Every "rare Pokemon" has a lower chance to be found, but with the catch combo of 31+ it raises those odds and shiny odds btw. So you had a lucky find with that.

You have to pay attention to your partner pokemon wagging its tail, picking up those items is pretty much the only way to get them. You can farm this way on the new cycling road right before fuchsia city.

go to pokemon road. A lot of berries spawn and you can just move into another area and come back

HyperLibrarian I usually go to Pokemon Road and check the bushes, and go to Cerulean Cave to get some as well. Another tip is go to the Game Corner in Celadon and there is like 5 hidden spots there that drops items, you could also get a Golden Bottle Cap there. Just make sure you save before getting inside and just reset the game when you didn’t get any bottle caps. It also respawns back everyday.

From Personal observation, I'd say that shinies of other species are affected by catch combos. I had a shiny Bulbasaur and a shiny Pidgey spawn at the exact same time on a 140 Bulbasaur combo. I also had a shiny Geodude on an 11 Charmander combo.

I noticed something strange with spawns in cerulean cave. I was xp farming chanceys and then put all low lvl pokemon in my party to evolve them. With all low levels in the party, instead of rhydons and snorlax's I started getting geodudes everywhere. As soon as I caught a Chauncey and my pokemon leveled up, the rhydons and snorlax's started spawning again. idk if that info is useful at all.

LGP has a bunch of chansey in the viridian cave where you get mewtwo . In fact, if you combo it, sync throw and catch excellent throw it and get a size bones, ull get 2400 exp point and it will make you lvl your pokemon to lvl 100 fast.

Kangaskhan is a rare spawn in Rock Tunnel, Scyther on Route 15 in Pikachu version. It's probably Pinser on Eevee.

I just got Hitmonlee from the dojo next to the gym in the city that was overrun by team rocket grunts (I don't remember the name, maybe it's Saffron city). Also, I didn't know that Chansey was rare in this game. I just saw her walking in the grass while looking for a Vulpix so I caught her. It was no wonder she didn't want to stay in the ball. Kind've disappointed that we don't get Blissey or Happiny though, but at least they actually added Chansey

You can farm some of the fossils too, so you could do them in batches.
