YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER!!!!! Estimated 3000 dollars to fix this at a shop. I’m 17, broke, and in love with cars and this is the biggest project I’ve done so far. Hoping to become a diesel mechanic when I’m older, and this is just the start of many big projects. You’ve given me the insight on how to get myself started in the field and I’m so very thankful for that. I’ve just completed getting the axels out and I’ve got a long way to go but this is a perfect video for people in my shoes with little experience. You really are a great help and you’ve given me an opportunity to become even smarter and learn a lot more. I cannot thank you enough.

Thank You , Thank You , Thank You , Your video gave me a plan , an order in which to do the repairs and the confidence to tackle this massive job on my own. The converter was stripped , and a rebuilt unit fixed the problem. For someone like me this video was "PRICELESS". Again Thank You

Nice job on the video. I've done several of these at home just the way you do it. I don't think you left anything out, I think you covered all the steps. (I'm afraid I use a lot more bad language than you do however.) Good advice on replacing the torque converter.

You are so lucky that you don't have the 3.0 24 Valve Duratec engine like my Taurus has because if you did this job would be A LOT harder. They have the water pump in the back of the engine which forces you to remove about a dozen water hoses to gain access to the top bell housing bolts and the exhaust has to be unhooked from 2 different places.

WHOA!!!! Someone from church gifted me a 2003 Ford Taurus a couple of weeks ago. I've pumped in around $1200 getting brand new tires, battery, inner and outer tie rods, and tags and title. And now the transmission is acting up (new it was an issue but was hoping it would hold out for at least one year). I searched some videos to see how it's done, thinking auto shops charge exorbitant prices for stuff that isn't THAT hard but MAN do I now respect why they charge so much. Sheesh!

Thanks for the video its been a godsend! I'm in the middle of this job, the transmission is actually out of the car right now. The only difference between how we did it is that I had to cut my exhaust with bolt cutters, (didn't have a grinder and the bolts were fubar), and I didn't remove the entire knuckle assembly, I couldn't get the pinch bolts on the strut out, so I left all of that attached by that bolt alone, and I had enough room to get it out. However, I've now replaced the torque converter and am in the process of re-installing everything... but I dont have a transmission jack. I have a floor jack, but I'm having an awful time getting it back up in the car. It doesn't balance very well. Do you have any recommendations????? Thank you

Do I have to pull transmission completely out to replace the freeze plugs?

Great video! Only good one I could find. Do you have anything on how you setup the engine support beam on the Taurus? I’m about to drop the subframe on my 2002 taurus and am not really sure where to bolt the support chains on the engine. Thanks again for the great video!!

Not really. I just placed the chains where it would work best holding up the engine. The pasangers side its a bit hard to do because there not many good bolts locations. You just need to secure the support good enough to keep the motor from moving down much.

it looks like you have the engine support chains just on a long bolt thats into the heads on each side? is that right?

@fixingwithpassion - Is there a way to remove the side cover of the transmission while still on the car? I just want to replace some solenoids.
