When I go to the liquor store to pick up a bottle of whiskey, I often almost buy the (regular) Corsair Triple Smoke, which I've never tasted and have heard so many great things about. But I hate hate hate hate the packaging. I know it's irrational to not buy (or buy) a whiskey based on what the bottle looks like, but since there are always multiple whiskies I'm trying to pick among, that awful Reservoir Dogs label has so far pushed me in other directions. I should just ignore it. I keep my bottles in a closed cabinet, anyway, so I wouldn't even have to look at it in between pours :)

I've only tried one English whiskey, the Britannia release from the VA Distillery Co. It was an 8 year old cask strength single malt that had some citrus notes to start, but it also had a bit of an earthy finish. Quite tasty.

I thought 750ml is from the US Fifth of a gallon, which is what the us bottle size used to be. A fifth of a gallon is @ 757ml, I guess they round to the closest 50 ml. EU standard liquor bottle is 700 ml, US liquor bottle is 750 ml.

750ml is a standard European wine bottle, so why they chose 700ml for spirits is anybody's guess. European bottle sizes tend to translate to fractions of a liter (200ml=1/5, 250ml=1/4, 330ml=1/3, 500ml=1/2, 660ml=2/3, 750ml=3/4), so 700ml seems out of place.

If you're getting an eggy note out of French toast, you're doing it wrong. Get yourself the thickest cut of bread you can get, a huge French loaf is perfect, cut it to a good inch plus thick and follow the Alton Brown method add your own spices to taste. Perfection!

So not to nerd out on molasses...but when Daniel and rex give that note I often feel like they don't agree on what the note is. I think it is because Daniel is thinking of a baking molasses and that is often a more bitter flavour while rex may be thinking of a Fancy ( that's just what it is called) table molasses. There is a big difference

I had a bottle of Glenfiddich that was aged in IPA barrels. When the cork came out it was so fruity and packed with flavor that night had a glass or two. I then corked it again and put it back in its box. Three weeks later I reopened it and it had lost all of its fruity notes and was more of a harsh drink. What happened is that normal or was I just having an off-flavor day?
