of outboards was amazing! Wonder how often the museum rotates their collections. Impressed to see the huge interest of people in Michigan to continue to share and maintain the passion and the history of their boat building industries. Being surrounded by these boat-building regions is the best. Michigan to the west, Clayton, NY to the east, and Gravenhurst (Muskoka) to the north :)

Chris Craft kit boat was a Barracuda. My dad and uncles built it. Started out with an old pre war rope start 18hp of unknown origins. It could get skiers up. Following year came a 35hp Big Twin. Boat was passed on to me. My buddies and I skied a lot behind the boat. Neat boat.

Yes the Dodge brothers made boats, the same Dodges that made the cars. We had one powered by a Lycoming engine. That one is an exceptional example.

Thanks for the video, have a classic I helped my father build in 1960. Only one left from 4-14 footers we built. Restored it for the 3rd time last summer. My mint 1969 Johnson 20 hp. was stolen and could use one of those 1956 Johnson 18 hp. motors to make it period correct. Currently has a 2011 25 hp. Yamaha which is a good motor but not an old Johnson!

That was cool. Love history and museums. The music you use in the quick fly through is in the narrowboat vlogs by Minimal List on KZbin. What an interesting coincidence. Did you get to see narrowboats in the UK?
@MattsRadShow
@MattsRadShow 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! me too. I'll have to check out that KZbin Channel, haven't seen that one yet. Narrow boats are cool! I saw a few of them when I lived in the UK. There's a cool spot in Falkirk called the Falkirk Wheel! Super cool. The song I used in that part is called Morning Mandolin by Chris Haugen. It has Mandolin in it and to me that just has a good nautical Feel. It's free to download on youtube audio if you like. There's only so much music that has a nautical feel on youtube's audio library so not surprised it's being used for boat stuff. Lol.

Nice video, I don't consider myself a "boat nerd". I would consider a boat enthusiast to be someone who knows the "underside" of a boat, which is referred to as the hull. IMO, a boat nerd would be the person who knows what forest the timber was harvested from and the lot number including the date and time of felling as well as the weather conditions at the precise time of timber harvesting specific lots. I suppose it's subjective to a point, but the "underside" of a boat will always be correctly referred to as the "hull". Thanks for the video, I wasn't aware of this particular museum.

Im not an old boat guy but Im sure an old outboard guy,LOL! Love those old 1956-58 Johnsons curious if they are all restored or N.O.Stock.In reference to what you would call an ornament on a boat front I would think bow ornament would be correct. I have three restored 1950S 18HP motors I would think of possibly donating at some point to this museum.Thanks for posting!

As beautiful as the Gar Wood and Chris Craft boats are, the Italian made Riva takes the prize for the most carefully detailed, best equipped, and I feel, finest built of the wooden speed boats. Ferruccio Lamborghini contracted with Riva to install 2 of his 350 hp V12 engines in his Riva. A stunning craft for sure that would leave all other speedboats of its time far back in his wake!

Very nice! I don’t think God has ever allowed an ugly boat to be built. I’ve never seen a boat of any type or size that I didn’t love. When I was 17 years old I had 5 boats and no car. If I still had all the boats I had in the 80’s I’d be a super wealthy guy but I always wanted to move on to the next experience and I’d lose my butt on some trade. Lol I don’t regret any of it though. I’ve been fortunate enough to have the chance to experience many different types of boats in my life. The craftsmanship and attention to detail that was put into almost everything built between 1925 to about 1975 was simply amazing. America has really lost something special by losing their ability to create and manufacture these days. Very sad.

We really like your videos, especially about the old boats-- but what we absolutely hate is the unneeded, and very annoying, and played much too loudly whenever you aren't talking music. My wife controls the sound on our TV, and her thumb is now sprained from turning the volume up and down hundreds of times, as you talk, and then revert to just some scenes and that horrible din. I'd rather listen to you cough up a hairball, or just mumble some useless information on the boats than hear the stupid music. So I implore you--- knock that crap off please.
So Cute 🥰 who is better?
